About this house rental
Thank you for checking out Hygge House on Richmond Pond! Hygge (hoo-ga) is the Danish art of enjoying life's simple pleasures, an atmosphere of comfort and coziness . This is exactly how our family feels at Hygge House and what we hope our guests will experience too!
What makes our home a unique and ideal sanctuary for a memorable hygge experience? Well, our property caters to a variety of #vacagoals, whether you are looking forward to unwinding and rejuvenating, getting active, communing with nature or exploring the quaint Berkshires towns. Though for many, Hygge House is all the sanctuary you’ll need. Our home is a waterfront property allowing you and your friends or family to walk out the backdoor and get right onto the calm water, using one of our watercraft (kayak and canoe - life jackets provided) and paddle down the inlet, under the bridge to the large, 223-acre Richmond Pond (FYI, fishing is very hygge!), or simply enjoy the serenity of sitting on an adirondack on the back lawn by the water with a coffee and a book. Preparing meals on the Weber grill and enjoying them at the picnic table is a favorite activity for our family. After grilling up some killer burgers, see who can roast the perfect marshmallow for their s’mores at the firepit. Paddle, walk, bike (bring your own) or drive to the Richmond Pond Town Beach. A one mile walk/bike/drive to Bartlett’s Orchard is a perfect way to start your day with homemade apple cider donuts, a variety of gourmet provisions and, of course, apples!
The Space
Inside, the newly furnished, spacious 2,100 square foot house offers 3 separate living areas, including a chalet-style living room with fireplace, brand new, super comfy couch and oversized chairs (great for family game night - bingo is our girls’ favorite!), an open concept dining/family room with comfy couch and TV on one side, and a large dining table on the other, plus a gorgeous sunroom facing the backyard and pond inlet, ideal for a morning coffee or rainy afternoon nap. For mind-body serenity, check out our yoga/meditation space looking out over the treetops. If you can’t completely leave the real world behind, the yoga space doubles as a work space (not very hygge :( ) located on the second floor, away from the action downstairs. Kids need some hygge time too, and yours will love the bedroom “cozy corner” for reading and the play space for...playing.
The Area
Hygge House is located centrally in the Berkshires, known for its year-round attractions, providing visitors with all the classic New England charms and attractions, from skiing, tubing and snowshoeing in the winter, to hiking and biking in the spring, to kayaking and swimming in the summer, and gazing at the fall foliage in, you guessed it, the fall. And for those looking for cultural pursuits, the Berkshires offers some of the world’s best music, theater and dance venues including Tanglewood, Jacob’s Pillow and Shakespeare & Co.
The House
Three bedrooms (brand new king, queen, twin over full bunkbed) and three separate living areas (2,100 sq ft in all) provide ample space to gather with friends and family or enjoy quiet relaxation.
Enjoy time in the main living room boasting a gorgeous large wood-burning fireplace, along with a 50” flat screen TV (free access to Roku TV apps which give you Free Movies & TV including hundreds of free channels featuring movies, TV, sports, music, and more. Also, sign into Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc. with your personal account).
Share meals, movies and games (bingo anyone?) in the inviting, spacious dining/family room featuring a large dining table, comfy couch and a 43” flat screen TV (Spectrum Cable. Also, sign into Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc. with your personal account).
The sunroom is one of our favorite spaces to enjoy coffee in the morning or take an afternoon nap with the sun streaming in the wall of windows and the view to the backyard and inlet providing all the cues of nature (there’s nothing more hygge than communing with Mother Nature).
Just off the sunroom is the “kid's corner” where little ones can enjoy playing in the tent, drawing on the chalkboard wall or enjoying one of the books and games available in the cupboard.
The large kitchen with gas stove is equipped with the tools you’ll need to prepare a meal to share with friends and family. Four (yes, 4) types of coffee makers are available for those particular about their morning joe. Basic seasonings are also provided…just bring your favorite ingredients.
Finishing off the downstairs tour is the full bathroom (with tub) and laundry area.
Moving to the 2nd floor, please use caution on the rather steep stairs to the master bedroom. The spacious master with king bed looks out over the back yard and inlet. The sloped ceilings and comfy reading chair make for a very hygge space. Off the master is the separate office and yoga space where you can work or stretch looking out over the backyard trees. There is high-speed wi-fi throughout the house. Through the office/yoga room is the upstairs bathroom with shower and on the other side of the bathroom you’ll find the two additional bedrooms. The “black and white” room with queen bed is tucked under the sloped eave - one of our favs aesthetically. The kids room provides a twin over full bunkbed (for those both young and young at heart) and a “cozy corner” with beanbag chairs and fairy lights. Finally, the second stairway leads from the B&W and kids rooms back down to the dining/family room.

The property was just as described, comfortable and inviting. We spent much of our time on the back deck cooking, eating and playing games. Unless you're an experienced kayakers, I'd recommend using the boat launch down the road vs the small ramp out back. The kitchen was well equipped and the beds were very comfortable. We were grateful for the ac units in the bedrooms, there isn't much cross ventilation. Overall a great week at a wonderful house.

This house is five stars! Very clean and well maintained. The owners have thought of everything. There is a well appointed kitchen with dishes for both inside and out. Lots of serving plates and bowls and lots of kid friendly dishes. The beds are comfortable and the towels are great for both the bath and beach. Lots of books and games. We loved sitting on the deck but also loved the proximity to so many activities. Everything was less than 15 minutes away.

We loved this house. It is old but in a very charming way and it has been updated to work for a modern family. We absolutely loved the decor and having so many comfortable sitting spots was fantastic. The property is also lovely and peaceful. The pond out back had a few families of Canadian geese with their young goslings, which was fun to sit and watch.
One minor inconvenience was the parking situation out front, which was muddy due to recent rains. This was not ideal, but manageable. Overall we loved it and would recommend to other families looking to stay in the Berkshires area, which is just stunningly beautiful.

My family and I had a wonderful stay at this clean, beautiful home while skiing nearby. In the evenings everyone enjoyed the cozy fireplace in the family room.

Well-kept house on the inlet
House was amazingly well organized and neat. The layout of the place is special, with a wonderful sun room looking out on the water. Everything we needed in the kitchen and playrooms, and then some. The backyard borders an inlet. The water is a bit murky there, but you can easily paddle the canoe or kayak into large Richmond Pond to go swimming there.
Centralized location in the region. It seemed like all the major Berkshire attractions were within a 25-minute drive. Owners were very helpful from a respectful distance, Geese are both a delight to watch and a bit messy with their poop! We had a grand time.

Perfect Home Base for Berkshires Hiking
My husband and I had a great Berkshire getaway with our two boys at this well-appointed, super-comfortable, kid-friendly home. The home is well-located and within 15 minutes to varied hiking destinations like Olivia's Lookout, Bullard Woods Trail, and Mass Audubon's Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary. We also had a great time at the Norman Rockwell Museum and canoeing on Richmond Pond. Highly recommend!

We stayed at the Hygge for a family getaway with my 7yo and 3yo and we had a great experience. Unfortunately because of Hurricane Henri, our trip was cut short by one night, but the Bernows responded instantly to our questions. The house was immaculate, well equipped, and perfect for our little family. We took advantage of the kayaks and the beach. The house is centrally located so the nearby towns were all close. We ate in Great Barrington, Lenox and Pittsfield. We rented a pontoon boat on Lake Onota, which is an enormous and beautiful lake. Overall, we had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend staying here!
