Excellent location and authentic hotel.

I loved the hotel, it was very comfortable and the bathroom was really large. Good location
We had to move off early in the morning(before the breakfast timing) but at check in, they said they will prepare for us breakfast boxes to take with us. But in the morning at checkout, there was no breakfast box prepared, so we just left without having any breakfast even though we paid for it

A very authentic place, located right in the heart of the Islamic district. The beauty of the hotel itself and the surrounding streets already makes the place worth visiting. But that’s not all.
You can see true masterpieces being created by talented craftsmen right in the lobby. The artworks there were the best souvenirs I saw in Cairo. Rooms are pretty comfortable and have everything needed for a comfortable living.
The sweetest staff I have ever met. They treated me like family and helped me as much as they could (even in the situation, they were not obliged to). They brightened up evenings, gently talking with me even though my Arabic wasn’t that amazing😅.
The position of the hotel is also a thing worth mentioning. The Moez street, which is 50 meters far from the hotel can bring you through the whole Medieval Cairo, running from the Bab an-Nasr to the Citadel. This is the experience you’ll never get when living in Downtown. I’ve spent the whole week wandering through the narrow streets of the district and will definitely do it more in the future.

Location is great - fun staying in the alleys of a historic area
Good to support a restoration and artisan project
Our room was a bit unloved and didn’t feel ‘boutique’
No vegan breakfast

J’ai aimé Son emplacement, son architecture, la gentillesse du personnel
Le petit déjeuner pourrait être plus copieux. Le roof top aurait pu être en service.

Good breakfast, cooked on the spot. Extremely comfortable, spacious and quiet room. The staff is helpful and available. This is likely the best hotel in the area. I would definitely come back.

La ubicacion buena , la disponibilidad de tiempo para desayunar hasta las 12 .la habitacion muy limpia y la cama comoda
El internet no funcionaba bien tercer piso sin escaleras , calidad precio muy alto para El Cairo

We had a fantastic stay at Gamaleya Boutique Hotel. The location is perfect for seeing important sites and being near the big shopping bazaar. The staff is incredibly friendly, helpful and professional. We highly recommend this place.

Nicely decorated, clean room, recently constructed
Breakfast could be improved, adding fruit etc or a bit of variety

The staff was absolutely amazing, specially Mohamad who did everything to make us feel welcome and safe. He is amazing! The terrace upstairs are very beautiful even though a bit of a decoration such as plants could be added. The bedrooms are cozy and the building is historical and very interesting.
The hotel is positioned in a very narrow street and not many taxis or ubers are willing to go into the neighbourhood. We were there in the period of Eid so it was very crowded and noisy and we did not feel safe all the time walking in the area. It was though close to some beautiful locations. I would recommend women to wear a hijab/scarf in this neighbourhood. Our window was to the street so there was no sleeping, unless with earplugs and very strong will!

Gamaleya was more than a hotel, it is a unique place to stay. You are welcomed by entering through a workshop where masters of traditional arts and craft are teaching apprentices to keep traditions alive. The building itself was once a soap factory, and right in the centre of ancient Islamic centre, you really feel like you are in the heart of Cairo. The surrounding sights are spectacular. The staff are absolutely amazing, and make you feel so welcome. They spend time getting to know you, and having tea and breakfast together. They will give you recommendations and make breakfast when suits you.
It is worth noting that you cannot reach the hotel by Uber as it is on a market road. You will need to go to Bab Al-Futuh and walk from there (5min). However, this is actually nice as it means the hotel is right in the hustle and bustle of the market, which is a very fun experience, and you can enjoy seeing the sights on your walk to the hotel.

We loved the location in Islamic Cairo. Lots of vibrant streets and markets with authentic people going about their day (no one hassling tourists). The hotel itself is charming and comfortable, our room was spacious and beautifully designed, and we loved learning about the traditional handmade Islamic art. We bought a textile and beautiful silver necklace (at very reasonable prices) and those are precious memories of the people we met when we stayed. Everyone was so kind, the owner even showed us parts of the neighborhood we hadn't discovered yet. I absolutely would come back and spend more time here and in this neighborhood. Thank you so much!!

The location is excellent if you prefer to be in the historic market district. Miriam and Mohammed went over and above to make our stay special. All staff were helpful. Rooms were comfortable. Reasonably priced. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it highly. Five stars.
Nothing.

