Interesting experience. There is no on-site staff, but the building is in excellent (restored) condition. You let yourself in with the door code and then you’re on your own.
The on-site restaurant is not operating, so we drove a couple miles for dinner. We made breakfast from what was on site.
Thankfully there was no noise from the railroad outside.
We’ll be back.

Lyle hotel is a work in progress. I am sure as time passes they will do more to improve making it more modern. It was great to get out in the courtyard and to sit in the lobby area and just relax. I enjoyed watching the trains go by and would enjoy a better view of the trains. I would visit again as they progress.

My fault for not asking for more info! Because of my age the stairs were a little difficult but I made it! The bed was the highlight of my overnight stay !wonderful comfort! Also did not realize you weren’t fully open! But thanks for the amazing sleep! Also enjoyed the beautiful and thoughtful surroundings! Thank you!

In the past my wife and I have had very memorable experiences at the Lyle Hotel and its former restaurant.

This was a very comfortable, clean and a unique place to stay. They are not serving meals but I bought great Chinese food made on the spot at the local grocery store. It was kind of noisy from the trains going by on both sides of the river. The manager was great and we enjoyed knowing about the area. It is beautiful on that side of the river.

We loved this charming vintage hotel with unique accents. The beautiful staircase leads to a floor of bedrooms and shared bathrooms. Our stay was quiet an comfortable and there was never a wait for the bathrooms. The AC in our room was ideal on the 100 degree day. Easy free parking in front of the hotel. And a quick drive across the beautiful Colombia for wine tasting or watching wind surfing in Hood River. We look forward to our next visit.

Perfect location for visiting the Columbia Gorge scenic area. Great location for access to Catherine Creek/Coyote Wall, Horsetheif Butte, Stonehenge, Maryhill. The hotel was a cozy landing spot for two tired hikers/climbers. The beds were too firm for me, post strenuous physical activity.

Great host, amazing food. You have to go up stairs to get to your rooms and bathrooms are shared, if you have traveled Europe than you should be used to this. Rains pass the hotel throughout the night, if you can make sure your window is closed, especially if you’re a light sleeper.

The location of the Lyle is right on the river, most rooms have a view. Even though there is a train near by (which did not wake me) I slept more soundly and awoke refreshed. So close to wine country how can you loose trying something unique. Thanks Richard!

We enjoyed our stay here. The staff is really friendly and welcoming. Make sure to eat while you are here. The owner is also the chef and is a fantastic cook. I had ravioli and it was delicious.

There was no one there to let us in. There was no breakfast. Way overpriced for a shared bathroom and inadequate air conditioning. We do not recommend this hotel.

Sadly, I cannot recommend this hotel. The restaurant was not open, despite hotels.com saying it was. The train that went by was extremely loud, like it was pretty funny how crazy loud it was. my husband and i just had to laugh. they did provide earplugs, but still woke up me up every hour. the carpet and furniture had some stains on it. There were plants in the back patio that werent planted, just sitting in their store containers on top of the ground (kinda trashy). Also, the bathroom has random toiler paper holders attached to the back of the door...why not just remove those? Seemed kinda lazy to just leave the extra TP holders on the doors, would be an easy fix. Breakfast was the most comical though. All we found was 1 english muffin in the fridge at 8am. All the granola was gone and there was no yogurt (despite the front desk stating there would be when we checked in). The fridge was full of leftover staff takeout food, old cake, costco size bricks of butter, again just seemed lazy. Why not have a cheap mini fridge for just the milk/yogurt/butter for hotel guests? Dirty dishes from guests were just left on the counter and mixed in with the clean dishes, since there was no way of knowing where to put things in the tiny kitchen area. We met 1 staff person at check-in but besides that was empty. no one at breakfast time to ask questions or about the lack of breakfast. still wondering what my hundred dollars paid for...a noisy night and an empty stomach.

When we showed up, check in was great and the owners were very friendly and amiable. Had a GREAT time grabbing a drink and enjoying the live music out on the patio. Room was well kept and bathroom and shower were in good conditions. Unfortunately, once we tried to sleep things turned south. Because it was the middle of summer and there is no air conditioning, we were forced to keep the windows open all night - which was problematic given that there are freight trains rolling by about every 30 minutes throughout the night. While the hotel was kind enough to provide earplugs, this did little to help. Knowing that the trains are so loud, I feel like a window air unit or at least a box fan in the room would be provided so the windows could be kept closed to offer the chance of sleep.

Right from the beginning Richard and Trea ,owners of the hotel ,were very welcoming. We chose to stay here because of the idea of an old train station. They normally don't take in guests on the day we booked but they took us in anyway, no questions asked! They sat and talked with us about our travels and added input and helped us with where we were going next. Richard is a Chef also and went to a french cooking school, unfortunately we had already eaten and didn't get to eat there. It had an indoor and outdoor eating area with a great atmosphere! Rooms were fun . The washrooms and showers were conveniently located right outside our door. Just a great fun place to stay!!

I love old railroad hotels. Wish we had more time to stay and explore the Columbia gorge.
