The check in and welcome was the best we've ever experienced anywhere! It was such a massive surprise and so refreshing. We travelled with a dog and were instantly put at ease and made to feel welcome and like returning guests. We cannot praise this lovely lady enough!
The hotel has fabulous character and it's of the era with tonnes of charm.
If you want modern, soulless straight lines, go elsewhere. If you value history, character, charm and the warmth of an older property then this is certainly the place for you! The hotel is huge and as was our sea view room on the third floor.
Yes, the room needed a few maintenance matters taking care of, but this is no way detracted from our stay.
They've got their fire emergency procedures well planned and visible where it needs to be.
Our only issue during the stay was someone being inconsiderate shouting on the corridor as they returned to their room.
As a very fair priced hotel, I'd not hesitate to recommend and stay again!

We always stay at the hotel when in Great Yarmouth, a few times a year. Has everything u need for the perfect weekend. Always clean, staff helpful, (they moved us to a different room when we said it was far too hot) perfect price, along the seafront next to casino , perfect for us !! 10 mins walk to the shops .. you won’t regret staying here !!

Clean room, nice bathroom and comfortable bed. A bit worn in areas but worth the money :)

Our first room was not cleaned prior to our entry with a empty pepsi can dirty towels and the bed had not been changed. Our second room although sort of clean, the bath was blocked and filled up with water as we showered in and the room was in desperate need of refurbishment.

The staff were as friendly and as helpful as they could be ….
However the room itself was tired and worn , the bedroom window would only open about 2 inches and of what we could see through the window itself and through the 2 inch gap was just roof , the bathroom window was painted shut and could not be opened , the one bed base was broken and rocky , dirty marks all over walls , dirty , spillage marks all over carpets ( made your socks dirty when walking without shoes on ), on entry the bin had blonde hair ( pulled from floor or hairbrush ) in it , the kettle was broken so it would boil and boil without switching off , there was worn out duck tape all over the step up to the bathroom, around the handle , down the door of bathroom was filthy dirty , missing paint patches everywhere , skirting boards mouldy/ dirty round by shower cubicle , holes in wall where a previous loo roll holder once was , we could hear the other rooms , the room was way to warm , due to this we spent hardly anytime in the room , and could not sleep , this was not the room advertised in pictures when we booked . This could be a beautiful hotel inside if maintained well , it’s also in an ideal location .

We have stayed at this hotel several times in the past but since its been taken over its not the same. We had dinner on the second day and it wasnt worth the money. We both had vegetable curry which was ment to come with nan bread but didnt. I asked the girl serving and she said they didnt have any. I then went to make a cup of tea as the facilities was out i then asked for some milk and the same girl told me there isnt any as the machine was getting removed! So i was left with a black tea that i couldnt drink! We then had apple pie with warm custard and a lemon pie with raspberry coulis. The custard was stone cold and no raspberry coulis. Left very disappointed.the bathroom window in our room didnt stay open and rhe bathroom door didnt shut properly. Theres not free hot chocolates in the rooms any more and the bed sheets were dirty! Dont think we will come back again

Needs a lot of TLC, staff were ok. Rooms very basic and need updating.
Also kept up all night due to a domestic in the corridors(appreciate this isn’t hotels fault) but given it went on for couple of hours I would of thought security would of got involved

It wasn't very clean wasn't what we booked definitely not worth £220 for 2 nights stay there was no bar it's advertising it has one I'm glad we didn't have to pay for breakfast as not every much section water for the shower was very hot or freezing cold and not very helpful when asked about it. It's just a check in take your money and get on with it very unhappy would never return or recommend it to anyone.

The staff were lovely upon arrival. Room was okay for price could use some touches of paint as looks very old and had a musk smell to it. But we did not sleep at all and rushed out in the morning due to loud noises from other rooms at night our dog just couldn’t settle as we could hear everything around us. Lots of shouting in the street right outside the hotel.

