The building is lovely, bar is nice and food ok but not much choice. Room decor very tired, chunks of plaster falling off. Bathroom dates and damp smell, not sure how often it’s cleaned as small piece of soap in shower been there for ages.

The hotel is very dated. Could do with a makeover.

Room beside the loud kitchen extractor fan

If i start with the positive, I received a friendly welcome.
I was shown to where the rooms are, and thefirst thing that hit me was the smell. Not a pleasant welcome at all. I was directed to my room and after navigating the narrow, creaky stairs and a creaky landing i arrived at my room.
It was not only freezing because i think the window had been left open to manage the smell, but it was also underwhelming, especially given the price of the room.
The creaky floor theme continued, unable to move anywhere in the room without making a racket. The bathroom was tiny, filthy, and the shower had obviously not been cleaned.
Having squeezed past the end of the bed to close the window and reach the one plug socket near the bed, I found a collection of dead flies between the window and the fly screen (of sorts). Though I'm not from the area, I didn't think there were that many flies around at this time of year.
The room comes equipped with a decent ironing board with a good, padded cover (a rarity in most hotels I've stayed at over the years) and a tiny travel iron which offers heat but no steam.
The bed, feeling damp from the cold, was quite comfortable but the pillows were flimsy and lumpy.
With paper thin walls you can hear all tvs in other rooms, people moving about and conversations. So, after a very poor nights sleep I was woken by what sounded like a generator/vent at 430am and unable to get back to sleep.
This is a very tired looking inn. Over priced, and very basic.

Beautiful location right on the river bank. We had 2 nights at this amazing hotel. Our room was large, clean and extremely comfortable. The was a great choice for breakfast. The location is stunning with a large beer garden. The staff are friendly and helpful. They arranged a 6 seater taxi for us into St Ives which is a beautiful town which happened to have a jazz an and blues festival and a food market. The menu offers a good choice of food in this historic pub. We will definitely be retuning. Thank you Ben and the team

Lovely setting. Rooms tired, horrible smell around stairs to bedroom. Very noisy fan noise for a while, may have been above kitchen? Bed comfortable, linen and towels professionally laundered. Just needed a bit of an update.

Lovely spot. Rooms are comfortable if functional. Food was OK with good sized portions but supply issues meant some items unavailable. Some parts of the pub look tired but main bar area cared for. Biggest problem is service. Pub seems to be run with a skeleton crew. This is particularly evident during in breakfast service with one person trying to deal with guests, walk-ins from moored boats and early arrivals for a car meet. Likely kitchen had similar staffing level. Accommodation is value for money but be prepared to wait for service.

Not a very clean hotel lovely location let down by management

It was fine, relatively clean, a bit dated and the breakfast fruit was a bit whithered. No bedside light but the fan was useful.

The table for breakfast was sticky, the knife and forks didnt look clean. The room was so hot, we didnt have any water to drink as the water was warm from taps. Couldnt get a drink from the bar.. cobwebs in the room, brown stain in toilet. Not happy as we were staying there after our wedding.Would never stay there again

Great staff and pub. Rooms are very tired and require some TLC to bring up to spec. Walls of the rooms are not exactly sound proofed so expect to hear your neighbour.
Pleasant food and good menu to choose from.
3.8
Room was smaller than expected but clean and bed was comfortable, shower was blocked so i could only have a very quick shower before water level became too high.
Food in the pub was terrible, came to my table in 10 minutes so obviously frozen produce microwaved.
3.8
In a great setting but quite remote. Staff helpful. Let down by quite tired rooms considering the price for a one night stay. Food good but continental breakfast very basic…simply cereal and juice / hot drink.

Charming old historic country pub with tired but adequate rooms offering standard pub food.

Very friendly and helpful staff, room small slightly tired but comfortable. Bathroom floor uneven and disconcerting at first but this is a very old character inn so to be expected. Similarly the staircase but the steep and short treads will be difficult/possibly dangerous for some, care required. Current delivery problems nationwide had an effect after a busy sunny weekend and several menu choices disappeared but there were always alternatives and we felt it was not the inn's fault - felt more sympathy for the staff having to announce the omissions! Overall we very much enjoyed our stay in a beautiful village

the staff where very friendly but the service at dinner was not acceptable 1hr wait for dinner and as it is situated in the middle of nowhere going somewhere else was not an option ,also menu options was limited ran out of popular choices

Room was very small, bed uncomfortable, have visited several times for a drink so stay was a bit disappointing however the staff were very friendly and sorted out a problem with the rooms water supply quickly. Excellent breakfast.

Room & bathroom very small but adequate for 1 night, long mirror behind main door into bedroom would have been a bonus.

We liked all of it apart from the mould on the windows in room 6

This place, it's staff, it's setting, it's history, it's food, it's all mighty fine. Can't wait to get back and complete the entire menu. Loved it all.

Very nice stay. Good Food in evening & Breakfast excellent. Only problem in room 4, was noise from kitchen extraction fan, which wasn't heard in room 2 by our friends. TV remote control had lost all its figures which made it difficult to operate the TV for menu, timers etc etc. It needs changing. Shower was very good. Being an old building, tyhe floor creaks when walked on in bedroom. Decore was pleasing & room nice & warm. I would use again, but not room 4.

We had the most amazing weekend which was completely made by Toby and the staff. They were so friendly and helpful, giving us advice on walks and places to visit. Beautiful location, log burning fires, beams and mis-matched furniture all combined for a lovely stay! We'll be back.

Staff (Toby) extremely helpful and friendly without being 'pushy'.
Unfortunately they had trouble with the hot water supply but this was qui kly remedied.

My driver stayed on Friday night has just shown me the pictures. Not impressed at all,he actually slept on top of the bed and left at 4am. Sheets stained, cobwebs all over windows, looked like someone had been sick in the sink. I certainly dont expect my drivers to have to put up with this.
