The room needs serious renovation. You have to take a shower in the bath but there is no curtain so you can be sure to flood the bathroom every time you take a shower. Everything in the room is very old. The breakfast is terrible. This hotel is really overpriced for the

Absolutely beautiful hotel with a wonderful and caring staff. The staff were always there to help with our luggage, getting a car, or answering any questions we had. The views of the river and mountains were incredible. Breakfast was delicious with many options available, great service from the staff, and amazing views. Overall such a nice experience!

We were lucky enough to get a free room upgrade. All the staff are friendly. The view is spectacular. Highly recommended.

We had a private pool with the river view villa, and it was beautiful. The villa was cleaned, great view, and amazing customer service. The staff are always friendly and will do whatever they can to accommodate your needs. Our water is always stocked, and when we need extra, they bring you extras. On top of that, you have your own dedicated butler that you can easily call by dialing #3 on your villa's phone.
The free breakfast buffet was amazing, especially compared to the free breakfast that these American hotels offer. Personally, Kupu Kupu Barong set the standard for free breakfast at a very high level for me now.
If we go back to Bali, we will definitely stay here again.

Villa 28 is Amazing !
Spectacular view and all the team are so accommodating.
I would definitely return and recommend Kupu Kupu Barong.

We stayed in one of the River View Villas which was lovely. Amazing view and lovely plunge pool. The hotel itself was a little lacking in facilities and a little tired in areas. I was very disappointed that despite it being a L'Occitane hotel, the actual L'Occitane shop had no products available during our stay.

The hotel needs urgent maintenance and cleanless.

Our stay at kupu kupu barong was beyond amazing. We were stunned at how wonderful our room was (with its own plunge pool) and loved the very friendly staff. We only ate at the restaurant once for dinner which was pretty good, the breakfast buffet had a good variety but f Balinese and “western” food. But the best part of our stay was our butlers Sugi and Sumadi, not to mention the gentlemen I called “everywhere guy” because he was always there when we needed him (I’m so sorry I forgot your name). They were both friendly and attentive. They predicted our requests, offered great tips and went above beyond for our needs. I can’t wait to have an excuse to go back.

A charming and exotic property full of atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the villas were fun with great views.

5* service in a 3* hotel in terms of the decor and need for maintenance. BUT staff wonderful. Nevertheless cannot ignore need for considerable investment to update property.

The internet never worked. The room that was given to us smelt like mold. After inspecting, we found mold. The food options was not good. The staff was nice, thats the only good thing i could say about the place. Not worth staying at. It ruined out trip even though we made thw best of it.

Got a moldy room, pillow was mildew smelling, bed left us sore. Food was not the best.
Pool was sad.
Advertised there was a hottub but there wasnt.
Room was not clean.

The staff were wonderful and couldn't do enough to make you feel welcome. The rooms are beautiful and spotless, but are a bit frayed around the edges due to wear and tear. The breakfasts are superb also. This hotel is built on a slope though so there are many stairs to navigate, although you can get a buggy from your room to reception if required. Dinner and cocktails were great and the tandoori restaurant does a brilliant curry. We booked a private tour around the area with the hotel and it was just brilliant also. The hotel also has a daily shuttle into the centre of Ubud. But really, the staff at the hotel made our holiday very special. Oh and I forgot to mention their complimentary afternoon tea. Perfect.

Vert nice location, very quiet and friendly staff. A lot of animals and not the most modern hotel. But probably one of the best in Ubud.

Wonderful - great location peace and tranquility. Staff go above and beyond call of duty - very nice to see. Although a bit on the expensive side - worth it

The surroundings are stunning but it’s the staff that makes this place even more beautiful. Every single staff member has made us feel welcomed and very special. We will definitely return

Wow what an amazing experience. We got the river view villa with a infiniti pool (rm#35) and it was above and beyond our expectations! We cancelled our plans for the day just to stay and enjoy our room! The room even came with a butler (named Tukey) who went above and beyond to make our stay a lovely experience. Whenever we return to Ubud we would definitely want to stay here again.

I had high expectations about this hotel and unfortunately it was bad for me. Rooms are very old and not as the pictures. I did not enjoy my stay there.

If you don’t mind rats/mice in your room. Please help yourself! The hotel is located close to a ricefield. Rats likes rice. They also seem to like runnuing around on the roof and getting into the houses. We also had some encounters in the restaurants. So just be aware if this is not your thing.

Start off by saying, I booked a villa for 3 nights and relied on the photos for my booking.
When arriving to the hotel the staff was very nice and friendly. We were taken to our villa and our room didn't quite look like what we booked, we were tired and ended up sleeping. The next morning I contacted the staff about our room and asked why we stayed in a room that we didnt pay for, and they replied with saying that the room we booked wasnt available and we had to contact the hotel before our arrival to make sure we are staying at the room we paid for/ LOL WHATT??? The villa we stayed at was a 50 dollar difference a night then the one we paid for. I ended up asking for a refund and leaving after one night to a different hotel.
Overall, this hotel wasn't for us. Ive never had an issue with booking a hotel and ending up staying at a different room then what we paid for.

We’ve felt like royals since the very beginning we got at Kupu Kupu. The place is amazing, but it’s the people working there, working for you, who are the difference. They care about you 360 degrees. I totally suggest to stay in Kupu Kupu Barong. It’s peaceful and romantic. The room we got was massive and cleaned. The bath tub and shower could be cleaner, but it’s fine.
I remind you, you’re in the middle of the forest. There are animals. You usually don’t see them (except for 2 nice birds living free range in the hall area), but you will hear them. Especially roosters in the early morning. It hasn’t been a problem for us at all. It was part of the romantic side. The restaurant (where you also have breakfast) was very good and the view from there is unique!
If we get back to Ubud someday, we’ll definitely stop by Kupu Kupu Barong again.

It has become nearly impossible to expect a standard level of service with common sense in ultra-touristy Ubud....unless you pay $250+ a night USD. This place isn't great. Don't book it expecting standard service.

I loved the stone and relief art overgrown with green throughout the property. I did get lost my first time exploring as there are many pathways. It wasn’t very obvious where the other two restaurants were, so I ended up at La View when I did opt for hotel dining. This place clearly was created with thought and detail, respecting culture and tradition. It’s ready for a little detail renovation to modernize certain areas like the bathroom. Overall, pleased with my stay. I do wish the shuttle service to/from Ubud ran longer but taxi is always available.

Our villa, pool and views were spectacular, but what exceeded my expectations was the service from every staff member at Kupu Barong - they all were very friendly and were always willing to go above and beyond the usual role to keep their guests happy.
