The hotel was in a good location, close to the museum and the Royal Palace. Also just a short walk to the riverside and many restaurants. We were a little disappointed that the room was not as described. Our room was supposed to have a patio with city views. No patio. Otherwise the room was what we expected for a 2star hotel. Wifi and hot water were good.

Staff speaks basic English & are friendly. Room was basic - photos looked way better than the actual room itself. Room is not sound proof. Safe (to lock up personal belongings) was sturdy, easy to use & operate.
Cleanliness was ok although one day there was a lizard that welcomed me on my table when I got back. Toilet sometimes had an odd smell but was bearable.
No elevator or escalator here; which is ok for me as I was backpacking/travelling light.
The lock to my room door seemed to be WEIRD because on my first day, someone (another guest) managed to open my room door & enter the room while I was inside. That was very freaky & a huge turn off.
Hot water for shower works intermittently - I found that I had to turn on & off the shower twice before the heater switches on.
Unfortunately only managed to extend check out time by 1 hour to 12PM. But that's okay.

Good things: Good location & friendly staff members.
Bad things: Light was little bit dark for me.
In overall, I liked staying here. They also have nice Khmere noodle soup for breakfast :)

We stayed in The Artist Guesthouse for 3 nights in October and enjoyed our stay. The hotel staff are really friendly, speak good English and couldnt do enough to help you.We stayed in a mezzanine room which was a little strange. The room was big and had everything you need but not suitable for anyone over 6 foot 1, the mezzanine was quite low and so not a lot of head room either below it or once youre up on top.The bed was very comfortable and we slept well. The shower was hot but not very powerful, I think the room could do with a new showerhead as the water seemed to be spraying out the sides. The only major negative would be that the room needed a deep clean. It wasnt dirty as such, just more dusty. There was a lot of book shelves and things which had a layer of dust over them. The room is not suitable for people with disabilities or young children as the steps up to the mezzanine were quite steep.Overall we enjoyed our stay and it is right in the heart of a busy area and walking distance to a lot of major attractions.

We stayed in a mezzanine room and it was very spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff were really friendly and helpful, we booked our bus to Sihanoukville with them. The location was perfect, just a short walk to the river and there were lots of great restaurants near by.The only negative was the shower wasn’t very good but that wouldn’t stop us staying here again.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The room was nice and clean, hot water strong, air-con and fan, but I think even better is the food in the restaurant downstairs. Delicious! I would definitely recommend this hotel.

I spent two weeks at the Artist Guesthouse - and had a very enjoyable time. My room was cool and clean. The food was outstanding. And the staff was amazing. I just can't say enough about these wonderful people. They were friendly and helpful and made me feel like family.

I stayed in one of the mezzanine rooms, which was very spacious. There is a downstairs area and the bed was in the loft area. I only stayed one night but I arrived very late at night so I was thankful that the guard waited up for me and let me in. The whole guesthouse is on lock down at night, which makes it very safe. I only had 12 hours total in Phnom Penh, so I was thankful that this place was only blocks away from the Royal Palace, the National Museum, and Wat Onaloum. I had an interior room with no real windows, which was fine for my short visit, but if I were staying for several days I would have made sure to stay in a room with a balcony.
I never could figure out the wi-fi. There were no instructions in the room and the guard did not share the password with me when I arrived at 1am. There was definitely some sort of internal pump going that I could hear in my room, but it did not keep me from sleeping.
The shower room and toilet room were separate and had proper doors. My only gripe was that the shower really didn't drain, so there was dirty water at my feet.

Although not equipped with all the up-to-date fittings, this is a lovely guesthouse that has very welcoming staff and good food. If you're on a budget and want to stay in central Phnom Penh I fully recommend this address.

The Artist Guesthouse is located in the heart of Phnom Penh. The staff, who speak both French and English (in addition to Vietnamese), were friendly and helpful. They will provide you with an excellent map to help you navigate the city. Remork & tuk-tuk drivers can be found everywhere, so if you need to go further than your feet will take you, it's easy to arrange. I was given a room in the back, which was peaceful and quiet. It was clean, spacious and the bed was comfortable. My room was equipped with a hot pot, ceramic cups, packets of Nescafe and bottled water, which I particularly appreciated. Meals are available in the restaurant and their service is amazingly quick!
