Hidden Haven is a very nice property and I will definitely put it on my short list for future stays at Lake Anna.
I'm taking a few minutes to provide feedback to potential renters and the property managers in the hope that everyone has the best experience possible.
I rented Hidden Haven for a brief weekend stay with family for a wedding in Culpepper, VA. It was a comfortable stay for us. There were four of us, and it was a good set-up for us. If you have a larger group you might want a larger space.
Things we liked... and there were many:
Very nice property with direct access to the water from a private dock. OK, we were there on a rainy October weekend, so we didn't get to enjoy that, but it looks like it would be great for warmer weather. There are a LOT of steps down to the dock, so keep that in mind if you have folks in your party who are mobility impaired. This is no secret as the property photos clearly show this.
The house and the garage annex were very clean upon our arrival. The bedrooms were VERY comfortable. I stayed in the room with with the day bed, and it was very nice. It lacks a bit in privacy as there is a pass-thru to the kitchen (with shutters), so time your clothing changes appropriately ;-) Also, don't plan to sleep in late there as there are no shades in that room. On the plus side you have a very nice view toward the lake, and tons of kids toys if you need them!
Another positive on the property... the guest instructions. The guest instructions were the appropriate guidelines to respect your neighbours with noise, etc. What was not there was the request that you complete a full cleaning crew job before you check out. I completely understand that you should never leave a rental property a mess for someone to turn around in 2 hours for the next guests.
Things that could use a bit of attention... nothing huge, but shared as constructive input.
Service fees, etc... OK, I understand that everyone needs to cover their expenses and there's a lot of ground to be made up after COVID, but WOW. The cost that you see when you browse properties VS what you see at the checkout page are completely different... like almost double. This issue is not specific to Hidden Haven, but I'm providing my feedback that I'm more likely to stay in a hotel if the add-on fees for vacation rentals continue to sky rocket the way they have.
Loft... What loft
No access to loft.... So, the first night we arrived we could not access the garage/loft bedroom because the batteries were dying in the combo lock for that door. We arrived at about 3am and I was not going to ruin someone's night by demanding immediate service. I sent a note requesting service the next morning. I got a txt letting me know that someone would be there at 10 the next morning. He quickly fixed the issue with the lock, and we then had access to that part of the rental. I didn't request compensation for the incomplete access, but I'd be open to that if the property owner would like to adjust for that. Once we got access to the loft we found it to be a great space. Minor suggestion... a small table would be good to get the TV and DVD player off the floor.
Main house...
Glasses, what glasses...
After a long drive to the property we wanted to have a glass of wine before going to sleep. After searching a bit, we found 2 plastic wine "glasses" that we could use. OK, I'm trying to not be a "snob" but I've rented a ton of properties, and I have never found a property in this price range that did not provide a full set of real glass wear for renters. I understand that guests can be jerks and break stuff, but that really should not an excuse to not provide basic housewares.
Nice fireplace... would be nice if we could use it.

Very comfortable and cozy. Picturesque and well decorated.
The indoor fireplace did not work. There were not enough trash bags for the group.
The description should indicated that one of the rooms are in a detached garage. (Therefore, when traveling with a group it was a hiccup to decide who gets to stay in the “main house” and who has to walk outside in 31 degrees weather to go to bed at night). A clear description could have saved the friction.
Also, one of rooms has an open “window to the kitchen” and a sliding door. Not ideal for couples - a better description should have been included.
