Delightful hotel in Grand Marais. Not new or fancy but cozy and quaint
1.0
Definitely needs some updating and a thorough cleaning. Very old furniture and fixtures. Noisy bathroom fan and poor faucet.
3.0
Stay was good. Service was very good. Room was good size.
Negative was vanity sink drained slow & fan was very loud.
1.0
The room maintenance was terrible with a roof leak that is pealing back the popcorn ceiling. The sink faucet was almost impossible to operate because the handle was tight. The continental breakfast was almost nonexistent.
4.0
The room was clean supplied with hygiene products. However, the mattress was not comfortable and I didn’t get rest. The room was not supplied with a coffeemaker and coffee. The free continental breakfast was little to be desired. I felt for the price of the room there should have been more variety.

THe price was too much for only an average stay. The tv remote and offerings were difficult to figure out. The furniture could sure use some updating.

Older motel. Torn carpet, dated decor. But it’s clean and quiet and well located. Room was not serviced nor were linens refreshed during 2-night stay - maybe that’s the new normal…

Older Hotel but in good condition, room was clean and did not have any smells. Beds were okay but not super comfy. In good spot on edge of town, and our room was quiet (we were on the back of the Lodge) even though the main busy road through town runs right in front of Lodge.
Two negatives, hot tub was down the entire time we were there.
Last day the breakfast did not have milk available, and when the front desk was told it took about 45 minuites to get it restocked, I think they had to wait for the grocery store to open up to get more (IE: not very good inventory management).

My mom and I stayed Thursday night (9/12/24). We’re running behind schedule and the associate running the dust that night called to make sure we were still coming, which was a nice gesture.

This is a lovely place to stay. The only think lacking was the breakfast offering.
3.0
The carpet at the entry and stairs was dirty and stained, the hairdryer in our room did not work and the grumpy guy at the desk took me to another room to remove the hairdryer in that room and install it in our room. They did not have a spare at the front desk.

It’s an old fairly well maintained property. We were in top floor and our ceiling has evidence of water damage. I could not pull the sink faucet to the on position. My husband could manage it with difficulty. My main complaint about my experience is the gruff man on check in. He remained seated (he may have needed to) wore a very dirty white Stetson so the customer saw more of that than anything. He was the least welcoming host I have ever encountered.
The hotel in general could use an overall update
In contrast the morning staff greeted me, smiled and was very congenial. They said they would take care of faucet today.

It was quiet, staff very helpful. But there wasn't a microwave or tea and coffee maker.
Many stains on the rug.
Beds were great.

I would not stay again. Cigarette smoke smell in hallways and outside the entry doors. Breakfast was tolerable at best.

Yes. No problem with cleanliness.

Serviceable hotel in a great location.

Ok, just kind of tired. No room service and horrible pillows

We liked staying at Aspen Lodge. Staff was really nice. Breakfast could have had more options.

I am so disappointed in this property. If its going to cost $250 a night to stay in a small northshore town, it should be at least be clean, with functional HVAC. The wall board heater would not turn off, and I was told repeatedly there was nothing that could be done. Never even got a visit from maintenance. Also, there was a handwritten note taped to the AC that said not to leave it on or else it would freeze up. So, everytime we left for a few hours, we would return to a humid 80° room that would take 2 hours to cool down. On top of that, the carpet is covered in stains, there was a huge hole and crack in the window that just looked out to garbage on the ground. Stained ceiling tiles in the bathroom. The linens are few and scratchy. And the "breakfast" and coffee are really stretching the definition of those words. This is the worst $500 I have ever spent. Don at the counter was kind, and you could tell he did his best, but his hands were tied by terrible maintenance and staff. $250 a night is criminal for this place.

Love this place- we stay here every year!

Mostly clean but the carpet is absolutely disgusting! This is my 4 th time staying here . Shoreline Inn is older , cheaper, cleaner, better location, but always booked. So if staying here just make sure you bring your slippers and don’t expect much from the front desk staff either.

Well located for access to Boundary Waters.

Checkin person obviously does not like his job. The rooms were very shabby and not well maintained. So run down and over-priced. Has gone downhill over the years.

Carpets in the hallway in the stairwells are worn out and stained. We like coffee in our room.

Location is great. Short walking distance to all the shops and restaurants in Grand Marais. Lake Superior is about 100 yards from the back of the hotel. Room was clean. Beds comfortable. The bathroom is a bit dated and could use a remodel. But everything worked fine. Price should be about $50 less per day in my opinion, but it looks like all lodging is expensive in Grand Marais these days.

Great views from the third floor

Perfect for our brief purposes.

It would have been nice to have a coffee maker in the room.

I think it was overpriced.

Right on 61 and walking distance to the lake shore. Breakfast your typical centennial breakfast (without eggs or breakfast meats.)

There was absolutely nothing to dislike. Staff were especially friendly and helpful. Thank you for a safe and comfortable night's stay.

The check out person was not very friendly. She didn’t ask how our stay was or if we had any trouble. Clean and comfortable bed.

Great hotel to stay at in Grand Marais!
We loved that we could walk to town.
Beds are extremely comfortable. Pool, hot tub, and sauna was a real treat after a long hike. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. We especially loved Don, the gentleman who checked us in. He was charming! We would definitely stay there again!

Friendly staff

It was an older hotel, but it served its purpose for a 1 night stay. Beds were ok but pillows were flat. Room and hotel was clean. Front desk staff was friendly and polite. Continental breakfast didn't have much to offer so we passed it up. Price was a bit on the high side for the age of the hotel.

Cute little place. Clean, nice pool area. Parking. Centrally located. You could walk everywhere. Very nice staff. Great little free breakfast in the morning. This place does a really nice job in welcoming folks.

Basic Hotel, but very clean. A nice stay to enjoy Grand Marais if you don't care about being in the room much.
