The house was a beautiful decorated but there were a couple of concerns. There are no spots to hang towels in the bathrooms, which wasn’t a huge deal but noting that. Outdoor patio furniture needs to be cleaned & outdoor table unusable because it’s warped. The stamped concrete down to the dock is very nice, but it did rain a few days and essentially turns into an ice-skating rink. The landscaping was overgrown and covering the entire walkway down to the dock (about a 10-12 inch section for you to squeeze by to walk on the decking). Trex decking is spaced incorrectly (22”-24”), and one of our guests foot went through the decking. This was addressed and fixed, but was a few days after we let them know.

Great vacation. Actually able to relax.
The kids loved swimming off of the dock.

The home is beautiful and in a great location. It has a quiet cove which allowed for full days of floating and canoeing. The outdoor space is awesome as is the game room for kids.
The only negatives were: 1. The listing states there is a queen bedroom with 2 twin bunk beds. This isnt really a bedroom, its a loft area right above the kitchen and living room, so without a door, the noise really carried. 2. The kitchen was well stocked except for large pans. 3. The middle floor bathroom has a huge window without a cover or blinds offering no privacy. We wound up having to share 3 showers amongst 13 people.
Outside of those few things, we would definitely rent the home again and had a wonderful stay.

This home is beautiful & comfortable. We had 12 from 16 months to 71 years old. The host was very responsive & the home is clean and well maintained on the inside. The kitchen & great room layout perfect for large groups. Nice decking, fire-pit, walkways to dock except lower steps a challenge. Outdoor space tired, needs landscaping trimmed, new cushions, & dock cleaned. We lived on SML for 28 years & hosted hundreds of guests. We loved this house!
Things I wish I had known:
*there are no towel bars (they no longer provide beach towels) in any bathroom which precipitates towels hanging over banisters and chairs following showers;
*two kitchen towels, a small sponge, 4 dishwasher pods & a small bottle of dish soap is provided for the kitchen; with 12 people eating three meals a day we had to purchase all of the above to get through the week.
*plenty of pots and pans but no large skillet, instant pot, crock pot or large toaster.
*Sleeps 10 adults and 8 kids (all bunks are child-sized).
*Too many accessories for children (we had to move a few with a 16 month old)
*Need a second refrigerator for 18 (we had 12) people; we kept food in coolers for a few days. There’s ice across the road; great for coolers & drinks.
*Plenty of plates, flatware & glasses/coffee cups
*Plenty of trays & large bowls.
*No food storage containers.
*No extension cord for drink cooler at the dock (we did not contact the host to help resolve this situation so that’s on us).

We loved the house with its delightful coastal decor, creative tile bathrooms, comfortable furniture, deck with stunning lake view and long dining table that could fit all 12 of us. Some enjoyed kayaking in the lake.
We had some concerns and suggestions:
1) First and most serious, there is a sharp cement drop-off on one of the driveways that actually damaged the under-carriage of one of our cars.
2) Second and most annoying (set an unfortunate tone as soon as we arrived), the beds were not made when we arrived.
3) The house needs luggage racks for suitcases, hooks for hanging towels, dishwashing and laundry pods, large and small garbage bags (we had to buy both pods and bags), 6-10 tea towels for drying dishes. Both kitchen and laundry, however, were very well appointed.
4) Considering the high rental, cleaning and "service" fees, I thought the final cleaning responsibilities were excessive (cleaning inside of fridge, carrying laundry and even rugs down two flights to laundry machines, lugging garbage uphill to bins when bags were not supplied. We would expect this at a campsite cabin but not a luxury rental.
Overall we enjoyed our time at Southern Charm and felt the hosts were gracious and helpful.

Overall good location on the water in a quiet cove. Missed on several un-communicated expectations. Outdoor furniture needs updating- metal chairs are rusted and couches are moldy. We had rust on clothes from the chairs. All of the beds in the house were not made on arrival. There are 8 “twin” beds in the house however all are very uncomfortable and not made for anyone over 5’ tall. Super short. It was actually more comfortable to sleep on the floor. We did not have propane gas in the house for the last two days of the trip which meant we were unable to use the cooktop, outdoor fireplace, and gas grill. Host said we could leave early but not possible to find another place at the last minute. We weren’t even offered a credit for the inconvenience. Very frustrating. Overall more effort should have been made to provide more comfortable accommodations without expecting us to make beds, sleep on uncomfortable and undersized beds, and be without gas for two days.

The property is beautiful and accommodated our large group very well. We enjoyed having a bunk room for our kids! Meredith was kind to let us check in 2 hours early. The hot tub was cold and the chemicals had not dissolved for two days but her husband kept in communication and came to refill and clean it. Meredith offered some refund since we couldn’t use the hot tub for two days, which was nice. The only eating and drinking in designated areas rule was in the listing but seemed a little excessive especially if you rent to kids and the stools provided are rather uncomfortable. I also did not love that we had to make our own beds upon arrival. We loved hanging out by the long fire pit overlooking the water and our kids loved all
The grassy areas to throw the football. Overall it was a good stay, thank you Meredith.

Was wonderful for a large group. Plenty of space for 16 adults. The location could not be beat for us as it was close to stores and the marina.

This property is ideally situated near Bridgewater Marina in a quiet cove on SML. The house is beautiful and just as pictured in the listing. The Kayaks, ping pong table, arcade game and outdoor seating was great for entertaining people of all ages! The owner is extremely responsive and maintains the property very well.

