8/10 would be 10/10 if had GF beer.
Nice room and staff. Good GF food selection, important for me.

We stayed in the adjoining building, the shower was grubby, mould in the corner, soap dish was rusty, the room wasn’t very clean, wouldn’t stay in those rooms again, my partner said the spa was first class, & the main building was clean

If you are sleeping here I would ensure you take ear plugs and a portable air con!
It is a shame as the staff are very polite and helpful. Food was OUTSTANDING!
The gym was in good condition and well maintained and cleaned.
However, the room was like a sauna and when I opened the window there was some form of generator outside my window pumping more hot air in and the perpetual hum whilst trying to sleep was not the most amazing experience!
When I walked out of my room in the morning the hall was cooler than my room! But on the positive, I had an amazing breakfast before I left

Staff were very friendly, used my first name which made the experience personal. Breakfast is great, one of the best I have ever had. I had a classic double room and it was comfortable and beautifully decorated

Outstanding staff - friendly, helpful and fun!
Food generally very good, but not always piping hot.
Lovely premises and gardens.
Nice decor in the room - but the standard double bed too small.
Had a very enjoyable stay and would definitely return.

We can't say enough about the property. The staff was the best! And the spa is awesome. The TV's could be updated so that guests can plug in a fire stick but other than that the place is perfect.

Staff were exceptional. I really liked that throughout my 4 night stay that the staff remembered my name and were really friendly and helpful. Any issue I had was quickly rectified. I reserved a Superior Double room. On Check in to my room I noticed it was a Classic Double (as advertised on their website). I queried this and was given a Superior Room quickly.
Bathrooms were out of place, the two rooms I had did not reflect a 4 star status. Quite basic and there was no room to place any of my toiletries in the bathroom. Need a shelf please!
Breakfast was delicious, I love the freshly cooked to order selection and the yogurt and fresh fruit (strawberries, blueberries and blackberries) were especially my favourite from the buffet.
Agree with other reviews, coffee at breakfast is not the best!

Loud music playing until 1am on a Tuesday. Reception was not helpful when complaining about the noise. No good for a week time business trip.
Otherwise staff were very nice and the hotel has a nice charm.

Was very disappointed to find out on arrival that the spa was at extra cost £50 for 2 hours and required booking. This is not clear on this website and was the whole reason we booked this hotel. The hotel itself was very charming and the staff were friendly. This websites needs to state the spa is at extra cost and requires booking, I booked multiple rooms and must say we were all extremely disappointed given the price

The staff were so friendly and the room was lovely x

Delightful old building however that doesn’t excuse the poor state we found our room in.
Basically the room was unkept dirty carpet, lots and lots of cob webs spanning over 3ft and a net removed and not replaced in the bathroom.
Could not get a taxi due to the location and we felt the property was over priced.
Positive the staff where made aware of all
issues and tried to resolve.

Had one night at Ye Olde Bell Hotel & Spa. From the outside it looks nice. Check in was quick, room seemed okay, it's a very very old building but that can also some times be nice (if it is fairly well kept). That is not the case here. Window in bathroom couldn't close fully + glass was broken. Drain in bath was clogged. Service at dinner in restaurant was ridiculous. There were 3 tables with guests in the restaurant and the male waiter was so busy talking with the guests at one table, that it was close to impossible to order anything. He was so ignorant that it was unbelievable. I normally never write reviews but this experience was just too much and I must admit that I stay at many hotels and do experience a lot. This place could actually be nice if a little more money would be spent on maintenance (fix things when they are broken - thank you) and have a waiter that actually care about the guests and not are busy caring only about himself.

We were extremely disappointed to discover only after booking that, despite being advertised on the Expedia Website as having pool & spa, that we were not allowed to use these facilities. We booked this hotel believing that we might have a swim/sauna on arrival and perhaps again before departure. On enquiry directly with the Spa we were told we could book a 2 hour session before we left for a very significant cost.
If you are advertising these facilities on your website it needs to be clearer that the spa is not generally available for residents to use.

Had a business stay for one night. Lovely meal and helpful staff. Unfortunately I had booked a business stay on valentines night and there was a live band playing. Being on the first floor, the music from the band was loud enough to be heard in my room. Followed by a lot of noise afterwards which sounded like furniture moving around for quite a while , so this kept me awake for some time. Fully understand that events happen but clearly the rooms aren’t very well sound proofed. Knowing the event was happening I would have booked somewhere else. Otherwise room was lovely and staff were helpful. Breakfast was lovely , good choice and high quality.

Love this 400 year old hotel. I have stayed here before years ago and nothing has changed, which is good. Food is still great and Spa is great way to relax for an afternoon!

The room was very old and dated, the shower wasn’t clean and the bedside lamp was broken so wouldn’t recommend staying here

Ye Olde Bell was excellent. My room and bathroom were very comfortable. The restaurant was good and the service was first class. I took a look at the Spa which seemed very popular. I will stay again.

Property was very nice but a little tired. Needsattention in places like bathrooms where things like the shower doors broken, cracks on joints, cobwebs in corners.

The property is an old building and as such the corridor floors are very noisy. The room we had was a Deluxe, which was spacious and had a very large on-suit, with a role top bath and separate shower.
We booked in on a Sunday to Tuesday, and we’re unaware that the Sunday food menus is not as good as the menu for the rest of the week, and not prepared by the resident chef. The restaurant 166, we visited on Monday evening was good and food well prepared. A lot better than Sunday evening.
Of course, the jewel in the crown was the Spar. We enjoyed three hours, and a treatment, very good, and well worth a second visit.

Excellent Service in every area, Staff and Manager very helpful.
The Dining table was set beautifully, the three course Sunday lunch menu had a good choice to suit everyone and we even had our own little dining room which meant we didn’t have to worry about the grandchildren disturbing other diners.
Simon looked after our every need all afternoon he was a Star.

Really lovely hotel.
Great food, lovely room, nice bit of music round the back at night - unfortunately the spa was full for the 4 days we were there so if you want treatments- book ahead.
The first night we struggled with the firm pillows but we asked for feathers and they were changed on day 2 which was great.
Super Convenient for travel as it’s only a few mins off the A1.

The room was quite hot and stuffy even with the windows wide open. It was about 22 degrees during the day and about 15 at night. The air con units outside the window were also very loud so sleep was broken.Staff were very friendly, despite a mix up where I was charged for the more expensive wine on the list even after questioning it. I would stay here again, but check when the spa is open before you go as it was closed for my trip.It also costs £70 per day per person to use the spa, so it is not included in the room price.

The little self contained cottages are really cute and safe with private front door. I was surprised we were given one of them because I’d got such a good rate on here.. think we just got lucky because of the restrictions. The meal times were very short, breakfast 7-8am and dinner was only served until 8pm. My husband wasn’t due to arrive until nearly 10pm so I had to order cold options (which were limited) and get them to wrap it. They were extremely helpful with this but the food was overpriced but I couldn’t find any other options for the area so had no choice. Food was delivered to the door with a safe handover. The spa looks great and it will be nice to go back when it’s all open properly. We were visiting family but there’s not a great deal to do in the area but good if you want a few days break. We got a great rate, the staff were really helpful and the room we got was lovely so the change of scenery was much appreciated. We will be back!
