liked everything very lovely place and staff and food was amazing
nothing to dislike

Friendliness of all the staff and the locals. Reasonable priced food and drink plus got 10% discount on food and drink for being a hotel guest. Everywhere was kept spotless . The food was very good, well cooked and plenty. The rooms were a good size clean with plenty extras. The only thing I would improve is to have two brighter lamps by the bed side table. Beside that perfect

The bed was comfortable.
No evening meal available on a Sunday. No breakfast before 8am (then only continental) or 9am for cooked. No hot water in the morning before 7:40 am departure.

Food was good
We were in room 2. Main and side doors constantly banging. Open from 7am til nearly midnight
We complained but were told that could not move us. Our son had to stay with relatives second night.
Windows old single glazed so you could hear busy traffic, people talking and cold draught. We taped the banging every few minutes as people arrived and left this busy pub. Staff admitted to complaints from past guests about the banging. Worst room we have ever stayed in.

The room was spacious, the bed very comfortable, delicious breakfast and very nice staff.
Could do with a coat hanger stand and some towel hooks/ holders in a bathroom.

Fantastic hotel, comfy beds, clean and spacious rooms. Breakfast was just fantastic- arguably the best breakfast we've had in a long while. The pub food was also brilliant (we had pizzas).
The staff were very friendly, always smiling, and particularly helpful when we needed a travel cot and they didn't have one so the staff went out and bought one for us. So helpful. We really appreciated that so thank you! Would 100% recommend.
Nothing, everything was fab.

Location is great and the breakfast was lovely

Breakfast was great as was the food in the evening in the pub. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Room size was brilliant, and the room had everything you’d need.
The walls were thin and so you did hear the road and pub noise.
4.0
Cleanliness of room and friendliness of staff. Meals were good.
Only one chair in room . No cereals available for breakfast.

The bedroom, bathroom were very clean, excellent food. I loved the old-type wardrobes and in the dining room lovely oldy artifacts. Greg and his staff were superb nothing was any trouble.
LEAVING. My only moan... Perhaps an earlier breakfast would have been a bonus. 0900 was too late by the time we had finished the morning was over. However, I would certainly stay again.

Stuart and staff were efficient, professional and very helpful. Good size room, good shower, excellent value and a great evening meal!
Needed a little dusting above the pelmet area and the internet was shocking!
Breakfast starts at 9.0am?? That’s more like brunch for working people.

accommodating staff, nice clean room and bathroom
really noisy front door, room a bit too cold, curtains let too much light in, hot breakfast needs to be earlier to accommodate customers who need to be in work/places by 9am

OK to go to if you don't have any food allergies and don't mind being on a main road
Haven't got much idea about gluten free food so had to travel in to Durham to eat which I didn't really want to do but felt i had no choice as manager said there may be cross contamination if its in the air 🤣 as its a busy kitchen he also brought me a coffee at breakfast with a biscuit on the side containing gluten
I did have breakfast but all I could have was beans tomato mushrooms egg bacon no toast cereal fruit or juice and was only 1 slice of bacon 😅 so left hungry but my husband had the huge breakfast and was stuffed which has gluten in

Room was clean and tidy.
Staff were excellent, very nice, very friendly and very helpful.
Food was brilliant, well done to all the chefs and staff.
Bus stop almost outside the door to Newcastle or Durham should you wanted to use it.
We would stay at the Red Lion again.
We had a room above the main door which had a faulty door closer and it was banging continuously during main opening hours. This needs fixing.
The upper windows are not double glassed and we found the road very noisy during peak hours.
A bath mat would be a good safety feature.

This is the best accommodation we have found in all of Durham So easy to find just off the main road into the city We stayed 2 nights Bed Breakfast and evening meal The food was fantastic for the price and what was provided was of a 5 star standard and plenty of it The room was very clean with everything provided for our stay ie spar water tea coffee biscuits toiletries etc We had our own key to let ourselves into the building as we planned to stay out late The staff are so professional friendly and helpful and honestly cannot do enough for you We felt so relaxed after a comfortable nights sleep it's such a traditional country pub we loved the character inside and out and will definitely be staying there again in the future
Nothing it's fabulous
