About this house rental
Welcome to Villa Monos Bailarines - aka 'House of the Dancing Monkeys'. This beautiful property is comprised of a 2-bedroom main home and 1-bedroom studio guest house around an idyllic pool terrace. Surrounding the property is a lush rainforest full of bamboo, palm and fruit trees, rife with the local wildlife.
A cement walkway descends from the parking area through the gardens to the villas. To the left is the main villa with its huge, covered patio. To the right is the studio guesthouse, also with an oversized, covered patio. Both communicate directly with the pool terrace, which is flanked by jungle.
The main home is two levels, with two spacious master bedrooms upstairs, each with king beds (one can be converted into 2 singles upon request). Each bedroom has AC, TVs, its own ensuite bathroom and access the upper balcony which overlooks the pool. Downstairs is an open living room with AC, a dining area and full kitchen, all of which communicate to the outdoor, covered patio via sliding glass doors.
The outdoor, covered patio is the heart of the property, and where you'll spend a lot of time. With a large table for eight people it is usually the preferred spot for meals, games and fun. A couple of steps lead down to the pool terrace, bringing the most important elements of the property into close proximity.
The studio guest house is spacious with high ceilings and a colonial feel. There is a large ensuite bathroom, AC, one queen bed and one double bed. On the far end of the huge, covered patio is a hammock--for those afternoon-nappers who want to be in a quiet spot.
The rainforest surrounding the villas is part of a biological corridor, and therefore bustling with wildlife. Common sights are sloths, agoutis, iguanas, butterflies and tons of birds, including the vainglorious toucans and scarlet macaws.
Oh--and monkeys. All three kinds. There are the howler monkeys--they're the ones that wake you up in the morning. There are the capuchin monkeys--they're the ones who steal your bananas and then glare at you for it. And there are the titi monkeys--those are the ones who truly love to dance.

We loved staying here and got to see monkeys playing around the pool! We will be back!

This Villa was the perfect size for our family of 4 with room to spare! Enjoyed seeing a variety of wildlife outside, especially the Macaws. The pool was a nice, shady reprieve from the heat. The concierge was a wonderful amenity and was so helpful in booking activities and transportation. Absolutely loved our stay!

We were very impressed with Vanessa, our concierge. She made our vacation!! She helped us plan all activities, set up transportation, made sure we had groceries. I can't say enough good things about her.

We loved out stay. While the property can accommodate a larger number of people, my wife and I had it all to ourselves.
Everything about it was comfortable and clean. The furniture and beds passed our test, and we're pretty picky. The kitchen is well equipped - although we opted to eat out each night. It really does have a jungle feel and we saw macaws, toucans, spider monkeys, and iguanas while sitting around the pool. While you're not far from the road, it feels pretty isolated, which we enjoyed.
There are a lot of steps to get down to the property, which means there are a lot to go up to get back to the parking area. It was very manageable for us (we're in our 60s), but it might not be for everyone. The drive in, felt pretty challenging the 1st time, but in a day or so it was relatively easy.
The location seemed just right for the things we wanted to do. I was concerned that the area would feel too crowded and touristy, but that wasn't the case. There are tons of good restaurants and it was an easy drive to beaches. We used it as home base and covered a lot of the area. There are beautiful beaches nearby, and we also explored Uvita and Dominical.
You should be prepared for the possibility that the power may go out. It happened once during the week we were there. The problem was in the area and it was back on in a few hours. The weather was warm and humid during our stay. The air conditioning is very adequate. Highly recommended!!!

My wife and i decided to spend our 10th anniversary at a place neither of us had ever been, Costa Rica. We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Villa Monos Bailerinas. We enjoyed the accommodations that the spacious villa provided. We thoroughly enjoyed the scenic views that the villa provided along with the wildlife.
We enjoyed watching the a couple of sloths sleep in the trees on day 2 but had not seen any monkeys amd were a little disappointed by that, however on our last 2 days we saw a lot of monkeys in the trees we even got to stand out on the balcony and watch them play on the roof next door.
We were centrally located near many restaurants and beaches as well as shopping.
My wife and i had a great trip and lots of relaxation and will definitely consider staying there again.
Kent the host was very accommodating and it was greatly appreciated.

We hated to leave the house of the dancing monkeys! The beds were very comfortable, it was clean with walk-in showers and pool was the perfect temperature after the sweltering heat and humidity on hikes during the day.
The casita has a huge walk-in shower and a big walk-in closet. We couldn't tell that from the pictures, so it was a nice surprise for my son's family.
From the porch and pool, we saw macaws, toucans, geckos, capuchins, an agouti, and a fruit bat that came out at night for the blooms on the banana tree. Clay colored thrushes (national bird of Costa Rica) had nested on the porch and the pair entertained us all week as they feed the baby birds. Reviews from 2022 mentioned sloths, but we searched with binoculars and never spotted any. There were many birds.
We discovered mid-way through our stay that there is a handy shower at the top of the steps to rinse beach sand off your feet. Nice!
Kent, the property manager, was very responsive to my messages.
We had our 3 year old and an almost 2 year old grandchildren with us. They slept in the casita with their parents. We could secure that door to keep the kids from accidentally getting out by the pool (if they woke up before their parents), which was very important to us.
However, we could not secure the sliding door of the main house to keep the toddlers inside. My 2 year old grandson figured how to open that "locked" door with 30 minutes of arrival.
If you have trouble navigating steps, it is worth mentioning that there are 46 steps down to the house from the parking lot. Add another 4 steps down to get to the casita, and about 8 more down to the laundry room in the basement of the casita.
The trade off is a beautiful, fairly secluded area, surrounded by trees and wildlife. The monkeys really put on a show for us. We loved this place!

