Owner was personable and friendly- great customer service - great location in little India

Overall room was good worth its price. Share bathroom and toilet was a bit difficult to use because all the time have to dress up and go out from room to the hall and then toilet.
there was a cat there and always roam around and wants t enter to the room all the time, for those who are scared of cat is not very convenient. Rooms' door was not safe enough and can nt lock it from inside safely.

Howie was a really nice and helpful host. Breakfast was great and he gave us a lot of information about Georgetown. Watch out to get a room with a Window.

The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. The food provided in the morning was lovely and stayed there all day, so good for a snack later on! Free tea and coffee all day too. The location was great, close to everything we needed with a bus stop just over the road. There are also tonnes of shops and places to eat around this area. Shared bathrooms were always clean.
Only slightly negative point I have is that our room was dull and dingy because it had no window but not a problem if you’re constantly sightseeing anyway!

Staff was beyond nice. First night was in a room with window, wayyyyy too noisy and bed was really bad, super lumpy. Second room was better (it had two beds) one was ok the other was completely caved in. This room smelled bad like cat pee and cigarettes( probably from the ventilation system) soap for washing your hands after going to the bathroom would be nice. Loved the kitchen and breakfast area

This is a great place for any traveler looking for a simple place to stay that had a lot of character and makes you feel at home. The staff were great at helping recommend restaurants and things to do on the stay, as well as encouraging guests to try local favorites. Easy to walk almost anywhere in Georgetown from here. The cat that lives there definitely made the stay more enjoyable as well. We extended our stay we liked it so much!

Difficult for me to give a review. First of all: The staff is absolutely wonderful and the location is great but like so many other places in Malaysia, the quality of the rooms and shared bathrooms is just not the same standard as in other Asian countries. The room itself was small but big enough for us, the ac worked great. The mattress was too old and soft. I kept rolling into the middle of the bed and onto my friend because it was worn though in the middle. Our room was on the 2nd floor and I ended up using the bathroom and toilet on the ground floor because the ones on the first floor where a bit too basic for me. Ended up getting rained on sitting on the toilet one night (I hope it was rain lol). But like I said, the staff was amazing, we got a lot of helpful tips for the area and they always had some small dishes/basic breakfast ready in the common area. We ended up extending by one more night but I personally just prefer a tiny bit more comfort

Howie and Arthur were the best hosts we had throughout our three week trip in Malaysia. They were incredibly kind and had excellent recommendations/were great to talk to. It really felt like a home staying at cocoa mews.

Cheap and cheerful. The manager guy howie was the nicest dude and was always offering advice on places to see and things to do. Quite a few cats reside around the premises too which was a bonus for me. As for negatives the room did have a bit of a funny smell to it but it and everything in the room was probably like a 100 years old so to be expected. A unique place to stay.

This place has the best vibes I have ever been surrounded by. Room wise there was a major damp & mould issue and the bed was super uncomfortable with springs digging into our backs, but it really seemed irrelevant.
The two chaps that ran it were super helpful giving us an abundance of things to do during our stay. Unfortunately I was ill so didn't get to go out and explore but my partner did.
They have a free drinks and food section, bread, daily baked good, meals.
I felt so welcome. We would definitely come back.

Hosts howie and arthur are friendly. I stayed over xmas eve and xmas. They hosted a xmas potluck party. Free food, free drinks, awesome conversations. Atmosphere was great.
Room is rather small. Aircon is cold. Water heater works. But footsteps can be heard in this refitted colonial house if you stay on the 2nd floor.
Location is good. Very central. Minutes walk to the bus stop and to some great eats.

I had a great experience during my initial stay at Cocoa Mews that I decided to extend and stay two more nights. The guesthouse is centrally located in the heart of Little India, close to the ferry, local attractions and bus lines. The rooms are clean and common areas comfortable. The host, Howie, is passionate and always available to tell you about the area, give you ideas for local activities and share with you local delicacies. It’s overall a great place to stay while enjoying Penang Island.

Cocoa Mews is the perfect place to stay while on Penang Island. Located in Little India, it’s a short walk from the pier and close to the bus lines. The accommodations are simple but clean with a shared kitchen area and a nice patio from which you can watch the bustling street vendors. The host, Howie, is passionate, experienced and full of smiles. He will share with you the island’s history, culture, walk you through the neighborhood and even show you where to buy cheap beer! There are 13 rooms and even though the walls are thin, everyone is very considerate which ensured a quiet night. I would highly recommend Cocoa Mews to anyone traveling to Penang!!

Great stay with friendly staff.. the rooms are not very equipped tbf and very basic , I booked the room with the private bathroom and it was so small I just used the ones in the common area. Free drinks and fruit all day , few friendly cats and like I said it’s the staff that make this place what it is

Staff is friendly, it is very clean! comfy bed, great ac, great area. And of course, the price is the best thing :) Maybe a little noisy though but they ask people to walk gently but no one cares..bring earplugs!

Good location with friendly staff. Room very basic with no windows.
Air con could do with a service...it took a long time to cool room.
