We were looking for a cozy place outside of Reykjavik- this was advertised as that but turns out it’s in a highly suburban area (near a lot of gyms). Lots of potential if the lights were on in the sitting area, fire was lit, someone was available at the bar and it was decorated for the holidays. But unfortunately everything was off when we checked in at 7pm and again when we got back from dinner at 930pm. Decor is a bit worn but over comfortable.

It was a lovely hotel, restaurant on the lake was fabulous with great view (despite the rain), and delicious too. We didn't have to head to downtown for a meal for our last night in Iceland. Clean, spacious room, and felt very Viking-like. Super nice staff, I highly recommend. The road was winding to get there, but after a week on the island, we weren't deterred. We'd go back again.

The room itself was quite spacious and very clean.
We had amazing views of the sunrise in the morning however the road down to the hotel is quite gravelly and bendy so extra caution required when driving at night.
The hotel restaurant was ok but the service was quite slow.

This hotel is a rare gem. It is quiet and tranquil, ideally located just outside Reykjavik. Every room has a lovely view across the lake with walking paths if you want to take a stroll. Even the common areas provide great views and comfortable couches to relax on with family and friends.
The staff are all very friendly and helpful. They gave us excellent guidance so for where to go to view the nearby eruption (8/22/24) as well as the local cultural festival (8/24/24) in the city.
I strongly recommend including the breakfast with your stay. They provide a great variety of options including both hot and cold options as well as fresh baked bread and pastries... and the food is excellent. We also had dinner there twice and those meals were also amazing.

This hotel is nothing like the countless concrete boxes I've stayed in over the years. It's nestled next to a lake with amazing views from the rooms and restaurant. The rooms are spacious and it is obvious that a great deal of thought went into them. The staff made us feel at home from the moment we walked in, despite arriving six hours before check-in time with an ill member of our party. The breakfast buffet put the buffet on the cruise ship to shame.
The property is just east of Reykjavik, which made it a perfect home base for our explorations of southwestern Iceland without the need of navigating Reykjavik proper.
Bonus points for getting the volcano to erupt the day we arrived :).

Very comfortable rooms and beds with a nice shower. The hot tub and saunas were great after our long hikes. The property also has kayaks to take out on the lake, which my kids really enjoyed.

We were skeptical from the looks of the outside when we drove up but our room ended up being very nice. We were there in July. We knew there would probably not be air conditioning and the room was HOT. Wouldn’t have been a problem except you can’t open the windows because of all the little bugs. There are no screens on the windows or sliding door to keep them out.

Great customer service. We enjoyed a comfortable and quiet stay. We had a delicious dinner at the on site restaurant. The continental breakfast (not included) was delicious and full of options. Family friendly. Many comfortable locations to enjoy the surrounding views.
FYI …The desk clerk mentioned to let him know if we were going to use the hot tub as this would take approx. 1 hour to heat up. We didn’t end up using the hot tub.

Beautiful lake that you can run around. The staff is wonderful! The shower in the room was excellent as well.

Gorgeous views and close enough to the city to get the best of both worlds— I will definitely be back!

Room was unique but had a weird odor in the room (similar to cat urine). The water also smelled bad which was weird because we had been in Iceland for a week without issue.

We spent two nights at Hotel Kriunes and could not have been more pleased. The room was spacious and clean. The beds provided a warm soft place to sleep. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The location was refreshing and the food in the hotel restaurant was excellent!

Our recent 4 day stay at Hotel Kriunes was absolutely wonderful. Great views from the dining room, large sized rooms and very convenient parking. It was the perfect launching point for exploring Reykjavik and the rest of southern Iceland.

Absolutely fantastic from start to finish. All staff were brilliant and couldn’t do enough for you- Especially Rockis (not sure on the spelling!) he was great and really went above and beyond for all the guests there.
Our room was beautiful, spacious, clean and couldn’t be faulted, we had a beautiful view of the lake where we were lucky enough to step out and see the northern lights!
Good location, close enough to everything (16 min drive to centre) but far enough out that there is no light pollution for the auroras.
Would go back to this hotel in a heartbeat- well done to all and thank you for a fabulous stay!

Beautiful property on a lake with many nice perks. However, the water machine/ boiler, did not work and a major light was out in our bathroom. We were too late to enjoy the hot tub, etc…
We were supposed to have credit for a beer?? They said at check in. Hmm. However, it is a very well maintained hotel.

Quite a nice breakfast with many options.

Beautiful view, right on the lake, with floor-to-ceiling windows the entire width of the room and excellent black-out curtains. There are nice walking paths in the national park across the lake a short drive away. The room and the bed were larger than other places we stayed in Iceland. The on-site restaurant was excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
The location is on the outskirts of Reykjavik in a residential area. Very quiet.

Brilliant hotel! Hidden treasure ! Great views and the location is not to far from the city. The northern lights are on the doorstep! Staff were friendly and the food was amazing

We enjoyed our stay and hotel was very nice. I do feel it was a bit overpriced but so was everything else in the area. Breakfast was not the best and would recommend finding a cafe. Parking was very full while we were there but easy access from second lot.

The rooms with the lake view allowed us to see a "Northern Lights show" from inside our room. The staff was fantastic and I found it to be centrally located around where the activites are. Great stay.

Beautiful room in quiet area near water. Hot Tubs and sauna are open in the afternoon/evening and there is a fantastic massage chair in the changing rooms,
The front staff were extremely helpful and kind.

Room with lake view, water just a few meters away, very quiet, and extremely friendly and sympathetic personnel. Modern and stylish room with terrace. Small food selection, however, very good quality. You can directly walk to the lake from your terrace.
2.0 / 5.0
Facilities are clean and the view from the room was also excellent. But there were some tiny flies outside the room, so it was hard to open the windows. It is about 20 mins ride from downtown.

Comfortable, beautiful , cosy hotel. Very clean. The room was very big also the bathroom. The staff was very friendly and helpful .Breakfast was nice and the restaurant at dinner time is great. The surroundings are beautiful, you can hike along the lake or try hotel kayaks. Most of gests I think travel by car , but you can easily use the bus to get to Reykjavik center. It is 15 min walk to the bus station and 35-45 ride. As of july 2023 the frequency was about 3 times in an hour from early morning till late evening ( less on weekends). We used the buses during all our stay, no problem. Very recommended for quite comfortable stay.

Lovely hotel within driving distance of Reykjavik city centre. Location by the lake is very pretty. Shame there were so many potholes on the access road though (although it did look like this was being improved).

Wonderful hotel on a beautiful lake, just outside of Reykjavik. Much better than staying in the city if you prefer nature & peace. The room was newly renovated and very comfortable, with direct lake access. The restaurant was lovely with great vegan options. Staff was very accommodating. The bonus was a hot tub & infrared sauna to relax in after a dip in the cold lake! Was pleasantly surprised by such a price-friendly hotel.
