It was great. Staff was very accommodating and helpful with airport shuttle and room while staying as a solo traveler for a short amount of time in Tonga. Would recommend

I am a repeat visitor to the Emerald. It is in a good location, the staff are friendly, and the rooms are spacious with a comfortable bed and fridge. Hot water showers are a bonus in Tonga. The breakfast is included and comprises hard boiled eggs, toast, fruit and tea. My stay was booked for 11 nights and I payed full price 3 months in advance. Disappointingly Air NZ cancelled my return flight and I had to return two nights earlier than planned. I notified Emerald staff 48 hrs prior to departure that flights had been changed. When I requested a refund from management I was informed I would need to go through Hotel.com. Which I did. Despite several attempts Hotel.com could not get me the refund which was very disappointing.

We stayed two times for one night so in total two nights. Very rundown hotel. Few stains on the sheets and towels. On our first night no hot water. Ac remote was only in Chinese.
Second night the room was pretty clean and the shower had warm water. But the toilet was not working.

Told staff I’d be checking in at 230am. They said security guard would let me in. When I arrived there was no one there and I had to find my own key. Room was filthy, empty water bottles, trash, and leaves. No towels, no sheets, no pillows, and the door lock was taped to the door. The next morning the staff was embarrassed and moved me to another room but refused to credit me for the first miserable night. Continental breakfast is less than expected. Many better options in the area for room and food. Had to file a claim with hotels.com

The owner is really nice and helped us a lot. The chinese restaurant aside is really good as well.

We booked rooms next to each other, but this was not an option when we arrived. Asked to move room on last day to facilitate a late booking from someone else but had to refuse this request which seemed unreasonable. Room itself was great - large and comfortable with excellent balcony with a sea view as advertised.

Good staff. But the state of the hotel smells old and the codition looks not nice to sleep in. We booked for three nights only stay for two nights and booking somewhere else. Due to being creepy and old. Will not book there again due to the state of the hotel

Wonderful customer service and the aircon was a welcome relief in the heat. The property was in OK condition and the cleaners were so considerate and helpful.
Breakfast was OK with fresh tropical fruits, eggs, toast, juice and coffee.
Having the restaurant onsite was great when we just wanted to stay in. TV reception was terrible so we watched movies on our computer which wasnt a problem as the internet was fast (unlike in the villages where reception isnt great).
My highlight was the lovely gentleman who works security at night when reception goes home. He was so relaxed, friendly and helpful and was available to see that I got safely to my room when returning late at night from a family funeral. Malo aupito.

Good central location and while the rooms are dated the staff and team there were very friendly and helpful.

Located next to the seaside but in need of refurbishment

The fixtures and fittings were in very poor shape especially in the living area and the bathroom. We had to be very careful using old electrical appliances and avoiding falls. On the positive side, the room was large, the beds were comfortable and the bed linen was fresh and clean. Fresh bath towels were provided every
day. Breakfast and occasional meals were satisfactory.

This place needs work. The staff are friendly and the restaurant downstairs is good for vegetarian options. The building itself feels like a place someone has either inherited or overpaid and they're not quite sure which market they are going for. If I were them, I would concentrate on a few rooms, replace the appliances, fix the towel racks etc and progressively renovate.

I would say this is an ok place to spend a night. Unlike a lot of places in Tonga, I wouldn’t drink the water there. We had to ask for things like water, shampoo, etc. that were complimentary at other hotels. Pretty run down. My room had a broken sink bowl and the facet was so loose I had to hold it with one hand and turn it on/off with the other. The morning ride was ordered in time but there was no way to order an early breakfast. Friendly but we had to wake the night watchman up to help us with our bags. Won’t stay again but as I said, in a pinch it is ok for 1 night.

I liked the sea view Room, good location. Restaurant is open on Sundays . Overall enjoyed my stay .

To say this place is "dilapidated" is an understatement. I was ready to check out the moment I walked in to my room. HOWEVER, if a beachfront (balcony) room with a GREAT bed, HOT shower and super lovely staff are important to you, then give this place a go. There's so much to do in Nuku'alofa, that the rest doesn't matter.

Was quite dusty when we first arrived and noisy by the main road. Door to balcony didnt open easily but we got it moving. Extra bed was quite hard and frame was rusty. Staff were nice, we had lots of queries which they handled for us. Good location for town and was a good place to just chill in the evenings

The staff was very friendly. However, the hotel is completely run down: rust on the toilet seat, holes in the cupboard, wires and cables laid bare etc. etc. there’s been no maintenance for years …

The ceiling was damaged, curtain wasn’t in good condition and couldn’t cover at least half the windows.

Overall very disappointed in the condition of the hotel. And disappointed in expedia for refusing cancellation of my booking even though the hotel was not up to standards of what they were advertising. The photos they shared on their app is outdated. Their is rust and corrosion on the balcony rails, barely hanging on making it unsafe. And cabinets being eaten by termites. Will not book again n reconsidering using this app in future as well.
