We had a great time at The Freeman! The little touches like fresh fruit and a welcome basket made it even more special for our family getaway.

We've stayed in a lot of home rentals - and across the board - this was the best place ever.
The home was clean, nicely decorated and super comfortable. The hosts were easy to get a hold of and incredibly welcoming, leaving us with a generous basket of local treats.
We loved the peaceful outdoor space and roamed all 40 acres. The pond was beautiful and if it had only been warmer we'd have jumped in the rowboat.
We will be back for sure. A++
Thank you, Anna!

This was our second holiday vacation in this amazing house. We had 9 children and 8 adults and there was plenty of room. The grounds are spectacular with great outdoor seating around the fire pit. The house works beautifully for a large group, beds are all comfy. We definitely will rent this property again. Communication with the Property Manager Matt is excellent. He was very responsive and helpful.

The house and grounds are just wonderful! The layout is perfect for a large family gathering, with plenty of bedrooms (seven rather than the five indicated in the VRBO listing), a plethora of seating areas, a well equipped kitchen, and activities galore. The outdoor area is especially lovely, despite the imperfect condition of the cushions and on-site tennis court. I'm so glad we found this house for our vacation.

The property was spotless and a perfect location to host our wedding. Managers were responsive to texts and helpful if there were any questions during our stay. We enjoyed a great few day that we will forever remember!

This home is absolutely stunning, it accommodated the whole wedding, party to stay there with us, rehearsal, dinner, and beautiful outdoor wedding. We had an wedding arbor with the mountain in the back ground, and the VRBO provided beautiful wooden benches for all guests to sit on. This home is fully stocked with everything you will need. Wish I could upload pictures.

We really enjoyed our stay. The place was beautiful and expansive. It was large enough to create privacy amongst multiple families. Really enjoyed all the different living areas. Highly recommend.

So, I reached out to the property manager prior to check-in a number of times because of not-so-great house rental experiences in the past. BUT unnecessary-- as the Freeman Property EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTIONS. Fresh flowers and fruit on the tables, and a lovely welcome note and basket- that alone showed the care the owners take in welcoming guests. I was especially pleased that my father- wheelchair bound- was able to participate in family events (watching movies, playing games, meals, etc) and enjoy most of the house (ground level). Gorgeous welcoming spaces for all my family members- from cousins, my sons, brothers, SIL, niece, and nephew playing board and video games and spending time outside, on/near the water- to my aunts, uncles, and my parents (in their 70s) relaxing outside. What was most memorable: for all the lovely space the house provided, my family mostly gravitated to the kitchen, laughing and watching my aunts and mother "compete" in cooking their favorite dishes. We gathered for my son's graduation from Berkshire School (about 2 mi away) but staying at the property for the week was so much more for us-- it was a family reunion; an incredible opportunity for family from FL, TX, GA, NY, and CT to come together, share great food, and family stories. My family was extraordinarily grateful- staying together in the house was an experience we'll never forget. Highly recommend this property-- I hope we'll have the chance to stay at the Freeman again.

House was great so much space and on an amazing property. There aren’t very many rooms which was listed but I must have missed but more than enough pull outs/beds for my group of 21. Everyone had a great time. Host was very quick to respond and extremely helpful. Overall wonderful stay and would stay again!

Hi Daniel,
We had a magical weekend at the Freeman. Although the venue was more house than I had wanted or needed, it was embraced and enjoyed by all! We especially enjoyed the cozy wood paneled room where we all gathered before and after our chef-catered dinner. We had a roaring fire and played music (lots of musicians in our family) into the wee hours! The Freeman had everything we needed. Our chef seemed pleased too. The house was very clean and tidy. I will list a few recommendations/suggestions for future reference. We own a retail business and we always say, "If people don't tell us then we may not know," 1) lighting: you may want to think about dimmers. The lighting fixtures are lovely but too much light and no way to control it. 2) Maybe consider switching a couple of the double beds for queens. Most couples don't appreciate doubles anymore. 3) Need a few martini glasses
4) better instructions on finding the code pad for access to the house, it's not at the front door! Other than that, the place was pretty perfect! Hope you take these musing in the spirit that they are given. Thanks for your help, Dan, and to everyone who responded quickly and thoroughly to my numerous inquiries. Think Spring! Elizabeth

My friends and I spent 4 nights at the Freemont and had an amazing time. The place had so much to offer, we never felt cramped, and all got to eat at the same table together for every meal. It was a very nice place to stay.

We stayed at The Freeman with our immediate family and closest friends to celebrate our wedding and it was amazing. Daniel and the property management were phenomenal- so responsive and answered all of our questions. The house was more beautiful in person than the pictures lead on, and with the most comfortable beds we've had in a rental property. The yard is well maintained and was perfect for games and enjoying the gorgeous weather. Kitchen and large dining room easily served our group and the house allows for plenty of space for people to spread out. We also were able to bring our dogs along, and the house came complete with treats and a crate. I cannot say enough positive things about the home and the experience leading up to our stay!

