manager is very nice, however the hotel is not accessible by foot when the roads are flooded (which is often on this island)

We had high hopes, but the trip was a disaster. Literally covered from head to toe in mosquito bites. No way to leave the property in foot without getting shredded with bites and dodging mosquito infested waters. Great pity. Franco tried his best, but it was hopeless.

Beautiful property and wonderful staff! Would definitely recommend and we will be back!

El Nido is a lovely boutique hotel in Holbox, away from the hustle and bustle of the island. The pool is lovely and the hotel has a really nice decor, with spacious rooms. I really enjoyed the quietness of the place, especially in the evenings!
One thing to flag is that is a bit away from the centre of the island, so you either have to walk or take taxis (around 200 pesos per taxi) which is a bit inconvenient at times. The closest beach is 5 minutes away at Punta Coco however if you want to go to other beaches, is a bit of a walk

The hotel itself was very quiet and well appointed. Large rooms and everything worked well. Staff was lovely and breakfast was very nice. I tend to get up early the staff brought me coffee before the 8am breakfast time. Only real disappointed was the golf cart rental. We rented a golf cart for several days and the hotel charged much more for it than if we rented directly. We also asked if we could rent on for less than a 24 hour period. We were told that was the min time...found out we could have rented for a shorter time period.

El Nido Staff were warm, caring, friendly, & so helpful with suggestions & local knowledge. making suggestions for us to explore on our own which we love to do. They were also available and willing to arrange any and every detail (which they handled with perfect, ease-filled results) . Breakfast & afternoon snacks & drinks were prepared with great attention to our special allergy needs & preferences. Fresh individually prepared Breakfasts included. Full restaurant services were not available when we were there. Surroundings were elegant AND comfortable & casual, a superb combination! The pool was sparkling, the grounds hand groomed,. Rooms tended with care. This intimate boutique hotel is our idea of Aaaah! We loved the location, quiet & serene.

Decided to splurge and stay for two nights at El Nido. It was absolutely beautiful and peaceful. It is in a very quiet spot (we did have to traverse a few big puddles to get there after the big flood the week before) but soooooo worth it. Although off the beaten path there were some accessible restaraunts a short walk up the beach. Breakfast was tasty, staff friendly, drinks from the bar good! Overall would highly recommend! Was the highlight of our trip to Mexico. Will dream of our return one day!

I loved this property, beautiful design, clean, friendly and welcoming staff. It’s a short walk from a beach that looks wild - which I appreciated. The staff was friendly and helpful. Also, unlike the properties downtown that blast loud music that no human should be exposed to-you could actually get good sleep at this hotel as it’s in a peaceful location.

Great place to stay, staff were incredibly nice.

We booked a balcony room, but upon initially seeing it we felt it lacked some basic hotel amenities I would expect for the price, including a full length mirror, fridge and desk w/chair. The staff were great at relocating us to a patio room that had the above amenities (except the fridge).
We unfortunately arrived to rain storms, and Holbox isn’t well equipped for this type of weather. Nearly every road in the town flooded making travel around the island very difficult and expensive. El Nido is around a 25min walk into the centre of town but with the flooding, the walk was much more difficult and taxis were reluctant/refused to take us to and from the hotel.
Another qualm was the food. Whilst breakfast was good, we had lunch there. We felt it was below average and very expensive for what it was. We previously ate at Nomad (a 15min walk) where the food was far superior and more affordable.
My final issue is with their payment facilities, they only accepted cash, whilst Holbox has a reputation for cash only, we actually found that every other restaurant or beach club we visited accepted cards. The cash only policy is out-dated.
The review might sound harsh, but let me assure you that every other element of our stay was great. The staff were helpful and kind, the rooms cleanliness was spotless and pool facilities were great. We also appreciated the quietness and privacy of our room.
A couple improvements could make El Nido an exceptional stay.

A peaceful, immaculately designed and decorated retreat with a highly attentive and welcoming staff, good food, and excellent lounging and pool spaces. Staff constantly checked in on us to make sure we were cared for, and the breakfasts were wonderful — coffee, fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries, and a selection of made-to-order plates. We also had a quick lunch before checking out that was tasty. Rooms are minimalist but had all of the necessities, including great fans and AC units. The pool and lounge areas were a real highlights for sure — great vibes for relaxing, reading, and hanging out, just bring or buy some bug spray.
Some important to note things about hotel location and the island in general: the hotel is located in a more remote area of the island, so it’s super peaceful and serene with easy access to the bioluminescence bay, but it takes some work to get into town — either a 10-15 min walk or slightly shorter by side-by-side taxi (~250MXN one way). This also means there are more bugs, mosquitos especially, but the staff offers bug spray for purchase. It had rained the day before we arrived, so many of the roads had 4-12” deep puddles spanning the entire width which made walking to town challenging. Good hikers or heavy duty water shoes like Chacos would be great to have.

We had a wonderful stay in El Nido. Beautiful accommodation with very friendly staff.
The hotel is not near the center but if the streets are good you can walk over. Otherwise you can just take the funny taxis.
Thank you guys for three wonderful days

The hotel and staff were both excellent, surpassing expectations. The natural design beautifully reflects the environment, enriching the serene atmosphere. It’s just far away from town not to be inconvenient. Loved it.

By far our favorite hotel in Mexico during our two week road trip. Perfect service, with a lot of attention to detail, from raking sand throughout property to fluffing pool cushions, the team makes this a perfect little oasis away from the hustle of town. This leads to my only improvement suggestion - room rates should come with free bike rental included, which they currently charge at 300$ per person per day! Given the distance from town, you dont really have any other option.

Positive:
Close to Punta Coco
Negative:
AC only from 10pm-7am
Breakfast menu limited to 5 choices
Far from the center

This hotel is away from the hustle and bustle of the centre. We loved this property because you really get the sense that they care about their guests. Every single employee was friendly and they could basically write a customer service manual for most hotels. Do not expect to watch tv in your room (because they are no TVs). The pool was immaculate. The drinks were strong but not too much. You really are paying for the customer service and friendliness. Our room was clean, large, and the bed was very comfortable. The restaurant can offer some vegan options but the absolute BEST part of the hotel was Carlo, the french bulldog. Every morning he sat on the patio and greeted all guests with a larger than life french bulldog personality. 5/5 would recommend this place

I have no words about this property it is unreal. We enjoyed it a lot. Everything was impeccable and staff was very helpful and on point as always. Two things I would consider staying here it is a bit away from the center so thing about taxis and transportation as well as no beach club and restaurant (Restaurant coming) . It was adventurous though and we got to choose whatever we wanted to do. Would stay here again!

The property was at one end of the island - far from center of town. So, very quiet. Be prepared to walk or take taxi. But know that the roads on Holbox are not good - very uneven and filled with potholes. So be prepared.

This place is as beautiful or more than I expected, it is like a Vogue photo shoot and any Instagrammer’s dream!
It is fairly far from the centre of town though and the road is long and bumpy and dirty so it’s not walkable as I thought it might be.
You can rent bikes for $200 pesos a day at the hotel but they’re pretty rough or a golf cart taxi is also $200 pesos one way.
A lovely breakfast is included and some light lunch options but for dinner you need to go out and there’s only one restaurant that is walking distance otherwise you have to go to Centro likely. Hotel HK with its fourth floor rooftop restaurant is great though for a quick nearby option.
My biggest negative is that the AC was only available between 10 PM and 6 AM due to it being eco-friendly and using solar panels.
The two guys running the front desk were amazing and super helpful!
