The property is dusty in the front areas, and no Airconditioning in the lobby and dining areas. A lot of time was waisted waiting on the lift.
The conference room was below average and meals were the same every day even though we requested changes. The staff was hospitable and helpful as possible.
The property was something special in its hay day for sure. Carvings, engravings and decor are impressive.

We liked the Friday night pizza special and also the Solomon Island dancers on the Friday night as well. They were very good. Staff were very friendly.

King Sol makes you feel at home while in Honiara. Conveniently located in town centre, allows you to explore all that Honiara has to offer. The housekeeping and restaurant staff in particular are friendly and do an amazing job. Also...the BEST pizza in the Solomon Islands!

I have very mixed feelings but all things considered, I would stay there again. First the good: [email protected] is great. Keren, the tour operator, picks you up and drops you back there. I used her to go snorkeling on the sunken wrecks, all around the WW II sites, and for my return to the airport. She provided a small lunch, water, but most of all, trustworthiness. I could not recommend her any higher.
Back to other hotel positives: bed, micro, fridge, teapot, and A/C all excellent. Pizza and fish and chips in restaurant great.
Now negatives: as unique as the tram to your floor is, it's slow. It's a very old hotel, hanging on as best as it can. The price is much cheaper than most other hotels in Honiara. First room had terrible A/C and when I asked to move, no problem. The only internet is down in the lobby with no A/C. Same as restaurant. You can pay extra to have internet in your room, but I find that petty and annoying. There was no hot water in the room, and the shower had a constant drip. No breakfast included, nor do they have airport pick up, but the airport is well organized and you know the fare before getting in the taxi. No bottled water was in the room, and the reading lamp above the bed was missing the bulb. Like I said, for all things considered, I would stay there again, knowing it's an old hotel with quirks, is safe, has good food, restful sleep, and an excellent tour guide, Keren. Be tolerant and save money here.

Cable car broke. No lifts. No coffee after rhe first day. Expensive food and not so edible. Ants cockroach. Towels not changed. Bed covers the same for three days. I will not use this hotel again. You should take it out of your lust.

We stayed for 4 nights. The place is more cheap and cheerful than luxurious, but the bed was comfy and the room was adequate for our needs. A few things needed fixing, but they gixed them quickly. And the food was really good, especially the wood-fired pizza.

How to really rate this hotel because it is in a surprisingly disappointingly dirty country period the Solomon people are great, but the roads
suck, infrastructure run down, the entire island wherever the population lives isn't trashed dump. Not much tourism in the island, is no one does anything to promote it. They do not have shuttle service free or otherwise to the airport comma so you might want to hire a taxi.
The property needs renovation, and when asked about electric convertors since they have no US receptacles. So until I could get to a hardware store to buy some, I used the base of the coffee pot to put my phone charger into. The prongs out of my male plug fit into the coffee maker base just ducky. It worked. But wifi is only free in the lobby.
And there is no elevator. Instead since it is built up a hillside, they have an old Australian cable car. How cool is that * Convenient location and a lot of things and places period

Location is pretty good.

Room was fairly sparse and the tap in the bathroom sink needs a new washer.

Compared to other accommodation this was affordable, comfortable and safe. Close to town. Nothing fancy but did the job and felt like a genuine Honiara experience

Rickety and unpredictable cable car system to reach room, can of bug killer comes in room, no towels, tv and safe in room never worked and never got any attention despite 3 requests. Couldn't get coffee because the woman who works the coffee maker was out sick!
Not at all like the photos on line. Never again.

Overall pleasantly surprised with my stay. Yes, there are bugs. But it's the tropics. Hardly the hotel's fault.
But I wanted to directly address two of the most common negative complaints I read in several online reviews.
Wi-fi. Good wi-fi is available everywhere on the property. The confusion comes from what's free and what isn't. Free wi-fi is only accessible from the reception area. It's slow and often drops. But saying the hotel's wi-fi sucks or isn't available in the rooms is flat out wrong. There is a very fast paid wi-fi option that is accessible everywhere, including the most remote rooms. Connection was stable for my entire 3-day stay. Paid wi-fi rates are quite reasonable, and you pay less per day the longer you stay. A one day wi-fi pass is 6.50 USD. A three day pass is 5 USD a day.
Cablecar. The hotel is built into a steep hillside with the lobby at street level and the rooms above the lobby in several tiers along the cliff. There is a quaint cablecar that goes up and down the hill on a metal track so you don't have to climb the steep steps if you don't want to. Lots of people complain that the cable car doesn't work. It does, but it takes some effort and attention to figure out how to get it to go. Several times I saw other hotel guests walk away in annoyance, complaining how it doesn't work as they begin the hike up the hill to their rooms. I step up and try it and it works just fine. Ask the hotel staff instead of trying to figure it out on your own.