Great location on a quiet cove. Home was very nice and clean. Plenty of spaces for everyone. We enjoyed the lake and hot tub. Host communication was excellent. This was our first VRBO, weren't sure what to expect. Would stay there again. Beware if trailering your own boat, the driveway is very tight. Would have liked a larger, or 2nd, refrigerator. Maybe a bigger trash can. Was a great week!

We've been vacationing at SML since 2006 and have experienced many different house rentals. While this one isn't our favorite so far, it did have quite a few plusses:
The location of this house is outstanding! You are close to the Bridge and restaurants by car or by boat. But as an added bonus, there is undeveloped land to the left of the house. Early mornings were spent bird-watching from the kayaks. We identified over 20 large and small bird species from bald eagles and herons to hummingbirds and pewees. This house is at the end of a no-wake cove. We had no problems docking our boat.
The house was fine for 7 adults. We loved the fire pit setup. The bunks are definitely for small children only! The bathrooms are spa-like but the owners haven't yet installed towel racks or hooks to hang your bath towels. The bedrooms are small but comfortable. The decor is lovely, but some of it just gets in your way.
The dock is good for boating and swimming. We would have like more comfortable dock seating instead of bar stools. The swim ladders were a bit scary (not bolted to the dock) so we used the ladder off of our boat instead. We loved the kayaks.

Overall we loved our stay. The dock was great and an easier walk for my grandparents. Plenty of rooms for our full party.
Bar chairs at the island in kitchen provided lots of extra seating though I would only let adults sit in it, they were too light for kids.
Everything we needed to cook with was there and overall we had a great time.

We had the best week on the lake! The house was perfect for our large group of 16 ranging from 2 months-60. We ate all meals at home and had no problem with space and kitchen supplies. The home was big enough that we could enjoy time together but also separate the kids when we needed a break! We couldn’t have had a better experience with the host or their home. Highly recommended! We plan to visit again!

We absolutely loved our stay at the southern charm SML. It was right on the water, my team loved the ameneties, and we loved the location. It was close to grocery stores and downtown shops. Plenty of pots/pans/plates/dishes for a large group, and plenty of space to cook.
Meredith was easy to communicate with during the ENTIRE process - from start to finish, and was super accommodating to my groups needs/as things changed. I only wish we had realized the twin beds were NOT meant for a college student - they were a bit tight. Plenty of couch space and we utilized the pullout couch.
10/10 recommend to a group or a family looking to reserve this location!

Due to the review process of VRBO, I am forced to write this review and will give my honest opinion. Happy to get our family and 83-year-old matriarch mother-in-law together for Thanksgiving. We all enjoyed the location on the lake. 18 people would be a stretch for this house in terms of bedrooms and the kitchen was not stocked that well for a Thanksgiving dinner for so many people. We had some issues with the stove and grill not working properly and it took us a few days to get the fireplace to light. The owners were helpful and responsive with the fireplace issue and we got by with the stove issue and lit the grill by hand. We had a wonderful time fishing and kayaking on the lake as the weather was unseasonable warm.
The day after we checkout we received a message that we damaged the 5K Sea Grass rug and we were shunned for not knowing any better that furniture cannot be moved onto a rug of this stature. We are all professionals who work in different professions from the Government, CPA partner, Constuction, education and Wellness. None of us never knew this about a rug. Perhaps a rental notebook, a sign or just a quick note or text to warn us about this could have prevented us from moving a chair closer to the fireplace to get cozy and to see our puzzle better. We own an AirBB and would never spend 5K on a rug to furnish it. We truly apologize for any damage the chair caused to the rug, but we were not being irresponsible, we were just uninformed. Every single one of us would have done anything in our power to return the home in the same or in better condition as we found it.

This property is absolutely beautiful! The photos look just like the physical location. Both indoor and outdoor spaces are so accommodating to guests! Although I came in mid-November, my guests and I were able to utilize the hot tub, fire pit, and deck on the lake! There is ample space to entertain and enjoy spending quality time together. The only con I will share is the size of the twin beds. They slept very snug for adults, and some opted to sleep on the couches (ample space!). I think kids would love the twin-sized mattresses. Overall, I had super fast and easy communication with the owner and was grateful for their attentiveness. This house is absolutely lovely, with a few wineries less than 20 minutes away! Highly recommend

Amazing House, Location, and Host
This property was so beautiful. The home, property, and dock, looked like something out of a magazine. The home was super clean and very up to date. It looked newly remodeled... it pretty much felt like a brand new house. The furnishings and decorations were beautiful and in great shape. The walls and general condition was great! The inside and outside of the house are beautiful. The landscaping and dock area make a great first impression. The beds were very comfortable. The bath fixtures and bathrooms are also in great condition and beautiful. We were very pleased with the location and proximity to restaurants and grocery stores. The marina (Bridgewater) was super close and convenient. We rented a nice pontoon boat for the week and were able to dock it at this property along with our two jet skis. The outside porch areas were well furnished and in great shape. Each night our family of 10 gathered outside on the upper porch to eat dinner or on the lower porch to enjoy the beautiful fire pit and seating area. I can't say enough good things about the property and host. Scott and Meredith communicated great, were very responsive and friendly and made the checking in and out process so easy. They made us feel completely welcome. We have typically vacationed at Norris Lake in Tennessee but I think Smith Mountain Lake and this property are our new favorites. We will definitely return to this property!