Real experience in the middle of the 'Islamic quarter' of Cairo. The hotel is really pretty, just around the corner of the Khan-al-Khalili souk but very quiet and comfortable. The staff is exceptionally nice and they cooked an endless breakfast in the morning, as if you were in a house kitchen. The groundfloor hosts traditional craft-making stations (copper-carving, carpet-making, etc) that you can visit to understand the different technics (the hotel staff sometimes work as qualified artisans in the workshop). Great service.
Due to the traditional set-up of the building, my room did not have a window and was pretty small. But all in all, I did not really care.
4.3
This B&B is located just In the heart of old city, few steps away from the most amazing monuments of the Islamic Cairo. Inside the B&B you can also find a school of traditional handcraft arts. The staff was very friendly and gave us generous breakfast every morning
Might sound a bit noisy... as one could expect being in the very center of an animated neighbourhood
4.3
Unique boutique hotel with gallery and workshops located in the heart of Old Cairo, within walking distance to the ancient Al Hakim mosque.
The stairs (when we had the room at the 3rd floor), but the verandah and its fresh air were worth it.
4.3
The Gamaleya is such a unique place - a little haven away from the noise and chaos of the main streets outside. You are right in the heart of Cairo! The staff are absolutely incredible - so friendly and attentive, and my family felt very comfortable and well looked after.
The single rooms are small and without a window they can get quite warm, but they are cosy and comfortable and the shared kitchen / dining area is so sociable and relaxed. We really enjoyed our stay and are sad we could only stay 1 night - I will stay here again for sure when I come to visit Cairo again!
No hot water in the shared bathroom, and quite noisy in the building - but you are in the centre of a nightlife area - bring earplugs and you'll be fine!
4.3
Authentic hotel in the old town. Friendly, kind people. Great breakfast. They also have a number of workshops where traditional art and craft skills are revitalised.
4.3
An authentic experience, with the most amazingly helpful and friendly staff and owner who went the extra mile to make sure we felt welcomed and were well looked after. It is such a unique location for tourists to be able stay there, so convenient to be able to explore Old Cairo. We loved the community upliftment aspect and watching the artisans and apprentices keeping the Islamic art alive. On our first evening, Muhammad and Mariam were so helpful, and took us on a walk about showing us where to eat and shop. Muhammad’s cooking as also excellent, and he spoiled us with fantastic Egyptian meals, and an ever-ready smile. The owner, Dr Ebrahim Kassissia, has developed a unique product/experience with the Gamaleya Boutique Hotel which we are sure will be nurtured and enjoyed by many future travellers to Cairo. Shukran to all connected to the Gamaleya Boutique Hotel for an experience of a lifetime - Firdaus and Mish-al, Cape Town South Africa.
Nothing to dislike.

The hotel is next to basar! The room was gorgeous and clean. The Egyptian taste building and rooms.
You have better to ask transfer service from this hotel. My taxi driver lost way arriving this hotel. It's not fault of this hotel. My driver told me there was a same name street in cairo. It's noisy in night but It's good experience of a different culture!

very noisy and it could be cleaner

A beautfully crafted hotel with great attention to detail in the building, very pleasant and helpful staff, excellent location for a stay in Islamic Cairo.
The single rooms are very small.

We thought that Gamaleya was fantastic. Right in the heart of Cairo. Wonderful staff and great accommodation. Cannot be faulted. The islamic quarter is one of the more peaceful areas of Cairo.
Nothing. A genuine place to be.

We loved the Gamaleya Boutique Hotel! The staff were so lovely. Yohana the manager went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed, and found us a great tour guide to show us around some of the wonderful sites of Old Cairo. Ahmed made our breakfast every morning and just spoiled us! He made a simple soup as for part of our breakfast each morning made of chickpeas, chili and cumin that was the most warming, hearty and delicious soup.
Gamaleya is a very interesting and unique hotel experience, and it is a great venue for promoting traditional Cairo craftsmanship. The location of this hotel is brilliant: walk 1/2 block to the right and you find yourself on a 1000 yr old street that is delightful to walk in either direction. Left to the 10th C. city gates and wall and right to the 13th C. Qu aloun Mosque, El Khalili market etc.and the the best nighttime street life of Cairo.
I liked everything: The single rooms are small, cosy and comfortable and have very nice modern bathrooms. Some are windowless and others have a courtyard window. Either way, they are great for a single traveller. The double rooms were luxuriously appointed and pretty.
4.3
Booking asked me about the expectations? Oh, they are much more than exceeded. The hospitality of the Gamaleya team is great. I still remember the story of the house and was so inspired with the artworks that are performed in the craft part.
I am very grateful for the help with the room choice and all the amenities.
Also, the breakfasts were so good
4.3
Amazing hotel in an amazing, family friendly and vibrant location. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We look forward to coming back!

The location of the property was perfect. it's in the middle of Cairo's old town, and is a short and interesting walk to Khan el Khalili. The property itself is pretty special, it is a restored old building which has many parts to explore. It does feel like a mini maze sometimes. Its ground floor also serves as an art workshop and gallery, as the owner of the property is trying to sustain the traditional Islamic arts. The room was comfortable, with heating. And the bathroom is beautiful and the best that we've had in our stay in Egypt.
The staff at this hotel are the loveliest people that you will meet. They were very accommodating when we needed to check in early, and also changed our room for us when the first room's heating wasn't working. Not a lot of hotels will do these things for you, and we are very very grateful. And their staff Mohamed was always very adamant that we have a full breakfast before going out, and the food was very good!