We loved the Freeman House!
We enjoyed working w Daniel and his team. We appreciated the historical link to Black life in the Berkshires, the are and particularly the sculpture. Having a variety of gathering area/living rooms was great along w game room and huge patio.
The pond was a hit!
There were some things that were still in process (air conditioning, second fridge. Etc). We raised a few issues and got great help from Jesse or information about what is in process as the property is still being developed.
We look forward to returning and to even better accommodations!

Had the most perfect weekend hosting my friends bachelorette at this estate! Everything is exactly how it appears in pictures. Perfect yard for hanging out, grilling and lawn games. We had one small issue upon arrival and the host got back to us right away to handle it. Would definitely rent here again!

Simply lovely
It’s was an extended family getaway for the holiday weekend. The beauty and spaciousness of the home didn’t disappoint. The grounds were magnificent and the Berkshire region is great to explore.
The telephone number listed on the sheet they left for the property manager was wrong. Needs to be amended as this has been a continuing problem according to the person incorrectly called. Small issue.

Beautiful house in a great location
We were 4 families with 2 kids each, at the ages of 3-6.
The property is one of the most beautiful ones we've seen.
The rooms were huge, and the pond and the "back yard" (which is an endless space for the kids to play in) - just too perfect to be true. It was kids (and dogs) friendly. 2.5 hours from Manhattan. Less than 20 min from the relevant ski area (butternut).
The property manager was very responsive, the guidance was great and clear.
Thanks everyone for making it such a great vacation!
We will come back, for sure!

Catamount Ski Weekend
We rented this property with two other families for a long weekend. 6 adults 9 children and you would have been none the wiser. Ample space, great amenities, and only 4mi to the mountain. Great property and very responsive management team. All around great weekend

I normally would never want to leave a bad review but I would like to prevent others from experiencing what I did. In general the house was nice, if you don’t mind the smell of raw sewage. When we arrived we were told by the owners sister that they were having some cleaning issues. She let us know one bathroom was out of order and they were having an issue with a smell. When we finally checked in the smell in the house was unbearable. In searching around we found a crawlspace in the basement filled with raw sewage. In contacts with the owners sister we finally found out that they had a sewer pipe back up several days earlier and did not get it cleaned up in time, so instead they willingly rented a house that had a basement full of sewage that they would not be able to clean up during our stay. In exchange for our experience they dropped off some candles and some wine. We were told that we would receive a 33% refund for our misfortune and so far I’ve only received a piece of that refund. From what I can gather the absentee owner buys these houses and flips them and rents them in the interim, and gives his family members a couple bucks to deal with any problems. His advertisement is also false because he claims the house is 14,000 ft.² but he has it listed for sale with a realtor at 10,000 ft.² so hes claiming the house is 40% larger than it is in a rental. The good reviews are also mostly false because he has managed to tie reviews from previous houses he has owned to appear to be for this house. Do yourself a favor and do not rent from Daniel, As he is renting houses that he is in the midst of rehabbing that are not ready for the rental market,

It doesn’t get much better than this!
We rented the Freeman Estate to celebrate my husbands 45th birthday with family and friends, and everyone raved about the property. It’s absolutely beautiful, well kept and fully stocked. We cooked 3 square meals a day while there for a party of 13 kids and adults. The kitchen was stocked with all the utensils, platters, appliances and misc items we could ask. We all walked the property and got our eyes full of the well kept grounds, beautiful lake and mountain scenery.
The kids loved the VR headset, PlayStation4, and the arcade games in the basement. Movie and game night in the lodge area was super cozy, especially when we got the fire going.
All the bedrooms and bathrooms were beautiful and comfortable. At 14,000 sqft, that’s a whole lot of house but it truly felt like home. They did a wonderful job with the interior design. The experience was equal parts luxury and comfort.
Our only cons were we wished there was a washer/dryer. Although there was an ironing board, we couldn’t find the iron or the paddles for the table tennis. Also a hot tub for winter guests would be divine! All in all we loved our time there! Thank you Shana and Jesse for being available when needed.

This property is simply stunning! Nestled in the Berkshires, it is breathtaking!
This is, by far, the best experience we have had. The home exceeded our expectations. The views from every room are exceptional. It’s spacious, yet cozy!
We hosted a party here and every person who walked in was overwhelmed with the estates beauty.
The property manager and staff were top notch, and beyond accommodating. The kitchen is fit for a Master chef, and the bedrooms are superb! Amazing stay! Highest of recommendations!

Such an amazing place to spend time
This is a unique place to spend time with friends and family. One half of the Freeman is a stunning mansion, complete with a dramatic entry way to several fabulous spaces, including a ridiculous master bedroom suite. The other half feels like a quaint log cabin. The grounds are basically a park, with huge lawns full of amazing trees, edible gardens and wine grapes?! There's even a private lake.
Aside from all this, we had the whole place to ourselves. It was absolutely completely private. It was surreal having complete run of the place.
Also, it's in the Berkshires, which is just a magnificent place. I highly recommend asking about their complementary concierge service to help plan out what to do during your stay. That was a really nice touch!
