This rental is beautiful on the inside, with a great living area and kitchen, and plenty of bathrooms. Overall, it was a great choice for four single females on a vacation together. We were expecting more sleeping area; however, two of our party canceled so there was room for four of us. One queen bed and two full beds meant one of us slept on one of the non-pullout sofas. There were no futons or sleeper-sofas. Host was incredibly friendly and accomodating.
Cons: the neighborhood is pretty sketchy, but coming and going thru the garage ensured that we did not have to interact with anyone we didn't want to.

The house itself was just as advertised and the owner was very responsive. In another location we would have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. However, we did not enjoy it because the area felt very unsafe. There was sketchy activity going on in the alleyway behind us day and night, and someone was murdered across the street while we were there! Our Uber drivers kept questioning our judgement in choosing that location. It’s unfortunate, because the house is nice and 10-15 mins from the DC sights, but I’d recommend finding a safer place to stay.

We ended up not setting foot in the residence. We pulled in at 9pm from out of state. There were at least 15 -20 people roaming the streets around the residence. The porch light was not on and no parking in the street. Per the instructions you had to go inside first to open the garage. We did not feel safe to get out of the car to check in. Even the alley had people drinking and staggering. Youth were congregating in a construction site near the home. When your gut says get out of the area, you do. We drove to a safe location and looked for other lodging as it was late. We notified the owner and where told it was safe and that her neighbors were friendly. These people were not neighbors on their porches. It was lots of people roaming around and looking at us, and we just did not feel safe. Owner would not refund any money when we told her we did not feel safe and we would not enter. The correspondences we had did not make me feel any better when, stating “if you are inside you won’t hear anything and the area is well policed.” So, it may have been OK, but not a risk we were willing to take with a family. We lost a lot of money with this mistake. VRBO also was not helpful by going to bat for us. I have been a valuable VRBO/Home Away customer but this was not even decent customer service. We felt taken advantage of and wished we had researched the area better. The owner had no obligation to refund, but it would have been the nice thing to do. Don’t expect you are getting a good DC experience, especially for a family. The residence may have lots lots of space but we never found out.

We enjoyed our stay. The house is clean and well updated. Quick communication. Easy check in and check out. Neighborhood was in a little bit of a poor area but in the end it was very quiet and we never felt unsafe.
