Awesome Time!! We really Enjoyed the view !!!

Hotel is really nice for a weekend getaway, great location. Nice pool and amenities. We really like this hotel and have stayed here a few times. This last trip I plugged my cell phone cord into the USB wall outlet to charge my phone and it completely fried my phone. Don't know if this is just a weird one off incident but nevertheless I needed to go buy a new phone after plugging it in here.

I wasn't expecting much from the hotel but I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the rooms were. They also offered breakfast from 730-930 in the mornings.

Best location and beautiful decor. Rooms are super comfy and spacious. Parking is easy and hotel is just steps from my favorite beach

It’s out little beach home. We love it here!!!! Been coming for years!!!

Great time, we barbecued by the pool enjoyed the grounds, great spot beach, restaurant and coffee shop and sandwich shop block away no need to go anywhere for a few days. Awesome whale watching. Staff super friendly đź‘Ś

Unfortunately the management & property managers were so unprofessional. There was an unexpected power outage that happened approximately at 10 pm . Out of any ones control we tried to wait it out . With two elderly that depend on Cpap to sleep and an autistic 5 year old and a 1.5 year old we figured it would be a temporary inconvenience… why fuss . 730 comes around , no charge on phone .. car a sleepless night we are ready for a dry convince breakfast ( one of the reason I chose the hotel . Along with charging station and pool .. so ok 7:30-9:30 no breakfast.. or communications … ok let’s not let that worry us Says power will be on till noon . We pack up for the beach early !! Finally make contact with staff , after her complaining to me about having to close and open and she is never gonna change shifts again … I let her know please let us know if you hear anything told her the severity of my circumstances. 2 night stay thinking something should happen they should try to call us and somehow let us know that we need to find other stay because the power now says it will not be on till 6 pm . I make contact with them again ask them is there somewhere where they can send us .. they do not The amenities that I was looking for in the other but it has electricity!! Well needless to say no response from management about charges .. I am still in the dark wondering how I ended up paying double . Needles to I am still in the dark with the Especially whole circumstances.

The hotel is very nice and clean. The staff was super friendly. The complimentary breakfast was good. The only issue I had and it’s not the hotels fault, was the amount of kids running around the back and the pool area. There were scooters and all sorts of sports equipment laying around. There were empty Caprice Sun juice boxes everywhere. The noise sounded like a school yard during recess. Someone was also setting off fireworks 4:00 in the morning setting off car alarms. I might try the hotel again on a non-Summer vacation day when there are less kids running a muck.

Great location, clean, and nice to have complimentary breakfast included. The rooms are dated and could use some upgrades. Walls are thin--can hear the neighbors--yikes. Nice to have a kitchen in the room BUT there were no utensils or plates/bowls, etc. Time to either stock the kitchen or remove the kitchen.

Excellent stay for my family. We will be going once a year. The location, staff, and amenities are great. Love the pool and beach
I don't think there was air conditioning in the room only a fan, so it was hard to sleep at night due to being warm. This is an easy fix for my future stay.
4.2
The location is fabulous but the amenities were lacking. Without a working AC unit the room got rather hot even with the windows open.
4.2
Bed was super comfortable. I enjoyed having a little patio area to sit outside. The rooms do not have AC, and my room felt a bit warm and stuffy. I could open the sliding doors to cool it off, except at night. The location is a short walk to the beach. Not much soundproofing between floors, but they have quiet time starting at 10pm.

While still part of the package, the breakfast is a fraction of what it was several years ago: no more eggs (except for hard-boiled), no more bacon or sausage, no more yogurt, and no more fruit except for bananas on our last morning. On our first full day, we discovered that the lock on the sliding glass back door wasn't working. We reported it on our second day and then went to the beach. When we returned, the job had yet to be completed and then when it was done later that day, it was hard to engage the new lock without having to just about force it and in so doing, run the risk of breaking something. This was the worst experience that we've ever had at Rio Sands; it's obvious that the owner of the place, Allen Properties, has been cutting corners while trading on the hotel's decent location that's a very short walk from Rio Del Mar Beach; and we won't be returning to Rio Sands anytime soon, which is a shame.

Worst hotel stay in my memory. Kids screaming all over, loud guests, paper thin walls so you can hear every toilet flush in the building. Then was woke up at 7:30am by construction workers shoveling just below my window. The bed had a 70s box spring that sounded like a dying animal every time I moved. The place is very ugly on top of all that, with small crowded rooms. Just loud and ugly.

We booked a family with bunk beds, but they gave me a single king instead, expecting 2 adults, 2 kids to fit with a price of a family suite. The lady at the desk insisted that we booked a king, she didn’t even seem to understand the configuration of her own hotel rooms. When I asked to cancel, she said, she’ll charge us a days stay with cancellation fee. I refused, told her she can’t charge us, and I ended up booking a junior suite through Expedia.
The property is older motel that was renovated quite nicely. The bed and pillows are very comfortable. Smaller bathroom, with good water pressure. There is no elevator, no airconditioner, only a heater. The room was warm at an august night. We had to open the windows which gave us a cool breeze. The property is a less than a block away from a quiet beach. It is surrounded by private homes and feels very homey and safe. I thought the pool was heated but it is not on our stay, very very cold water. Breakfast was waffle, bread, cereal, coffee, juice, and hard boiled eggs.