Nothing good to say about this hotel. The fire alarm went off for 3 hours in the middle of the night. The rooms were tired and dusty and you can hear the floorboards creaking from the hallway and rooms above and around you. Avoid.

Rooms were clean , but need updating also bathroom needed a complete refurbishment. The room was big enough but would be nice with a small fridge in it. We were staying only for 1 night so it was ok . If longer i think it would bother me more .

Hotel is a little tired but serves a purpose. Bed was comfortable and room was clean.

Good location. Rooms on the website look modern and comfortable. We were not given one of those rooms. Bed is so squeaky we had to put the mattress on the floor in order to sleep.
Was cheap but if you want to sleep do not stay here.

View was very nice out to the seafront. Old with modern touches. Bathroom stunk of old rotten veg.

The property is nicely situated. Staff is helpful. Our stay was okay, the property is quite old and age related issues exists too in this property.

Staff were very friendly. However going off the photos, the room we had was in nowhere near the standard shown. We paid more for this hotel as it looked better than the others.
Stains on carpets, wallpaper peeling off and the smell was bad.
Toilet leaked badly overnight so they had it checked out for only to be told there was nothing wrong even though there was water all over the floor, but they would move us anyway. The second room was a lot better but still in need of some TLC.
Perfect location for exploring Great Yarmouth and staff were very friendly. Had a lovely nights sleep and views were lovely if you had a front room.Parking is free (council owned)outside if u can get a space, otherwise i noticed paid parking was pricey.

We stayed at The Carlton for one night. It was a good location for our day Horse Racing in Gt Yarmouth.
Very friendly greeting on arrival, room with a sea view, good clean bedding and towels and tea and coffee making facilities.
Bit noisy with road noise but okay.
We didn’t have breakfast but looked like a nice hot buffet

Hotel under refurbishment, I hope! Very sparse in appearance, I.e. no embellishment as in house plants, flowers, ornaments and few pictures on the walls. The hotel is Muslim owned and therefore alcohol free although you can byo this should be advertised on booking and that breakfast is available although not included in the room price. Not a problem cost wise but maybe should be mentioned at booking stage. Room clean, linen clean and bed comfortable so not unhappy with our stay. Entertainment could have made a bit more effort to not look like she’d just walked in off the street. Maybe Ascot room could have had a bit more ambiance.

Absolutely disgusted with this hotel my wife has Covid & we sent proof of the results & they refused to refund us our money, certainly wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone customer service is nonexistent

we liked the location, however feel the property could do with some further upkeep.

Hotel was comfortable and room very spacious. The food was good. Parts of the hotel are a little worn but had some nice period features. No alcohol in bar but allowed to take your own. Very central to holiday entertainment and activities. Would stay again.

Liked all the extras like iron/fan/hairdryer. Liked having the desk/mirrors for getting ready. Lighting good and good storage. Paintwork/radiators needing touching up and pillows could do with changing/protectors. Breakfast very good

Friendly staff but they were in the middle of a take over hopefully the rooms will be updated

Myself and my daughter stayed for 2 nights. The staff where very welcoming and always available. However, our bedroom door kept rattling and kept us awake or woke us whenever someone walked by. It's great that the hotel is dog friendly, although not so great when on Monday morning the room adjacent to us had a very yappy dog that woke us again. Overall the hotel served it purpose for us whilst we were visiting. Family.

It was just perfect for were we wanted to be

An older hotel with a great location. But suffering a bit eith age and, perhaps, having difficulty due to not enough staff. It must be hard keeping up with repairs, but the lobby stairs were do worn (and fixed with tape), that I feared a fall.

The night life after 6pm outside the hotel was minimal even at the start of June. There was a bar at the hotel to sit in. The hotel itself was lovely and so were the staff. The food was good and value for money.

Exceptional, friendly service from all staff especially the lovely lady manager on reception who went above and beyond to help us when our car broke down leaving us in really difficult circumstances.
