We booked for a single night as we wanted somewhere central in Hobart and it was a good location - short stroll down to the wharf. The receptionist was lovely and friendly! After we booked, we realised that they clarified the rooms do NOT have their own bathrooms - shared bathrooms for the entire floor. I couldn't be bothered cancelling so we still went as I figured it was only one night and not a big deal. I have to admit it DID feel like a big deal - very awkward to have to run into the hall every time to use the bathroom or shower! And no kettle or anything in room except small fridge - though reception did give us mugs when we asked. Water is from a central facility in the hallway. So... cute fun retro vibe, kind of felt like a backpackers hostel but without the backpackers! Lovely staff and service but yeah the bathroom thing was just a bit too weird for me (not being a youth anymore!)

Well located, very clean, but room was sparse, just the basics – not even a television or a sink. Shared bathroom and toilet - a travel back in time to the 1800s when it was built. Friendly staff, but reception sometimes not manned during stated hours. Luggage storage facility was left unlocked – no security against theft. I was generally happy with my stay – but I thought the price was way too high for what was offered - for a little more I could have had a room with TV and own facilities elsewhere.

Hotel Alabama was perfect for my one night stay in Hobart. Very helpful and friendly staff, a welcoming environment, and a comfortable room. Even though it was a shared bathroom it was very tidy and I never had to share the space with anyone. They provided glass jugs of water and cups in the hallway, and luggage storage all day. Ample closet space if you want to hang clothes, and even a little desk/vanity. I would definitely stay here again. Chocolates on the pillow were a nice touch too :)

Great quirky little hotel in CBD shared bathrooms but clean and good showers.
Funky little bar with a great selection of craft beers, wines and cocktails.
Would stay again. Great location and price 🙂

Charming simple hotel that has welcomed style. Kind staff. My issue is with Expedia. Hotel never received messages sent through Expedia. Shame on big bad Expedia. I have mobility issues, and the hotel does have an elevator. If Expedia cooperated with messages, I would have known. Company only cares about profit not service. I challenge them to contact me.

Fun budget hotel. Clean, friendly. Very well run. Hipster vintage vibe to the place. Would defiantly stay again. Location right downtown.

The noise level terrible. Shared toilet and bathroom with happy hour clients. Faulty Towers on steroids!

If you like Art styled old school hotels the Alabama is for you!
It has a homely feel, the staff were excellent and the price was very reasonable

Unique hotel with a good vibe! Rooms were super spacious and the shared bathrooms were surprisingly clean and empty whenever we needed them. Staff were friendly and willing to help out with our requests!! Would come again :)

Love the funky lounge vibe decor and artworks. Feels like being at home. The friendly staff and Narla the resident dog made for a very comfortable stay. Will stay again. Very conveniently located to all Hobart attractions and local eateries and distilleries.

Well situated in the city. The staff is nice and the guess room is cool. The room are not quiet and the carpet smell. The toilet are shared (only one for men per floor).
This place is overpriced!

We had 7 nights at the Alabama, the staff were absolutely amazing. Our room was just what we needed, bed was so comfortable and the lounge/bar area was our go to of an afternoon to relax with a glass of wine in there gorgeous retro style bar and balcony. Can’t wait for our next stay ☺️ Thanks again

It's set up like a hostel with shared bathrooms but your room is private. No TV in the room so it's only useful as a place to sleep but not chill and relax.

We enjoyed the lounge and the clean, functional rooms. We did not enjoy the noisy patrons who seemed unable to turn a doorknob - thus banging every door used.
We also did not enjoy being next to the mens bathroom, which was used at all hours throughout the night and very early morning.
We found our room to be quite dingy, but the overall cleanliness, friendliness and central location was great.

Staff was friendly and helpful. Check in hours are limited and for some reason I hadn’t received the text message with check in information, but since I arrived within check-in hours, that was quickly resolved.
I stayed for one night only, the bed was comfortable and room clean and matching the description. Central location.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Alabama. The bed was comfy and the showers hot. Admittedly we did miss the radio and television even if to catch up on the news, but we survived, it gave us a break. And the stairs gave us great exercise too 😆,
Many thanks,
Graham & Wendy

Property was fine. It’s kind of like an up market Hostel. Over priced for what it was. I didn’t know the property only has shared bathrooms (they were clean though)

The place itself was clean and quirky. Staff were excellent with public holiday checkin. Only complaint is Wotif wasn’t very clear with advertising that this place has shared bathrooms
5.0
Great quirky, affordable accommodation. Even though share bathrooms, the quality of the “whole” place and the way they’ve decorated it enables you to look past that because the rest is just fab!

Alabama is an ok hotel:
+: very well located, friendly staff
-: no elevator and you need to climb at least one level to reach the rooms.
-: No private shower nor a sink in the rooms. We knew it in advance but anyway, with the price per night we had to pay (christmas period) the value for money is low
-: there is a nice lounge but it closes at 8pm, or 7 pm during public holidays
The Alabama is a fancy hoStel
