Awesome view and surrounding area quiet and rustic feel

The location of the property was great, located between Whiteface and Lake Placid. Check in was easy and the room was clean. I would consider staying again, however i must be honest. The bathroom needs serious updating. The tub and sink would not drain, having to stand in ankle deep water in the tub, and toothpaste that would not rinse. The blinds need replaced, the window would not open causing black mold on the sill. Overall, the room itself was dated but nice and the a/c worked great.

Great location with a classic charm. While clean enough, the rooms could use a deep clean. I enjoyed my stay and would go back again.

Nice and quiet, restaurant at convenient walking distance. Very nice river nearby.

A lovely riverside setting with generous rooms and window on the Ausable river side. Spacious green grounds with some walking trails along the river. Good quality restaurant on the site.

Pool closed and restaurant not open Mondays or Tuesdays during August holiday season

We have stayed multiple times at this resort. And it has become our go to when we’re in the area. The property has definitely seen it better days. One of the reasons that we book this place is because of the pool, which was broke for both nights of our stay. The rooms were not clean as compared to stays in the past. Black mold in one of the bathrooms. Drop something on the floor that fell under the bed and when I went to pick it up, there was dirty tissues and old candy underneath the bed. While there was plenty of hot water for the sinks the handle on the tub would only allow the water to get Luke warm at best. On the final day of our stay, the toilet broke.

I love that they didn’t have carpet in the room … and the bathrooms were a decent size .. very clean .. will be visiting again soon …

My boyfriend and I visited the hungry trout when we came to Lake Placid so I could run a Spartan Trail race. The end was very nice and we loved that it was near the water and had a restaurant we could also go to. When we checked in on Friday, we visited the restaurant and had a few drinks and liked it a lot the following night we wanted to go and have dinner upstairs. My boyfriend and I arrived at 7:41 PM on Saturday. The hours clearly state the restaurant is open 4 to 9 PM So we became very discouraged when we were told they were closed as soon as we walked into the door. Hostess told us we could check downstairs in the tavern so we went down there where the bartender was sitting at the bar and said as soon as we walked in, we are closed when we questioned the hours we were told we are closed now. We’re looking to get a meal and a few drinks and would have spent over $100 so we were very upset. We were turned away, especially when the hours stated that they were still open other than that. Everything was wonderful. My suggestion might 19 minutes before the stated, closing of the establishment.

Felt like the price was way more than what the room was worth, the pictures on the website made it seem like you would have an okay view but it was completely blocked by trees. Said the tavern was open so we waited until 7 to head over only to be told they weren’t open. Websites need to be updated. Area was beautiful. Stay was mediocre

We’ve stayed here twice now and the rooms need a serious update. There is no housekeeping unless asked for but someone did come in to replenish the coffee. The restaurant is very nice but a little pricey as is everything in the area. I really wanted to eat in the downstairs pub but I use a cane and there is no elevator or ramp. I wish there could be no smoking within many feet of the hotel because people were smoking outside and that skunky smell was coming right into our room.

The scenery was great. Right on the river. Good restaurant was next door and very good. Rooms were clean. Nice pool.

Great motel and clean. Fan in bathroom a bit noisy.
Not a lot of dining options nearby especially for breakfast so pack some breakfast foods. Some restaurants not open Mondays and Tuesdays.
Really nice scenery in the area and close to High Falls Gorge and around 15 minutes from Lake Placid.

I wish my room was cleaner. The resort is run down and it’s nothing like the pictures. This is the second bad hotel I have stayed at through Expedia. I am done using Expedia.

Needs to be updated!

It was located in a beautiful setting with a waterfall but the rooms needed upgrading ...scuffed furniture, cracked bathroom floor, etc. We dont think the room had been cleaned prior to our arrival. The pool was closed for repairs which was very disappointing. Would not recommend

The best thing about this resort is location location location perfectly nestled under the huge white face mountain, close to the gorge falls and gondola rides the motel itself needs update i.e old decor, dirty carpet but updated bathroom and contact free check in.

Where should I start... the entire place looks old, like it's falling apart, however this is not an excuse for the the incredible lack of cleanliness, mess both outside and in the room, sticky chairs and table, broken window blinds, very dirty windows and full of crushed insects, a lot of mold in the bathroom, thick dust everywhere on the lamps or sconces. There were plenty of spider webs between the beds and the bedside table... I don't even want to think if the sheets have been changed or not. I stayed for a few days and although the pool was functional, it was always closed. About the the wifi and the parking, you have to figure it out by yourself... self check in and self check out. I can't understand why there are so many good reviews when the whole place is a disaster, very expensive for what it offers. The restaurant is closed Monday and Tuesday, so I have no idea how it is, however from the outside it kept the same looks as the motel. To add something good about it, the location was good and the views in the area magnificent. I will definitely avoid that place in the future and I don't recommend it.

Great old fashioned motel for the price. The only issue we had was the pool was not going to be open until the day after we left and it was extremely hot.

Perfect getaway location. Having the Ausable River, Hiking paths was truly perfect. The restaurant was so delightful and delicious after climbing to the top of Bear Den trail enjoying the evening taking the beauty all in.

I heard that the hotel resturant and pub are great so we made the hotel reservation. However, this was a last minute reservation and we did not know that the resturant and pub were closed on Monday & Tuesday.
Hopefully, we can try out the resturant and pub someday.

We had a great time staying at the Hungry Trout. The room was clean. The bed was comfortable. The location was great for quickly reaching areas of interest, like Lake Placid and Ausable Chasm.

Great motel. It is showing its age but still very serviceable. We had a king bed. Comfortable. Keurig coffee service in room and front desk. Keyless doors. Wifi was great. Would go back again

So easy to travel to and stay at while we are in the ADK. We were able to go for a walk, fly fish and relax. We are regular guests at the Hungry Trout and love the atmosphere and the changes & updates to this property that occur each time we return. Meagan, Brad, Matt & the entire staff are all in on our experience getting better each time we return. Our King Bed was super comfy. Our favorite part of our stay is to dine with Meagan & Brad. Even though we were not able to enjoy the restaurant as it was closed this visit, we are happy with our stay...just missing the duck...a lot. Thank you!

Price was fair for quality of the facility. Very close to White Face and Lake Placid. Room did not appear to have been vacuumed prior to arrival and the bathroom had lots of lady bugs crawling around. The furnace would not turn down so the room was very hot. We left a day early and could not cancel the second day even though I did purchase the trip insurance so don’t waste your money on scam insurance.

This was the perfect stay for me to watch my grandson ski race at Whiteface. Less than 2 miles to the mountain. A fabulous restaurant on site.

On the plus side, the room was clean and quiet, the mattress was comfortable, and it was perfectly located for my weekend adventures. Housekeeping actually showed up each morning to take out the trash and tidy up, which was nice and not something many hotels do anymore.
On the down side, the shower drain was badly clogged and after about 5 minutes in the shower I was standing in over 2 inches of water. Also, the hot water didn't last for more than 5 minutes. I was not pleased about that at all.

location is great, few minutes from Whiteface and sits on the banks of the Ausable.

Good value, close to Whiteface. Will use again.

It was super close to Whiteface!!! Just what we were looking for. Would like to have breakfast and dinner options available on a Monday close to the property. Restaurant is closed on Monday and Tuesday evenings.

The room was alright, bed was comfy but the room had clearly been through a long time before some touching up (pealing wall paper all over and some stains on the walls/ceiling). But automated check in was fantastic and if we were back in this area we would stay there again. A pleasant experience.
