The moment we met our hosts, Blake and Patty we knew we would have a wonderful stay at their lovely home. From the welcome tray with goodies and wine to the very well stocked kitchen, including a new roasting pan and thermometer ( for the Thanksgiving turkey) we felt right at home. Our hosts have gone above and beyond to give their guests everything they need, everything so well curated, from the ample firewood( for the amazing stone fireplace and the fire pit outside to the sound machines in each bedroom, ample towels; built in shower staples, and extras stocked in the fridge. Great hiking nearby and then a great afternoon at a brew pub, distillery on a beautiful farm. The house is impeccably clean and comfortable. Our family of many ages had a wonderful time and plan on coming back for another holiday get together!

Our stay at the barnacle house was a 10/10. There are three different areas that define a VRBO experience and all 3 were really excellent: the host, the facilities, and the activities in the area.
The host was warm, welcoming, accessible, and forgiving of our silly mistakes. They also went out of their way to add to the home for our new years stay which was a very sweet touch. They greeted us with a bottle of wine at check in, and briefly checked in every morning to see how we were.
The facilities were bigger than anticipated, completely clean, and extremely well stocked. The home was also very welcoming to our young children which made the stay even more enjoyable and meant we brought much less than in other circumstances. Lots of toys for kids, spices, and all kitchen appliances you could need.
Nearby, we had great experiences. Within 2 miles are stunning lookout points (Old Stone Church), parks (Sam’s point is amazing, as was Bear Hill), and lakes. A bit further was the Kartrite indoor water park which was fun for the adults and kids alike (45 minutes). 20 minutes away is the Angry Orchard Brewery and Tour which was another highlight. We would love to be able to return for another stay in the future.

The Barnacle was a perfect spot for my family and my friend’s family (4 adults, 4 kids under 5 years old).
The house is big and old and beautiful, in fantastic condition and totally functional (kitchen and bathrooms updated and with new appliances). There is a ton of stuff for kids in the house, with a room full of games and toys, as well as an incredible library of books for a rainy day (especially on art).
The yard is enormous and flat and there is a hot tub for night time fun.
If you need to work remotely, there is good cell reception and strong internet at the house, as well as many desks and tables (and comfortable chairs) from which to work.
Finally, the location - I grew up 30 mins away and never heard of Cragsmoor. But it’s a mountaintop hamlet with amazing views and a ton of charm. Be sure to walk over to the Stone Church, the library or the historical society. You can also drive a short trip to Sam’s Point, Minnewaska preserve, Pine Bush for groceries and wine and restaurants, or New Paltz (40 mins away).
All in all, a great spot, and the owners are very thoughtful about making sure folks are comfortable in the house and also gave some great recommendations for local day trip activities.

Family Gathering
Our stay at Barnacle was beyond our expectations. Blake & Patty welcomed our family after several travel delays on our part with open arms. Every possible amenity and detail was considered. From their warm welcome to answering questions at any time to make our stay complete. In addition they shared the specifics regarding new hiking/parking reservations at the nearby Sam's Point so we could enjoy the breathtaking hike to Ice Cave Mountain hassle free. Our week at the Barnacle was fantastic and we will definitely return as it truly felt like our home away from home.

Perfect for a family gathering!
We can’t say enough about this wonderful property. We stayed with extended family for our son’s college graduation and it’s hard to imagine a better spot. Absolutely gorgeous location and home. Perfectly maintained and equipped with everything you might need and then some - the hosts have thought of absolutely everything. There are bikes and helmets, outdoor and indoor games, books, a hot tub, an incredible back yard, a fire pit and the most well-stocked kitchen (and rest of the house!) we’ve ever seen in a rental property. One favorite thing was there are many wonderful seating areas throughout the house and the property, including a bunch of cozy window nooks and an amazing porch for morning coffee or afternoon tea or cocktails. And the scenery is just spectacular, including amazing walks/hiking trails with great views. We’d stay here again without hesitation. It was hard to leave!!! Thanks so much to Blake and Patty for their warm hospitality and for sharing their amazing home.

Christmas at the Barnacle
After spending two years apart due to the Pandemic, our family was looking for a large home to gather to celebrate Christmas 2021. We couldn’t have found a better place than the Barnacle! If you were to picture the most perfect holiday home, this would be it! Our Christmas celebration had snow, a roaring fire in the fireplace, a beautiful Christmas tree, a large cozy dining room, and lots of food and laughter. It was a magical time that was reminiscent of a Hallmark Christmas movie! We will always remember our Christmas at the Barnacle.
Blake and Patty were incredible hosts. They communicated well and were extremely attentive to our needs. When we arrived they met us with a huge gift basket of snacks, the fridge was stocked with essentials (including egg nog), and every bathroom had soap, shampoo, toilet paper, floss, etc. Everywhere we looked we found their thoughtful touch. The kitchen had everything – all the pots and pans you could ask for and more (waffle maker, coffee machine, toaster). They even bought a Christmas tree right before we arrived and hung stocking holders on the mantle.
The setting was idyllic, with lots of space around the property. We hiked on a trail in the woods nearby to a scenic overlook. On Christmas Day, we did a day trip to Awosting Falls at Minnewaska State Park Preserve. The waterfall was impressive! There was snow on the trees and icicles clinging to the rocks along the way making the hike all the more memorable. The little town has all the essentials you could need and is a short drive from the home.
The Barnacle itself was amazing. The living room was warm and inviting. It was great to sit around the fire and read our favorite Christmas Eve stories. The dining room was quite large and spacious with room for all of us to sit together and share our holiday meals. Each bedroom was elegant, with great mattresses, nice bedding, and personal white noise machines (they literally thought of everything). The den had a large collection of puzzles, games, and books. The hot tub was huge and a nice place to relax in the evening. We can't wait to return. If you have a chance to book the Barnacle, do it. You won’t be disappointed!