We enjoyed our 7 days here. We had 4 adults and 5 kids and fit comfortably within the main house and guest house. The location is very centrally located to all the attractions and is fairly private to other homes. As others have said it is a steep hill up to the house but we rented a van and it made the trip fine. There are many stairs down to the house so I would not recommend the place if you have any one that needs assistance walking.
We hired Chef Michael for 6 meals throughout the week. He was very timely and the food was great but fair warning he only takes cash and wants to be paid daily. It was roughly $1000 USD up front for his services and then we paid for the daily groceries he bought which on average were 150. It added up fast! We were not prepared for that kind of cash on hand so had to take many trips to the ATM in town-wish we would have known an estimate up front since we did have to select the meals up front. If I had to do it again I would a roll have him for breakfasts but the local restaurants are great and very relaxed so I probably would not have used him for many dinners.
The excursions we selected were awesome! We did horseback riding to waterfalls, sunset boat, zip lining, ATVs and had a few beach days. The house manager was great scheduling rides for us ahead of time which made it very easy! All of the excursions came with transportation which was also very helpful.
Overall it was a great trip with so many memories made!

I'm going to try to keep this short but we had an interesting experience at this villa.
Pros: We were allowed to check-in early. It's large, a good option for big families. The concierge and cleaner are very kind and reply quickly. We saw a family of monkeys by the pool. The location is in a good spot between Quepos and Manuel Antonio. The AC works well.
Cons: The host isn't readily available via VRBO and you need to contact the concierge via WhatsApp if any issues arise (to my knowledge this means if anything happens during your stay it's not documented in the app). There are several stairs down a steep walkway and it was pitch black, this did get resolved, just double check that the light is on if you stay here. The house is dated and could use some repairs. The master bathroom had a lot of mold, which they remedied most of. We take mold seriously with autoimmune diseases in our family. The host's reply was that we are lucky to not have traveled during rainy season. When the mold was getting remedied the maintence guy turned on the alarm system (one we were not given instructions on using). When we returned the ear-piercing alarm went off for almost an hour, while my 1 year old and 4 year old needed naps. The concierge finally got ahold of maintence to fix it. The host replied 3 days later and he blamed us for setting off the alarm that we didn't have instructions on using. The only other con we had was that most of the cleaning supplies are put away because they encourage you to have the housekeeper clean during your stay. I love the option of that service, I just also wish I had the option to clean myself. I also liked the option for the grocery service but wouldn't use it again as it was expensive and we ended up with 40 waffles for a 6 night stay. I don't blame the concierge for that though, her and the house keeper were lovely- just a lesson learned on our behalf.
To get the host to reply via VRBO we had to ask the concierge to contact him several times, and finally when she sent our grocery bill we told her we would pay it ASAP and that we just wanted to speak with the host first. That's when he finally replied and was hostile. He got very defensive saying if I shared my experience here that he'd give us a bad review. What for, I'm not sure.
Either way, as a full time traveling family who has never run into a host this unpleasant, we wanted to share our experience even if that's risking our own review.

Great home for working nomads who stayed a month and did not want a car. Three couples all working, had great Wi-Fi and a great time. The home was clean and comfortable. Easy access to bus line, which runs between Quepos and Manuel Antonio National Park. Many restaurants, shops, daily yoga classes, hikes and multiple beaches. An ATM was an easy downhill walk to the Marina. Our favorite local beach was La Matcha. Favorite dinner spot was Hotel La Mariposa.
Property highlights included daily visits from squirrel and white-faced monkeys, rare scarlet macaws, mot- mots and a resident garden agouti.
The conceirge service was outstanding. When we had an issue, the property manager responded quickly and immediately resolved the problem.
Looking forward to a future stay.

Great place! The location is close to everything we wanted to do, and the house itself was very nice. The best part was that the house is surrounded by wildlife — in our backyard, we had whole groups of monkeys, macaws, and other exciting animals. Great rental!

Our group of 3 adults and 3 teens were very comfortable at this property for 5 nights in June 2022. The house (and guest house, which we used) were spacious and welcoming and the location was perfect for exploring Quepos and Manuel Antonio NP. Just a heads up, the house is located up a steep road with a hidden driveway and one must walk up and down quite a few stairs to enter the house. This was not at all a problem for us but it may be for others. Also the Wi-Fi does not reach the guest house, while the main house has excellent Wi-Fi. The staff we encountered were friendly and helpful, the house was very clean and tastefully decorated, the pool was welcoming on hot days and we enjoyed the company of 2 sloths and a troop of monkeys in the trees above the property. We would absolutely stay here again! Thank you for having us!

Absolutely amazing!
We loved our stay here and were so sad to leave. The houses were clean and comfortable, the monkeys came almost everyday, we saw a sloth, toucan, and Scarlett macaws as well. The location is perfectly situated between Quepos and Manuel Antonio—a short drive either way for groceries, restaurants, attractions. We would return in a heartbeat.