Rats around property and white ants in rooms, and water leaks in room and a/c needs service.
8.0
Conveniently located with a nice pool. Room was massive. The lift was working, thank goodness, because our room was in the final building up the hill. The water went off sometimes in the evenings, but we just had to delay our showers. Will stay here again

Wifi only in the lobby (room-charge)
Meals take forever!!! Especially friday’s pizza (best to pre-order)
Staff very slow and inefficient
Friday (sometimes even saturday) night - very loud music till early morning!!!!!!!!!
I liked the funny cable car
Good AC in the room

Friendly front desk, comfortable large room on the "top" floor reachable by funky funicular or 150 or so steps. Some dripping water issues in bathroom, and TV largely decorative, but a/c worked well and room even had a fridge and microwave. Could have provided bottle of water. By Solomon standards, fairly good value for money. Restaurant also good, if service a bit fumbling.

towels in this room
1st night - no milk in fridge for tea / coffee

advertisement)
2nd night - NO WATER again to shower, toilet etc etc
2nd night - Still no phone to call reception

We have lived and worked in the Pacific Islands for 34 years, so we’ve had many opportunities for stays in the various countries of the Pacific. While the people of Honiara are very kind, the city is not as enjoyable, due to the incredible traffic, dusty streets, and unimaginable construction of large buildings from foreign investments. Even so, the King Solomon Hotel was a very pleasant respite from all the negatives of the city. The staff (front desk, housekeeping, restaurant, and maintenance) were all very helpful and kind, with each doing their work very well. Next, the price per night offered value for the large bedrooms and housekeeping did an outstanding job of cleaning the room daily during our 9 day stay. The resturant’s food was delicious. (breakfast & lunch) and those working in the restaurant were very enjoyable and willing to help in any way needed. Prices at the restaurant are moderate. The front desk employees would never miss greeting guests as they would come & go. Our room was spacious and included a balcony. The AC worked very well with the daily hot temperatures outside. Again, we are regular visitors to the Solomon Islands…..and we look forward to again staying at King Solomon Hotel!

Looks like it needs some maintenance

Centrally located. Rooms are pleasant, with funicular to get up and down. Service indifferent at times and no entertainment (in contrast with publicity materials in the rooms). No free wifi in the rooms. Pool attractive. If small. Price better than other quality options.

The conditions of the rooms vary in this property. I stayed in two different rooms during my stay this time. The first room did not have a good A/C and the room was a little old. However, the second room appeared to be well-maintained and the A/C was in working condition. The price was the same for both.
The hotel buildings sit on a steep hill, so the guests use a cable car to go to their rooms. It is a fun experience.
6.0
The hotel consists of many cottages built on a steep hill. You can go to your room using stairs but you can also use a cable car. I believe it is the only "railway" in the country.
The A/C in the room was not strong enough to cool down the terrible heat. If you require a nice and cool place to have a rest and sleep, you should stay in a better and pricier hotels located nearby.

Beautiful Sea View, Secluded, quiet, and good privacy. Friendly staff.

It’s a unique hotel. Very well designed in a unique way. The restaurant is located at the lobby. They make fresh pizza every night! Once a week they have live music/ culture dance. It’s cool place. I enjoyed my stay!!

The grounds were amazing, cool pool, good food, and very cool "elevator"
3.0
There's no internet access in the rooms - only in the lobby, where there's no AC - and it's so slow as to be unusable anyway. Many web pages won't load properly due to timeouts. Downloading anything non-trivial - even just some ebooks - is impossible.
The Seaview room was… sufficient. The hotel is back from the water, up on a hill - and the water isn't much to look at anyway. No sandy beaches or palm trees, but rather industrial and polluted.
The room had AC but also crappy shutter-style windows that didn't close properly, so there was a bit of leakage of the cool air.
There were a lot of sugar ants around the room, and they got into all my luggage. They're largely harmless, provided they don't nest in any of your belongings.
The cable car that serves as the elevator, essentially, is slow and unreliable. There are stairs as an alternative but in the high humidity you really don't want to use those, especially while carrying luggage.
There's essentially nothing of interest around the hotel. A few local markets and precious few restaurants.
Overall it was tolerable for one night but I was pretty much bored stupid.

I liked the friendly staff. Need better time management during meals.

We booked the hotel on the rate with breakfast included but the staff said it is not included. A lot of ants in the room. No hot water. When we checked out, the rate on the invoice is different from the rate we got from expedia. Terrible experience.

I have emailed you on the breakfast which is supposedly included but the hotel staff said you did not update it . Buffet breakfast was included before Covid . Now it is excluded and I have asked for compensation but did not even hear from your side

When I booked , condition is included breakfast.
But they Billed to me.
I many times explained to them, but never heard my words….

It was good except my placement in an unsuitable room, right next to a noisy water pump that kept me awake much of the first night. Also, the shower did not work, with the water coming from a hose that wasn’t mounted overhead. Needless to say, I requested an alternative room, which I promptly received.

The facilities are so-so for an overprized stay. The service at the counter are always nice, but that's all. No one will follow simple instructions as "do not enter my room" and the dinner service is awfull. They can have you sitting there the whole night and not deliver your order.

Very interesting funicular that’s used an elevator because of the steep elevation on which the hotel sits— it’s quite cool!
But it’s not easy to use. It’s slow and creeky, not as efficient as walking, especially when you have to wait for it. Got bed bugs from the incredibly bland and uncomfortable, budget room. Had no taste, less frills than a fourth grade substitute teacher.
Staff were wonderful and made up for the bed bugs and the other room stuff. Was hideously expensive considering the guest experience, but local, cute, and has potential. Clean the sheets and I’ll return.
