About this house rental

We are thrilled to tell you about this beautiful, 4 bedroom home on Kiawah Island! Located in the exclusive Vanderhorst gated community of the Kiawah Island Golf Resort, this recently renovated, cedar-plank home features a private saltwater pool and scenic wooded views of the maritime forests surrounding the home. Situated on a quiet cul-de-sac, this home is just a short walk or bike ride over to the beach boardwalk which leads out to ten miles of pristine sandy beach along the Atlantic Ocean.

Entering the main level of the home, you'll be impressed by the open floor-living room, which is highlighted by tray ceiling, white beadboard wainscoting, and hardwood floors throughout. The massive windows allow in an abundance of natural light. This main living room area has comfortable, modern furnishing which face the 55" plasma television and fireplace with built-in shelving. Between this area and the kitchen, you'll find a large wooden dining table with seating for 8 guests. Just off this area are glass doors that lead onto the expansive rear sundeck.

Moving into the renovated kitchen area, you'll appreciate the upgraded cabinetry, granite countertops, stylish backsplash, stainless steel appliances, and large pantry area, all which add to the contemporary feel of the area. The large central island provides a great spot for prepping meals & entertaining, and it boasts four additional stools for seating at the breakfast bar. From the kitchen area, you can access the lovely screened porch area.

Three of the four bedrooms can found on the first floor of the home (one king, one queen, and one full bed + bunk bed). Each of these rooms have their own private bathrooms, closet space and televisions. The queen bedroom also has direct access to the pool deck.

There is a half bathroom off the main living area and a spacious laundry/mudroom with full washer/dryer unit and a utility sink on the first floor for your convenience.

Moving to the second level of the home, you'll find the generous master suite, which enjoys the privacy of it's own floor! It boasts a king bed, walk-in closet, TV and a private balcony overlooking the pool. It has a spacious en-suite bathroom with dual vanity sinks and custom walk-in shower with built-in bench.

Perhaps the most exciting part of the home, however, is the outside back deck area. Spend your days taking a swim in the large saltwater pool or relaxing in the teak lounge chairs on the renovated ipe pool deck with cable railing. Imagine yourself enjoying a cup of coffee while taking in Kiawah's unique wildlife or reminiscing over late night card games with friends and family on the cozy screened porch.

Come find your perfect island beach getaway at this special home!

Booked this property for a wedding on the island asking the pool be turned on the morning of our arrival, a Thursday. When we checked in at 4 pm., the water in the pool water was quite cold but figured we needed to give it time and headed out for dinner. Contacted the management company Friday morning as the pool was still not heating up and told them the water coming from the jets was cold. They said the heater is turned on remotely via an app and they would check with whoever manages that. A bit later they contacted us to say that they confirmed it was turned on, that it takes a while to heat up, that it was not a hot tub and the water temp would would only be 10-15 degrees warmer than the air temp. It was much cooler than the air temp so no swimming Friday. Saturday morning the pool still was not heating up and we again contacted them. Shortly thereafter, the pool heater turned on - we could hear a motor running under the deck and coincidentally, within five minutes a man came up onto the deck to clean the pool. The water coming from the jets was now warm and warm air was coming up through the deck as the heater exhaust must be under where you sit. However it was now 11 a.m. Saturday and the pool was JUST turned on. We knew from the management’s previous comments it takes a while to heat up. As we had to leave for the wedding at 3:30 p.m. and check out by 10 a.m. the next morning, we contacted the management company requesting they turn the heater off as it was not going to be any use to us now. We asked that they refund the $450 we paid in advance for this service. They said they needed to reach out to the management company about this - I thought they were the management company! No further communication from anyone, and we have had to initiate a dispute on our credit card to get resolve this. Very disappointing as the pool was supposed to be part of the stay. Also the house does have a mildew odor. We opened some windows to air it out which helped but had to be closed up in the evening because of the mosquitoes. As another reviewer pointed out, the property is a bit tired which we find typical of rentals but can overlook that if everything else is a good experience. And in this case it wasn’t. Don’t rent this property.

Tired, Tiny Property with Moldy Smell
Tired, Tiny Property with Moldy Smell
We were so excited to spend a week with our older parents and kids in Kiawah. This is our 12th year renting in Kiawah and our 4th year with Sweetgrass. We are very adept at reading and interpreting online listings. The property does not at all reflect the listing- first, the place is is moldy. It has an awful mold smell when you walk in and my husband and I immediately had allergies to the mold- my first time ever, with watery eyes and trouble breathing. It is also very small- essentially a shotgun house with a bedroom upstairs. Perhaps one nuclear family can use the house but if it is 2 families you would literally be on top of each other as the living room is next to all the downstairs bedrooms (so no TV at night if kids are sleeping). The description of the house is inaccurate as to the upkeep of the house- all but one of the bathrooms were not "renovated", with mold in the bathrooms and old modular fittings and the furniture in the house is all worn, nicked in places along with the paint in the house. The kitchen is newer but is also pretty run down when you get close to it. The outside pool area is very nice and it is in a good location for Kiawah with easy access to the beach We immediately contacted Sweetgrass. The property manager insisted that the house reflected the listing and made no accommodations. Our only choice was to try to relist the house and he would comp us some money back. Due to the fact that I could not breathe in the house, we were forced to move out the next day and lost all of the money we had spent renting the house.
