I loved our stay in Kyoto. This hotel is close to two bus stops and a subway stop. The restaurant downstairs is also lovely. The laundry on-site is also a huge win. The only thing that we didn’t enjoy was the lack of wifi. The service was spotty at best.

Great spot

Loved the property

Good location, nice and clean hotel with traditional Japanese rooms. Separated bathroom requiring a key makes it not ideal, but not a big deal. Lounge area is nice with available drinks day long, and coin-operated laundry room is very convenient. Breakfast is a bit repetitive if you stay for a few days, some variation would be ideal.

The rooms is spacious & modern tradisional, we like the 24 hr lounge room it's so huge and cozy with free beverages like hot teas & mineral fused drink.
The only downside is the WiFi is slow.

Loved the size of our room with the sitting area!

The suite was great for the family and the double balcony was wonderful

The hotel was fantastic! The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean and cozy, the reception smelled and sounded like a spa. They had a guest lounge that was beautiful with tasty beverages. We tried the Japanese breakfast which was cool but not our cup of tea. The hotel is close to subway and major bus line, walking distance t hreat shopping, parks, shrines, and Nishiki market. Overall, our stay was exactly what we needed and more, we'll definitely come again next time we're in Kyoto!

Great service from staff. The room suited our stay family of 4. Appreciate the eco friendly approach, jugs to refill. Guest lounge was very relaxing.

Excellent location and like the Japanese style bedroom

My main issue was that the images of the hotel online felt misleading and therefore the rooms were disappointing. Neither my room or the rooms booked by my family members looked like the advertised images.
Rooms were very small with little space for baggage. All rooms had dark/black carpets, and no wood floors as in the images. My family members paid for a traditional Japanese style room but their room did not differ from my standard room at all.
This said, they werent bad rooms and wouldn't have been a problem with them if the online images had been more reflective of what the rooms looked like in person.
The only other issue was that there were no reception staff at night.
Otherwise the hotel staff were great, the breakfast was good and bathroom area of the hotel room was nice.

Our stay was overall great; the room was slightly bigger than expected, especially the toilette.
We loved the bed and the room set up!
Just a bit disappointed about the western breakfast but definitely a place we would go back

The Rakuro Hotel has a lovely blend of traditional Japanese ryokan and modern styling. We stayed in a room with tatami and futons which was very comfortable. It was large and perfect for two people with suitcases. The private bathroom was also spacious. It is joined to the room, but you have to remember to keep your key on you as it is outside the main door in a private entryway. This was not an issue, just a readjustment. You do not need to worry about bathroom privacy since there is a bathroom door lock and toilet door lock.
The hotel lounge has tea making facilties and botanical water which was a lovely extra. It's a great place to sit and relax in the morning or after sightseeing. The spa like music makes it a very serene atmosphere.
There are plently of places for food in the local area. Highlights include a small bakery called Flip Up! which has freshly baked, warm pastries and breads, and a matcha cafe called YUGEN which serves specially prepared matcha drinks with traditional wagashi. The hotel is located in walking distance of a metro line and a city bus making access easy. It is also only a 25 minute walk to Nishiki.
The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. We really appreciated that they sorted our luggage transfer to our next hotel. There was not any issues with the language difference. The staff spoke a good level of English and used translation apps which made everything a breeze.

The staff was incredibly helpful and attentive. Right around the corner from a subway stop and Imperial Palace. The lounge area was a great place to relax and the laundry was helpful mid trip. Would definitely stay here again.

It is a really nice Hotel. Subway is near and we enjoyed our stay a lot.

The staff was so kind, very helpful, the food was amazing (highly recommend adding the Japanese breakfast to your booking) and the room was the perfect blend of western and Japanese style (creature comforts considered). This has been the best hotel I’ve stayed at in Japan! I would re-book and recommend over and over again!
Bonus, there is a train stop less than 2 minutes (walk) away! This made moving around the city very convenient.

The room was a little cramped with the pillar in the middle and little natural light, but otherwise was fine for a short stay.

this is the third time I stayed at Rakuro, the location is just perfect, abit away from the busy, but very easy accessible ( just 2 station to Shijo) and 20 mins taxi take off from Kyoto station to the hotel. The environment, taste and style is modern and clean. the concept about plants echoes with the room as well. also hv self laundry service.

