A beautiful resort with spectacular grounds and pool.

The Royal Sonesta was AMAZING!! The resort was so beautiful. The staff was extremely friendly. The food was amazing. The beach was beautiful. The resort was quiet and comfortably isolated so you felt very relaxed, yet it was within walking distance of a quaint little shopping district where you could get food, drinks, and gifts. We will absolutely return here!

Grounds were amazing! Pool and views were 5 star also.

Our 3 night stay was great! The renovations didn’t bother us at all, as they weren’t doing work on them during the day. The breakfast staff at the pool every morning was wonderful. Our room was clean and had a beautiful ocean view. There were always plenty of chairs by the pool and beach and wait staff was on top of it! We will definitely stay again!

Royal sonesta was amazing! I love their delicious food options in the morning!

Surprise Extra charge of $30 for self-parking wasn’t cool. Construction on hot tubs was loud early around 9 am and housekeeping loud and woke us up knocking at 8 when checkout was noon. Overall huge disappointment for the $800 price nightly. Ocean view upgrade was $50 and was an eastern bay, dock view.

The property was nice and the staff. Wasn’t sure to use complimentary tabs or if there was a charge for them. Didn’t use my birthday drink voucher because they weren’t available to use until 11 and I was already on with my days for adventure and sad didn’t use prior to leaving back home. One thing I was disappointed with was the cleanliness of the room. It appears clean but I’ve found two roaches in the room roaming near the tv and bedding area so my nights were restless having to wake up every now and then to be sure nothing else was crawling on me. Pest treatments are recommended to change my mind in the future for rating . My “upgrade” promised an ocean view from previous selection for $50 more a night I got a side view and main focal point was the pool area. My friends were asked about upgrades to their rooms too. Just be sure to double check what you pay extra for prior to agreeing . Parking near our tower was limited so you got lucky if you got a spot. They do provide more space but it is a distant for us and down hill. Wristband as room keys were beneficial for the trip and waterproof so didn’t have to worry about losing any keys. My ratings were all necessary for this trip.

Construction going on limited food choices and seating at pool!

Only complaint about the resort was they had construction going on.
4.0 / 5.0
I liked how centralized it was in the island. Convenient to get anywhere you wanted to go. Also the easy access to both the pool and beach. Restaurants were good as well. However the property was under construction shutting down half the jacuzzi’s and restaurant next to the pool. The biggest complaint would be with the room. The tv hardly worked and then finally broke the last night. Plus the noise from the hallway! At night and in the early morning you could hear all doors opening and closing. Voices and footsteps echoed under our door into the room. Overall it’s a very nice property and we had a good time.

Crooks scam people out of an addition 400.00 plus another 96.02. Horrible staff cashier number #8393. Not good. Would Never recommend anyone go to this hotel ever!

The hotel property is beautiful and well-kept. Some construction was going on during our stay, but it wasn't disruptive. The hotel did a good job accommodating the remodeling of a restaurant by putting up an outdoor seating area near the pool.
The staff was very welcoming and friendly. We had access to most services. We would recommend taking advantage of everything that goes into the resort fees (free appetizers, a few drinks, discounted activities, etc). The rooms are comfortable and clean. The interior of the rooms and hallways looked updated.

Overall hotel is not a 4 star, more like a 3.
The beach is beautiful & rooms are clean. The pool and other facilities are outdated, 2 out of 4 hot tubs were in construction. the two that were open were dirty.
Drilling and dust right into the pool. Not a relaxing environment.
The room view is an old roof. They should add vegetation to help improve the experience.
Some of the staff was friendly, while others left a lot to be desired.
Resort fee get’s you old towels and old chairs.
Hotel isn’t worth the money. I asked for a discount due to construction, they waved one day of resort fee, not enough after a long flight and an underwhelming experience.

Lovely hotel. I’ve stayed here several times. The first in 1980 when it was Kauai Surf, then the Westin 1992, then the Marriott and now Royal Sonesta. Wonderful location and staff!
5.0 / 5.0
4.5 Stars overall, only because there was construction and it’s hard to give a full five stars.
Facility was overall clean. The room was super clean and neat, pool was amazing. Walkable to the beach and the public beach was clean and was never crowded when we were there. We’ve seen the beach calm and a couple of days were very choppy but beautiful nonetheless.
There were stores and restaurants that were walkable. And we had a car and drove out when we wanted.
Staff was super friendly. The girl from front desk was very accommodating. And every time we picked up the phone for information or to request for some thing, they were very accommodating as well.
Will definitely come back next year.

If it had had enough parking lots, that would have been much better experience. Facilities and breakfast are excellent. This is my second opportunity to visit Kauai, this staying experience will make me go to Kauai again, even more longer stay I will have. Thank you for hosting us.

The hotel was beautiful & rooms were nice & clean. However, our room was only cleaned every other day & we ran out of toilet paper & towels. My son stepped on glass in the pool which cut his foot. He went under the water & found a handful of glass pieces on the bottom of the pool. The pool could have been a bit cleaner. I know this all sounds bad, but I would stay at this property again.

The staff was friendly and accommodating. The grounds were kept clean and landscape was very lush. The rooms could be cleaned a bit more thoroughly between guests. Otherwise great stay for the price.

Beautiful property with a lot of options for recreation. Our room was always clean and cool. The food at the nearby restaurants was delicious. The location is centralized enough t that driving To other places on the island was a breeze. Can’t wait to return!

Parking was an issue

The hotel was under renovation. I like the fact that they are updating and maintaining the hotel. However, this caused 2 of the 3 restaurants to be closed and a temporary “restaurant “ was opened by the pool. The staff was amazing and the hotel was clean. However, the beach is a public beach which we didn’t realize. The beach itself was not real clean. There was even a homeless individual living in a tent at the one end of the beach.

The setting of the hotel as well as the garden with the koi pond were spectacular. Lots of options for good food within walking distance. The staff was very friendly and courteous. The pool was amazing. Loved it all.

Believe when a resort is under construction (pool area, front desk, other) it should be required to notify guest prior. When we checked in we couldnt hear the desk clerk due to the noise, the pool was a quarter closed due to construction. Realize it is an older resort that needs constant up keep but also it is my vacation dollars that keep it open.

Property is being renovated which limits full accesss. Otherwise, this is the second time my wife and I visited Royal Sonesta and it never disappoint. This time, I took my big family and they too liked the place. Definitely returning when all the construction is completed.

Great property all around. Would stay here again.

Beautiful resort, but there was a lot of construction going on that I don't think should have been happening during high season of summer. I would have picked a different resort if I knew. Areas by the pool and beach were under construction and that kind of ruined what I saw compared to the web pages. Also, good thing I looked at my final bill, I was charged for 3 days vallet parking, but only used vallet parking the first night. I caught the error at chechout, so it was resolved, but felt stupid for even having to bring it up. 🙂 Also, there is a homeless in his tent right on the beach by Dukes alkng with lots of garbage around his tent.

We had a beautiful ocean view room. During a time of craziness with Delta's major mess up, Royal Sonesta was so very helpful. I would recommend the resort to people visiting. It's proximity to the airport was great.
1.5 / 5.0
The property is dated, but clean. There is a lot of construction going on, so the restaurant is under a tent right now near the beach and the pool, which should go around in a full circle, is partitioned off on one side due to construction and two of the five hot tubs are closed. It’s still nice down there, but just an FYI. The best part of this hotel is the service, which was really great. And while the property is dated, our room was nicely updated.
