About this apartment rental
The Thomas McLin House.
A prominent local Coppersmith and merchant built this home for his daughter in 1822. While visiting New Bern stay in this historic 2 story federal style Apartment.
During the Great Fire of New Bern in 1922 the roof burnt, however the home was luckily able to be repaired and expanded in the federal style as two townhouse style apartments, as it remains today. The heart pine wood flooring outlines the original 1822 floor plan, while the 1922 upstairs addition constructed after the devastating great fire has southern yellow pine wood flooring. The original 1822 fireplace mantel remains, and the antique light fixtures make you feel as though you’ve been transported back in time.
You will be located within a short walk to many amentities such as shopping, restrauants, museums, and marinas. We are located 2 blocks from the historic Tryon Palace main gate and a couple more blocks from the NC History Museum. Whether you are touring the historical streets and sites of one of North Carolina’s colonial capitals or enjoying the neighborhood coffee shop, hunting for treasures at one of the many antique shops, taking a day trip to the beach, exploring coastal Carolina, or enjoying the micro-brewery a few blocks away, this is a convenient and great location to call home while you are visiting.
Welcome.

A great place to stay, close to downtown and union point park (location of event).

We love to stay at the Thomas McLin historic house. It's perfectly located to explore downtown New Bern as well as the many other neighborhoods. The hosts have a beautiful and comfortable home.

We really enjoyed New Bern. We ate on the water front, took morning walks through town and enjoyed local coffee shops.

We went to New Bern to visit (and meet) our newest grandchild! My daughter and her family live in the marina, so we needed a nice, close place to sit and visit. The house was lovely. Very spacious and so pleasant. The bedrooms are especially nice. It was a nice touch to have some puzzles for the 5 year old to play with. We would definitely stay again!

Great place and location to stay. Hosts were great.

Overall stay was good, the property was as described. The location was great for walking and the neighbors were friendly. The only negative is the house had only one television and it was downstairs. Would have been nice to have televisions in the bedrooms.

Property was lovely and in very good condition considering age of home…. Great for a family. Enjoyed our stay very much… close too everything.

Everything was great except the stairs. At our age it becomes difficult. Thanks

It's a nice location. The home is older, is well maintained, and has been lightly redecorated and remodeled. There are stairs to the second floor. The place was clean and comfortable with a full kitchen, Keurig coffee service and washer/dryer. They keep a folder of handy information like I've seen in many rentals. Their living room couch is micro fiber, which came in handy because I spilled a little wine cooler on a cushion and it cleaned up and was dry in seconds. Cleaning up to leave was pretty easy. We stripped the beds and left them next to the washer, did the dishes, wiped stuff down and took out the trash. All the normal courtesies - took about 20 minutes. The downtown New Bern area is super! There's good walking and some fun stuff to see and do. It was a pleasant stay, thank you!

We had such a nice stay. The location was perfect. This was a last minute trip and Jennifer was so kind to help me make a reservation after the deadline and offered recommendations for both casual and fine dining. The home was lovely.

The property is well maintained and convenient. Being from northern New England we are not used to not being able to open the windows for fresh air, yet we understand why it's done. The house is well equipped in the kitchen and very comfortable. We will consider it again in the future. Thanks for everything. Paul.

My wife and I stayed for three nights in mid-March.
Comms was good with hosts. Only complaint is the front door handle was broken. Hosts advised me day before we arrived. Not ideal but they fixed it the next day…our only complaint.
Location is good for Palace, river and historical walk. Left of property is graveyard. Would advise not going further left. All else is excellent. 10-15 mins stroll to downtown, which is really good.
Loads of bars/eateries. River front is lovely. Nice for walks, clean and safe. Historical houses around property & downtown are fascinating. Lovely just strolling around.
Property has everything you need. Lots of space. Nice touch with coffee pods.
All in all a v good time. Would stay again.

We were scouting out area as a possible retirement area. The house was great and we loved the town.

Attempt to cover old house smell with strong cinnamon scent made breathing hard and house inhabitable for a second night. I am mildly asthmatic and both of us were bothered with smell. Bedroom windows covered with installed interior sheets of glass so ventilation impossible. This may be illegal as escape from second floor seriously impeeded in case of emergency.
Couch (sink to back) and bed (sink to center) very uncomfortable... no support. Outlet in kitchen overloaded with power strip ... trips fuse when using coffee machine and microwave used at same time. We erred in not contacting Air B&B customer service. They would have covered 2nd night stay in a hotel and getting our money back from the owners. We contacted owners requesting a refund and received refund of about 1/3 of cost of 2nd night we did not use.
Not recommended!

Second year!! Wonderful location and excellent communication with hosts!! We definitely be back!

decent place to stay, not upscale at all, but if you need a place to crash while your spending all your time elsewhere, its pretty good. Checkin Process smooth with good communication. But overpriced IMO due to VRBO fees, cleaning fees, and location and overall property.

The location was perfect and so was the house. Our kids loved the bunk bed room and the wonderful selection of books and games. We were steps away from Tryon Palace and tons of local spots. We hope to come back and visit, soon. Thanks, Jen and Ben! :)

Staying in this rental was like experiencing living in a long past time. The apartment was as advertised. All our needs were met. The one drawback was we were never able to get on Wi-Fi despite two unsuccessful attempts to contact the owners. The highlight of our three-night stay was the 90-minute trolley tour, which we highly recommend. New Bern is a quaint town, and staying at the McLin House enhanced our visit.

This house has some amazing history and they did a great job maintaining the original structural integrity of the home. The house is in a great location and is stocked with everything you need and more! My kids loved playing with the puzzles and blocks and reading the books on the bookshelf. We are so happy we found this place for our short visit to New Bern!

We were visiting the area as I was meeting with a real estate agent. The home is an easy walk to the downtown area and on a nice quiet street. Very comfortable and quite lovely inside. Pleasant back yard to sit in and enjoy. I did travel with my elderly parents so the steep staircase was a poor choice on my part, but everything else was great and the kitchen is well equipped.

It was a wonderful stay in a historic home. The owners took it upon themselves to make sure there were things we could use such as bath soap and laundry detergent it was a great touch. It was clean and comfy. A great spot for a weekend getaway!

The home was perfect for a weekend trip with my girl friend. We parked our car on the street near the home on Friday afternoon and never moved it till we got in the car Sunday to leave. Easy walk to Tryon Palace - right down the street. Pleasant walk to wonderful places to eat dinner. The home was clean and had everything we needed.

The McLin house is spacious, inviting, comfortable and only blocks from downtown New Bern. Street parking was ample and we were able to park right in front of the house. Lovely and quiet back porch and yard. Thank you!