Generally a pleasent stay at Rakuro. Service staff was very helpful in helping to call clinics, hospitals and even drug stores when my son was feeling unwell. Thumbs up for that.
Location was fantastic too. Buses that goes to the tourist attractions, train station was just 2mins walk away and walking distance to a local supermarket, combinis and eateries.

RAKURO offers a unique reformed traditional Japanese tatami-style rooms by raising the sleeping area higher. The room is spacious and impeccable. Separating the bathroom from the bedroom is also rarely seen. The hotel’s lounge is its highlight that offers herbal tea, sofas and a round-shaped window to see the outside alley. RAKURO’s architectural style embodies the vibes of Kyoto - a perfect blending of the modern minimalism and the traditional Japanese. It’s also conveniently located with the imperial garden across the street and a subway station just by the corner.

The facilities and staff at the hotel were great. However, the in room WiFi signal was weak during our stay and there were sticky brown stains all over the carpet in our room. The property and room were also very hot and stuffy and we could not adjust the thermostat. Had to keep the windows open.
8.0
We enjoyed our stay at Rakuro Kyoto. It was quiet and peaceful and had a very nice vibe. The rooms were on the smaller side, but had great amenities. The bathroom was clean and modern, but we hadn’t realised that we had booked a room with a private bathroom external to the room itself - that took a bit of getting used to, but was really fine. The hotel has a very beautiful guest lounge and botanical lab which was the highlight of our stay.
10.0
The staff were amazing and the rooms were bigger in Japanese standards. It's conveniently located near train and bus stop. It is 3 min walk to the nearest train station and within walking distance to Imperial palace garden and Nijo Castle.

An incredible design with an unbeatable location
4.0
The lobby, cafe, and guest lounge are all very aesthetically pleasing. However, the rooms are definitely more function over form. Beware of the rooms and the sizing to make sure you know what you are in for - the standard rooms are incredibly tiny and you can’t reasonably access your check-in sized suitcase without causing a trip hazard. Though the train station is conveniently steps away, there’s not much within walking distance that is on a typical top rated list or popular with tourists. The biggest turn offs were the cleanliness and comfort. Expect very firm beds, low quality beaded pillows, and stain riddled carpeting and upholstery.

The "Botanical Lab" guest lounge was a beautiful, comfortable, and peaceful place to hang out with a book, laptop, or drink from the onsite fawn. cafe.

Such an amazing service from the staff. The place is beautiful and stylish, I enjoyed the environmental friendly options and their thoughtfulness! I forgot something at hotel after checking out and asked them if they could ship it to my hotel in Tokyo. They kindly helped me and I was able to get the item in one day!! Such amazing service , again!

Hotel in great location. Hotel a little dingy.. like the rugs need to be deep cleaned as they are quite stained and walls washed… bathroom great. Make sure you get one in your room.. they have private bathroom for you but you must leave your room with your key to use it. Friendly staff. Skip the breakfast and head to School bus bakery and cafe down the street.

We stayed in the Japanese superior room, with adjoining private bathroom. Good room size. And a nice bathroom and lovely, large shower. A quiet hotel.
You could choose between Western or Japanese breakfast. It got a bit boring with the same breakfast each day in the end (we stayed for 4 nights).
It was nearby the subway so that was nice. For extra amenities we had to take what we wanted from the 1st floor - an environmental plus.
5.0
Small cozy Well designed hotel near metro with polite staff. Great coffee.
8.0
Nice stay at Rakuro Kyoto. The hotel has a nice design. But the location isn’t as close to the most exciting sights in the city. Luckily subway and bus stops are within walking distance. Breakfast was good but they only have the same 2 options and we stayed for 4 days so had to repeat quite a bit. Coffee surprisingly not included and they can’t charge to the room so you have to pay immediately every time. Wifi goes from OK to average. Staff was nice and willing to help.
8.0
Small room but more than enough for a couple of nights. The coffee in the cafe (ground floor (fawn)) tastes wonderful. Bus and subway station is close by.
10.0
The lounge and cafe on the ground floor are impeccably designed. So cool and still comfy