Cragsmore Big House, lots of character
Great house for large family gathering. We were there for our daughters wedding at the Stone Church. Very close by. Enjoyed hiking to Bear Cliffs from house. We had beautiful Fall views. Nice sitting around fireplace in the evening. Very large dining room worked well for us. Beds were comfortable. Kitchen had everything. Attentive hosts live near by. Great porch!

“The Barnacle” is the place you’re looking for!
My wife and I are overdue in leaving this review but honestly I blame our beautiful stay at “The Barnacle” because ever since we’ve left it’s been hard to shake off the levels of relaxation we felt during our stay.
From the minute we booked our reservation, Blake and Patty were lovely to communicate with. They thought through all the small details that would make our stay perfect- from greeting us at our arrival, ample towels, bicycles ready and waiting for our to ride, a fully-stocked kitchen with everything you can imagine (including snacks, breakfast items, s’mores and a bottle of a delicious red wine) to a warm hot tub ready and waiting for us the minute we checked in.
And the house! It’s BEAUTIFUL. Perfect for a large family or group of close friends (like we were). It’s big enough that you don’t feel on top of each other but still intimate in the ways you want it to be when you’re reconnecting with people you love.
The dining room was so perfect for long extended meals and great conversations. We also spent a lot of time playing games on the plush couch in front of the fireplace. If the beds weren’t so comfortable some of us may have slept there. Lol.
Blake and Patty’s home is immaculate and exactly what you think of when you’re in need of an Upstate getaway.
We received so many compliments on finding such a lovely home to rent!
We’ll absolutely be coming back! Book this place of you can!
Thanks again, Blake and Patty!

A unique experience
A dozen friends stayed at Cragsmoor for a long weekend. The property is exceptional in every aspect. Each bedroom is fantastically furnished and the mattresses are very comfortable. The kitchen is great, fully equipped. The dining room is perfect for large dinners -very comfortable table and chairs. We found the space really charming. The most rewarding part of our experience was the hosts, Blake and Patty. They knew we were coming late on Thursday night and arranged for us to have some food for the night and day, readied the jacuzzi and welcomed us personally with the warmest attitude. I do not remember having been treated with such consideration by a host before. Blake was always available over text message for anything we needed, and he recommended outdoor activities for us to do during the day. Communication was very easy and fluid. Blake and Patty also had bikes for us, which we used to explore the area. In a summer night you will hear the crickets chirping all over the trees over sunset and twilight, a unique treat. We recommend Cragsmoor, without a doubt. It's a unique experience.

An oasis and a home
Our stay in Cragsmoor was the oasis we were seeking; a break from the city. Nestled in the mountains, the location was perfect with its' majestic views. As soon as we stepped into the yard and then throughout the house, we were greeted with so many beautiful ways to decompress and enjoy our time.
We biked, built fires in the outside pit and inside fireplace, took dips in the hot tub, took many walks, and did a couple of the surrounding hiking trails (you must see Sam’s Point). We visited the sweet, historical free library, checked out books and attended an afternoon rubiks cube event!
We had 2 early teenagers with us and they made good use of the game room (stocked with games, art, legos ); it also had workout materials (yoga mats, exercise bike). As cooks (and coming from our smaller space in NYC), the kitchen was a dream. Fully stocked with every appliance you can think of, every basic spice/condiment, plenty of plates, cups, utensils.... just everything.
The bedrooms and bathrooms were gorgeous, comfortable bedding and beds, plenty of towels and extra of anything/toiletries we may have forgotten.
The walls are studded with gorgeous artwork. 5-6 different reading nooks... we have been gone 3 days now and miss the house so, so much! And while it sound like we kept busy, we had lots and lots of downtime. You must relax in the hammock; so comfortable and an amazing tree/sky view!
As for our hosts, Blake & Patti went above and beyond to make us feel welcome at their historic home. From all of the extras inside, to all the special details outside, access to bikes, tips for getting out and about; They were quick to respond to any need. You will be greeted like friends and leave as family.
We highly recommend this place and plan on coming back again and again.

Amazing Hosts, Amazing House, Amazing Overall Experience
Amazing Hosts: From the first interaction to the last, Blake and Patty went above and beyond. They did everything in their power to ensure we had a wonderful vacation. Phrases that come to mind: Extremely thoughtful, excellent communication, truly cared about our overall experience, treated us like family.
Amazing House: Both the house and grounds are beautiful. Blake and Patty went through a significant multi year renovation to update and upgrade the historical estate. They succeeded with modern updates however maintaining the historical charm. The house was spotless and clean (the most clean house we have ever rented period). Most items were new and never used. The kitchen had every possible item you would need or want. The furniture, bedding, towels, etc were in perfect condition. The hot tub, patio, out door dining, fire pit, covered porch were excellent.
When arriving the house was completely stocked with items to get us going. The refrigerator was filled with incredibly useful items (milk, eggs, juice, condiments, beer, bread, etc.). The counters had snacks ready to go. It felt like walking into a full stocked B&B. It really was amazing and thoughtful. THANK YOU!!!! Each bathroom was completely stocked with useful items including soap and other personal items. The list could go on and on how wonderful they thought about pretty much everything.
Amazing Overall Experience: The house is located in a peaceful setting. The grounds are beautiful and many local hikes to do, some of which you can walk a few minutes from the house to start. The goal of the trip was to unplug and recharge from life. This house allowed our extended family a time to talk, catch up and relax.
I could go on and on why I would rent and stay here again. 100% positive experience that we will always remember.
