The Neighborhood:
Northport has always been a favorite vacation spot for Michigan and the lower states. Set on Grand Traverse Bay (with a modernized marina) it is just two miles west to Lake Michigan, site of countless beautiful sunsets. And the surrounding area? Grapes, cherries, apples! It’s a wonder to behold in the spring and in the fall. So whether you’re into biking, boating, sailing, wine tours or just hanging out on the beach, Northport is really something special.

Getting Around:
Northport is located in one of the most beautiful areas in the country, amid vineyards and cherry and apple orchards, right on Grand Traverse Bay and only two miles east of Lake Michigan. Along with a newly refurbished marina and swimming beach, a new 9-hole golf course, a micro-brewery, a wine-tasting room and several new restaurants, the town also boasts a strong artistic presence and a healthy farm-to-table culture.

Nearby attractions include Sleeping Bear Dunes, named by ABC’s Good Morning America as “The Most Beautiful Place in America.”

27 miles south is Traverse City, home of Michael Moore’s annual Film Festival, and ranked among the best “foodie” cities in the country. Ten miles south is the Leelanau Sands Casino, owned by the native American Anishabeck. Twelve miles away is Leland, and historic Fishtown. Just two miles north is the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula, and Leelanau State Park, complete with campground, hiking trails, and a lighthouse.

Northport is probably the best kept secret on the peninsula. While other towns have become tourist meccas, Northport retains its small-town character. The year-round population of 600 continues pretty much as they have since the town was first founded by French explorers. And while the summertime brings a surge in the populace, there’s still plenty of space for pursuing all the outdoor activities northern Michigan is known for.

Nothing can beat the location. All the restaurants and shops are within walking distance. Granted there is one disadvantage. If you're one to turn in early then the music from the bar across the street may be disturbing. The room was very nice with its high ceilings. The amenities are much appreciated. My only criticism is the lack of electrical outlets by the nightstands. There were enough around the couch and the TV itself but not by the beds. Its only a problem if you have CPAP machine that needs to get plugged in for use. I appreciated that there was an elevator to the the second floor. Although the microwave was outside the room, the fact that plates and utensils were provided was very helpful. Overall enjoyed my stay and will likely return.

The property location is convenient. Im reluctant to give this place a review. We used to be able to go up there for the peace and tranquility. Every year it gets busier and busier. It seems that people come out of nowhere to fill the restaurants and coffee shops but thats good for the businesses. Things do die down late evening. We still love going up there. Where else can you go and have everything in short walking distance. Toms grocery store is right next door. There is at least 6 places to eat in this small town. We made it to NPG, Fingers Crossed, Mitten Pizza, Bohemian Cafe' (excellent coffee shop and good breakfast) Yard & Lake. Y & L is newer and still needs to iron some things out. Beautiful bar area and small spaces that people love but due to staffing maybe, people show up and are shooed away because they are going to clise in 20 minutes kind of thing. We werent able to go to Faro because they werent open during the time we were at the inn. But we do need to experience it. A cool 9 hole golf course is darn near a walk away. Was worth the visit. Its Northport Creek. Bahle Farms GC, glad we played it, is maybe 15 to 20 minute drive away. There are plenty of wineries, distilleries, craft breweries and cider mills all scattered around the peninsula and worth checking out. From sunrises to sunsets this place is hard to beat. But please, dont visit, because we dont want it to get anymore touristy busy than it is. Had to throw that line in there.

Northport Inn was very clean and nice. Not much in the town. But I think we were a little early for the season.
