About this Property
Built in 1780 by Captain John Harper, Prince of Wales House exhibits all the artistry and craftsmanship of homes of that era. Located between Prince Street and Wales Alley, it's among a collection of centuries-old residences nicknamed Captain’s Row, a nod to the sea captains that resided there when Alexandria was a bustling commercial port. This block is located in one of the most beloved (and most photographed) sectors of Old Town.
Step into your home away from home and enjoy an interior that’s been professionally designed from top to bottom, balancing historical charm with modern touches. You’ll feel transported to yesteryear in this home, with its quirky, uneven floors and winding staircases, coupled with the comfort of luxurious furnishings, marble bathrooms, and high-end appliances. This property’s distinctive architecture and features stand in stark contrast to today’s cookie-cutter homes—it truly is one of a kind! Antique hardwood floors, built-ins, and detailed crown molding add an elegant touch to the home’s character-filled living spaces.
The living room, complete with a wood-burning fireplace and TV, has been outfitted with a chic, full-size bar. Pull up a bar stool and gather with friends for a cocktail or a glass of wine. Or head into the dining room, a true showpiece oozing traditional style. Plan a dinner party or holiday gathering with up to 10 guests in this beautifully appointed space. In the fully-equipped galley kitchen, you’ll notice recessed lighting, high-end appliances, and plenty of cabinetry.
The master bedroom is a peaceful space to rest and recharge. It boasts a king-size bed with luxurious bedding, a decorative fireplace, and a newly remodeled en-suite marble bathroom. The spacious second bedroom also has a king-sized bed dressed in the finest linens, as well as a settee to relax on while reading a book or enjoying a cup of coffee.
Head to the library, a warm, contemplative space for small gatherings or quiet moments. With the rich green walls, leather furnishings, and antique décor, it’s like stepping back in time. This room doubles as an extra bedroom and has a sleeper sofa, comfortable chairs, and a TV.
Finally, in the third-floor loft space, you’ll find the fourth guest bedroom, a whimsical place to hang out for the younger guests in your group. With low ceilings (6’5”) and a unique layout, this fun space features a queen-size daybed with a pull-out trundle and a separate twin daybed, accommodating up to four. It also features a newly remodeled full bathroom.
Get some fresh air in the lovely walled garden, featuring a cozy brick patio with lush landscaping, a gas grill, and stylish outdoor furniture. A Japanese maple tree stands as the patio’s centerpiece—it turns a brilliant red hue in the fall months.

The PoW house was PERFECT for our first family granddaughter visit. Three of us stayed in house (two premium bedrooms) although our other 2 1/2 fam could easily have stayed in 3rd floor room/bath. Next time!
The house was so clean and comfortable for gathering.

I have stated in many cribs before, but this will rank top on the list! Great location and great house with literally anything you would ever need. Our three generation family of 7 ranging in age from 10 months to 68, stayed in the house for 4 nights over Memorial Weekend 2024. Our youngest daughter was married nearby at the Carlyle House. This lovely home is within walking distance to the Potomac waterfront in Old Town near all the shops and restaurants in the historic area. The house is fully appointed, meeting our every need and expectation. From the beautifully decorated dining area to the gracious courtyard, full kitchen, laundry, extra comfortable bedrooms and beautifully upgraded baths, we were able to relax before and after the wedding in complete luxury and comfort. We are so grateful to Posh Abodes for making our daughter’s wedding extra special, from the sparking wine awaiting in the entrance hall to the beautiful floral arrangement on the dining room table, we felt welcomed, appreciated and at ease. We highly recommend this amazing property! .

I can’t say enough about our visit to the Prince of Wales House! Communication with Melissa was exceptional from check in to check out. A bottle of champagne and fresh flowers greeted us, as did a beautifully appointed house and spa like bathrooms. Attention to detail was perfection, and very very clean!
The neighborhood was decked out with Halloween decorations, which our grandchildren loved…it was an event in itself!
Old Town is delightful and great shopping and dining are in walking distance. This was our favorite house by far.
Thank you to Melissa and the rest of your team!!!

The photos say it all about this magnificent house in Old Town Alexandria. Gorgeous decor, spacious and comfortable. Ideally located in the center of everything old town. Excellent parking for our camper van, and there was still room for another car. The house has a concierge assigned to it, and Melissa was wonderful, available 24/7 but never intrusive. A real gem. Well worth a stay here!