Hotel was great the only thing they shut off the water . When I was in the shower.
4.2
Loved the pool and spa and walking distance to ocean!
4.2
All in all it was great! Bummer that no one is staffed at night. We had no tp and no blankets for the pull out couch. Also you have to pay a fee to get any items for the kitchen. Kind of pointless and frustrating. Also our key cards kept not working so we had to get like 6 of them for our two night stay. Continental breakfast could use some fruit and pastries.
4.2
The property was in a noisy residential area.
4.2
The overnight staff was very rude! We arrived late and I felt that we were being watched on how many people entered the room however the next morning when the a/c wasn’t working, service was no where to be found. I will never book here again.
4.2
It was nice and clean and peaceful

Our stay was okay, here’s why…
Pros:
Breakfast
Parking
Location, proximity to beach is great.
Cons:
We found a cockroach in our room, gross.
Pool closes at 9PM (Seacliff closes at 10)
Room was very musty smelling.
Very noisy, if your bed is in the front part of the room be prepared to hear people a lot of the night and early morning.
Paying almost $400 a night and finding a cockroach in our room was disgusting.

The Rio Sands is a great hotel. We love that you can just walk to the beach from the hotel.
4.2
We just had to have an upstairs room others thank that all was good!!!
4.2
Everything was good except the tv didn’t work
4.2
Great place for families. Hot tub and beach plus the rooms with kitchens, can’t beat it!
4.2
Perfectly located, friendly atmosphere! Lovely property!

I have stayed many times and it’s my go- to. The only thing I would recommend is adding yogurt or more fruit options to breakfast. The waffles, bananas, cereal and oatmeal was all the same tan-color and taste.
4.2
It was an all around great place to stay.
4.2
Easy access to the beach.
4.2
This is my second time here at the hotel. It is a great place if you have children. Our room was spacious and had a small kitchen. The facilities are great and it’s a very convenient location for the beach. Would highly recommend.

Our family of 5 stayed in the jr suite with 2 queens and a pullout. It was perfect for our family with the youngest being 7. The pullout wasn’t that comfortable but for her it was perfect. The housekeeping avoided our room. Not sure if it was standard because we were a family or if it was them being lazy with their job. I get it. Families at the beach can be messy. But simple essentials would have been appreciated from the time we arrived (I had to ask for 3 towels and wash cloths, they only had two in the room, had to ask for more shampoo and body wash the 1st day. After each day (we stayed 3 nights) I had to put our garbage outside bc they hadn’t been to our room. I’ve also had to ask for more TP. The location is literally down the street from beach. The front office staff and the breakfast person were all fantastic with customer service. The pool and hot tub were nice.

Great location and value

Location and newly renovated room was excellent. Jodie at the front desk made our stay extra special.

We had reservations for 2 nights, however the first night our daughter came down with a severe flu and very high fever. We had to leave early to get her home and to the doctor. I tried to talk to a supervisor before we left but she was late to work. A housekeeper took my information and said she would have her call me. No one called me back. I waited two days. I attempted to ask for a credit or refund with the property but was told I had to go through Expedia. Expedia tried to assist but Rio Sands refused the credit/refund. Rio Sands’ lack of communication was inexcusable. The fact that no supervisor called shows their level of customer service. Our family has been going there for over 20 years but we won’t be back. The property is not only aged but extremely overpriced. We can stay at a VRBO or Air B&B for the same cost or less. All they had to do was call me themselves and explain. I would have understood & accepted it.

We always stay in this hotel because nice quiet location and we have everything what we need in the room.

Nice clean property with good breakfast

really cute property

Very nice little property. The only complaint is it was very hot in the room and no AC. However we do understand that usually it is not needed except during a heat wave. We made it work and it was pleasant.

The room we booked was supposed to have 2 Queens and a full sofa bed, there was only a twin pull out. We had 6 people in our group, which means we would have to put 3 people in 1 of the queens. I tried talking with the lady at the front desk letting her know the room was not what was advertised and we needed a roll away or a different room. She kept saying it was what we booked and that there were no other rooms. I kept showing her the reservation. The parking lot wasnt full and showing rooms online that could fit our needs. There werent rooms at any other hotels near us available that night. I went back to the office to try again, and she was nowhere to be found. I waited for 15 min before another customer showed up. They had waited over an hour to check in earlier and the lady had disappeared on them too. We waited for an hour, even walking the property to try and find her. She finally showed back up at 11:00 (to close the office) and had been drinking. She couldn’t hold a conversation with me and didn’t seem to understand anything I was saying, even tripping over herself. I went back to our room and 3 of us had an awful nights sleep in one bed. BUT, the next morning there was a young man in the office. I explained the situation. He wholeheartedly apologized and easily got rooms that fit our needs. He was so helpful and kind. The property itself was very clean and quiet. The room we ended up in was perfect for families. The breakfast did need more protein options though.
