Lovely decor both in the room and bar.
Lovely dinner and breakfast.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
We stayed in room 5 and it appeared to be above the kitchen so was a little noisy. The music was turned off at ten and was very quiet overnight but you could hear the staff starting again at 7.30am.

The staff, room and food were all exceptional making for one of the best retreats I've ever had.
Nothing, everything was absolutely great.

We were given a warm welcome. There was ample parking in a car park to the side of the building. Room no. 1 was gorgeous - tastefully decorated with original stone walls. It was spotlessly clean and had an excellent hospitality tray (coffee, selection of teabags, bottles of still and sparkling Harrogate spa water, Border biscuits), a very comfortable bed and lovely bathroom. There was a full-sized wardrobe which contained a hairdryer.
There was a decent-sized smart TV on the wall.
The pub downstairs had a good selection of reasonably priced beers and spirits. The atmosphere in the pub was lovely, with a cosy wood burning stove. We enjoyed a drink in there but then I was told it was okay to take our drinks up to the room so we didn't have to miss a TV programme we wanted to watch - very much appreciated.
We didn't eat dinner there as we already had plans but the menu had plenty of choice and prices were reasonable. We had breakfast there and it was fabulous! My husband had the full English, I had the veggie version. It was cooked to order so was fresh and piping hot, and made with quality ingredients.
We are househunting around the area so we will definitely be using the Barley Mow as a base and visiting again very soon. It was the ideal place to unwind and de-stress within a beautiful village setting. Many thanks!
I honestly can't fault anything. We were only staying for one night but a fridge for fresh milk would have been useful if we'd been there for longer.

The staff were exceptional. I was well looked after and felt very comfortable as an older woman travelling alone. Thank you 😊
Slightly noisy from the bar below, but that quietened down at 10pm so no cause for complaint.

A very pleasant stay. A comfortable room with tea and coffee facilities, a desk, wardrobe, a decent bed and best of all a bath in the bathroom perfect for after a day's walking.
Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient throughout. The quality of food in the evening and at breakfast was very good and again the service was unfussy but very professional.
I would certainly stay here again.
I was fortunate to sneak a parking space on arrival and didn't move my car thereafter. I suspect parking can be a challenge.
I know it's the post Covid way to not service rooms and I hadn't asked to find out if mine would be. I don't want fresh towels and I don't even really need the bed made though it's appreciated when it is. But i would like my dirty mugs and spoons taken away, my bin emptying and biscuits and water replenished.

The staff were very helpful, polite and attentive. The room was ready before the designated check in time and the room was very clean and well equipped. Breakfast was fantastic and a good bar selection. In a great location for country walking.
Relatively expensive

Breakfast was excellent
Promotes itself as dog friendly. Unfortunately our evening meal ruined by inconsiderate dog owners in the restaurant. Had to step over dogs in the walkways when carrying our drinks and we didn't enjoy our evening meal because a dog was allowed to bark non stop with a high pitched noise. Would be better if dogs only allowed in the small room we had breakfast in. .
In the afternoon we had a drink outside and a Customer tripped over a dog just left to lay in the way of everybody.

There could have been more choice in the buffet for continental options and bread but the cooked breakfasts from the menu were excellent.

This pretty little pub found in a rural location was perfect for a cozy getaway. You could tell straight away that the business was looked after and those in it had great pride in doing what they do. It was a lovely stay.
The parking was not ideal. Unfortunately parking space is a premium in a small village, as is space, so only 1 or 2 parking spaces was available directly outside.
