My husband and I stayed for 2 nights where the staff were great.
The room was very spacious, but we found the mattresses that we joined together not good for our backs.
Also, without footwear, I found it difficult to pull the blind and found wooden splints in the rug.
When using the over bath shower, there was only about a third of a curtain, so the water escaped between the bath and basin.on the way to room 12, at nighttime, there were now bulbs in the first and last light fitment.
Also, there was no hairdryer and, although many people would not watch TV, possibly the mostly watched channels BBC and ITV 1 were unavailable.
The price of the accommodation was good value for this area, but £20 for beer battered fish, chips and £12 for the 3 cheese board was rather high, compared to in southern Dorset.
Although there are great staff, because of the accommodation and food prices, we will not be returning.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, the hotel could do with some improvements and the wifi needs to be much better. The food average and the breakfast disappointing.

Excellent food, friendly and efficient staff - rooms average cleanliness (wooden floors, dusty and bathroom average) even though bed linen was spotless.

Very nice hotel - extremely attentive staff. Lots of character. Very comfortable bed. Big bathroom with efficient shower. Because it's an old building, it is a bit shabby in places, but this is in character and doesn't affect one's enjoyment. Food was good - great central location with parking.

Overnight stay. Lively pub.

Amazing place. The locals are above and beyond friendly and welcoming. Pip, Chloe, Harley and the team are the most helpful, friendly and diligent that could possibly be. I would highly recommend. Already booked in for next year!

The Hotel forgot to advise us they would have a 2 day beer festival with live music right next to the room for 2 of the days of our stay. We had live music until 11:30pm for both Saturday and Sunday and were not able to sleep properly. They mentioned it on check in as if we could have done anything about it and didn't offer any alternatives. On the Sunday we could hardly even access the room with tables and people just outside the entrance door. The entrance to the room was not properly clean and the general cleanliness was very poor. They didn't even bother to clean the room on the Sunday. They did not give us a discount and only offered to discount less than half of a dinner we had there. Would not return.

We knew the property but had never stayed. Used as a base for staying in local area. Rooms were subject to noise from outside smoking area so not ideal if you wish to sleep before closing time.

Really enjoyed our stay. Such lovely friendly staff. Great you could park for free and so central to the town. Thank you.

Great place to stay in historic castle Cary…friendly staff, comfy rooms and great classic breakfast to see off a hangover!
Rooms are a little shabby but were clean and functional…certainly value for money at £100 per couple included breakfast and parking.

The kitchen extractor pipe was very close to our bedroom window - very noisy!

The room itself was clean, and they had shampoo/showergel/towels and the shower had fairly good pressure. However if we were staying longer than one night clothes storage would have been a problem as there was no wardrobe or drawers! Additionally the sing bed was incredibly uncomfortable S there were 2 slats missing from the middle of the bed.

Really very good. We weren’t honestly expecting much for £95 including breakfast but it was very good. The only thing that let it down was the fan provided in the room. It was very hot when we went and a better fan would have been appreciated. The breakfast was lovely and all of the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Such a beautiful hotel, really clean comfortable and peaceful. Hotel feels really comfortable and very English countryside. Really lovely staff who were so kind and relaxed, very friendly and welcoming. Had a great sleep and check in and out was so easy. Would absolutely love to come back for a longer stay soon. We had a lovely time.

Had stayed at The George on several occasions and knew what to expect. What I didn’t expect was to have Christmas carols blaring into the room until 2300. They only stopped when I went downstairs to ask the manager if he realised the music blaring in the bar and restaurant was the same in the bedrooms above. Sound insulation would go along way to solving the problem.
Also did not expect the waiter to whip our plates out from under us the moment each of us finished as he was in a hurry to get us out and the drinkers for the local hunt in.
Did not expect to be charged for a room that had the occupants name changed on Expedia but The George took as a fourth room being added. At no time did they ask where the fourth guest was and when was he checking in. It was only on returning home did I receive an email stating my card had been charged for the fourth room. Manager less than helpful.
The extended family have overlooked the shabby diy decor in the rooms as the hotel is within walking distance to the grandchildren but bad customer service is unforgivable.
Finally not sure how legal it is to lock the doors to the hotel at night without having a crash bar on the door to get out without a key.
Delay in writing has been due to wrangling with Expedia about the extra room charge, They finally called it quits and refunded the charge themselves as they couldn’t get a straight answer from the hotel. Hope the extra cash was worth it as you’ve lost future bookings.

What a lovely hotel, well placed to what we needed. Great atmosphere in the bar and the food/service was very good. The room was well placed being outside of the main hotel especially as we had our dog with us, only criticism was the bed/mattress was rather uncomfortable. Excellent stay.

A wonderful inn. Great food, cider and beer. Staff very helpful. The room I stayed in, I gave a 4 out of 5 as although it was clean and comfortable it could do with a refurbishment. I would use the George Inn again.

Quant and quirky would be a generous way of describing this place - but disappointing and dilapidated would be more accurate. We have stayed in worse places, but not much worse and you usually get what you pay for. Here you pay a lot, £90 or more, for a pretty awful experience. We probably should have read other reviews before staying here, reading them now its obvious that this place is run by people that either havent got a clue or, more likely, couldnt care less; the same comments come up time and time again over several years and theyve done nothing to address them. Our room was accessed via the car-park past empty beer kegs and an overflowing drain from the kitchen. Mismatched furniture, curtains hanging off, dodgy cushions on the awful 4 poster, random ornaments and plastic flowers, dilapidated bathroom... so far so bad - I could go on...Only one bath towel was provided so we went to reception to ask for another, nobody in attendance, just a loud and angry dispute between staff members going on in the nearby kitchen and in earshot of customers. Once in bed we were lulled to sleep by the constant drone of the beer cooler just outside the bathroom window.Breakfast was served in the bar, I say served but it was mostly help yourself, it was OK but not a redeeming feature.Perhaps the owners should try the rooms out themselves. Would we stay here again? Definitely not. A rip off. Castle Cary is a lovely place but this is an embarrassment to the town.

Very cosy and welcoming hotel and restaurant area. The room was very clean, however, it could do with redecorating. Additionally the room and bathroom were quite dim and the window was awkward to open and close. I would definitely stay here again.
