Amazing stay! Fabulous room. Comfortable furnishings that feel like home. Our third visit, and each time is better than before.

The property was exceptionally clean and comfortable. Great location in a very beautiful neighborhood. Perfect for a quiet two night stay. We were very pleased with our stay.
4.7
Stayed 2 nights and found to be exactly as advertised and reviewed. Easy check in and properly access, clean and comfortable. It is also situated perfectly for easy access to all the popular destinations in the area. Wonderful option over hotels. Will definitely stay here again!

The place was fantastic! We stayed 3 nights and everything went the way we wanted.

Absolutely stunning home and property!!

Outstanding!! Top the heap!! The only place that I have ever stayed that I consider to be too good for me! Off the charts excellence in a way that I am not familiar with. I would like everyone whom I care about to stay ay the Salyard's Mansion. A very timeless international old world feel and charm. I would drive hours to stay here and I did. I could NOT be happier!!

When the forecast predicted storms for our Memorial Day weekend camping trip, my husband and I scrambled to shift our plans from tent to hotel. We stumbled upon the Salyards Mansion and could not have been more impressed with our stay. Our suite was so cozy, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and the living area/porch made for the perfect place to enjoy a meal and play card games. Parking was easy and we enjoyed an evening on the hammock in the yard. Next time we'll have to bring swimsuits and use the sauna! Thank you for a great weekend.

This was my second time staying in the ryerson suite. The tub is wonderful we saw plenty of deer outside, good parking. The bed is comfortable. I loved the provided shampoo etc.
I did have a few issues this time. Many ants on the window sills, the bathroom and above the fireplace. Im sorry to say it but the worst hard tiny pillows. Consider investing in some nicer and king sized pillows. I also experienced a lot of noise compared to last time. The room next to us sounded like they were moving furniture around at 10pm. There were also thundering little feet in the halls much of the evening. I thought that the rooms were all 2 person only occupancy. So I was surprised to see a family with 2 little kids as the source of all that noise. That being said I’d still stay again. Probably bring my own pillows though!

The property was absolutely gorgeous. Every room in the house is beautiful. I stayed in the Ryerson Suite and it was spacious, and lovely. There was a cozy porch and sitting area with a tv that I sadly didn't have much time to spend in though it had a beautiful view of the grounds. The view from my room allowed for a peek at Lake Superior and a gorgeous sunrise view. I would love to stay there again on my next Duluth visit.

All we can say is WOW! Very beautiful rooms! The jetted tub was a great relaxing point after a busy day. The beds were very comfortable! Super clean! Will definitely stay here again!

It was a great location; the accommodations were very comfortable and clean; the service was excellent!

my fiancée and i stayed in the north shore retreat room. it was nice and quiet during our stay, likely because we arrived mid-week during a pretty nasty storm, but we didn’t mind; the quiet was welcome! our room was cozy and we enjoyed reading the tidbits of history about the mansion during our stay. we also appreciated the folder detailing things to do or see in the area as it gave us some ideas on things to do and try! our only issue was that the wifi wasn’t really working so when we tried to watch movies they’d stop playing but we just used my hotspot instead (and weren’t too fussed as, like i said, we arrived during a storm). :) all in all, beautiful mansion and wonderful atmosphere! we enjoyed the cleanliness and coziness of our room and my fiancée loved the jetted tub (it was her one want)! we would love to stay at salyards mansion again in the future!! :)

We totally loved our luxury room at Salyards. Nice bathroom, cozy bathtub/shower combo, wonderful fireplace. Location was quiet. We also appreciated the ease of getting in and out, location was great for our visit with friends who live in the area. Thanks! I do recommend.

This was our second stay and the room was very cool. Breakfast was a bit lacking but the rest was great.
4.7
A great old mansion, well managed by an offsite company. No hosts onsite

The Salyards Mansion was an elegant and peaceful stay. It felt like we were back in time. The room was super clean. We will definitely stay here again in the future!

We had a lovely visit to Salyard’s Mansion in Duluth! The Ryerson Suite, and the mansion itself, was charming and cozy. As a “boutique hotel” it’s NOT a bed and breakfast. They did have coffee, tea, yummy homemade muffins, scones, etc. in the foyer in the morning. The living room was decorated very nicely and the all-season porch had places to sit and visit.
The building felt safe with codes to enter, and we were free to come and go without bothering anyone.
Our suite had its own sitting room and fireplaces in each room. Dozens of small touches made our stay perfect! We will be back to Salyard’s Mansion!
4.7
It is NOT a bed and breakfast as advertised and felt taken advantage of that by the listing. It states it is a boutique hotel but our bed was never made up daily, towels were not exchanged and only one creamer in the room. NEVER saw a staff person. The room was cramped as too much was in it

It was lovely the first night that we had the whole house to ourselves ! Great that the caretaker was on site. The house was very clean, well cared for and attractive. My ONLY concern was the radiator in our room was not working and thus we used the fireplace in our room as the source of heat. The next day they sent a technician and attempted to do repairs but needed someone skilled in radiator repair. They offered a space heater which was electric and we decided to use the gas fireplace for the duration of our stay. Otherwise our stay was excellent and we plan to return to Salyards Mansion !!
4.7
Wonderful, we stayed in the carriage house and would go for tea in the morning to the main house. Very beautiful. We went during the week and November so we had the carriage house with no neighbors. We enjoyed it.
4.7
Fantastic propriety. Great weekend getaway.
4.7
There was a lovely family of deer that would periodically rest in the backyard, during the morning. Their presence made our experience magical.
4.7
I know it’s an old mansion but it would be good to have handicap accessible bathroom.
4.7
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here. The house is beautiful, everything seemed clean. We saw deer in the garden at dusk and a friendly kitty in the gazebo. The neighborhood is great too. We will definitely consider staying again. Only issue was our shower head had a pretty major leak and sprayed all over when it was on.

I wanted to stay somewhere nice other than a basic hotel. The Salyard Mansion came up in my search. I had never heard of it and was very pleased to reserve a room for 2 nights. It was beyond my expectations. We stayed in the Ryerson Suite and was totally impressed that we had a separate sitting /sunroom area. Very cozy to relax in the evening by the fireplace. We enjoyed the coffee and pastries in the morning and sat in the mainfloor sunroom and in the evening sat for a bit in the huge living/sitting area by the fireplace. This boutique hotel is very quiet in the beautiful Congdon area of Duluth. We heard nothing, so peaceful. The kingsize bed was very comfortable.
We would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend.

The location, very close to where my grandparents once lived, was my reason for staying here. However, there were many problems with the place. The access to our room over the carriage house was very difficult -- steep, narrow staircase with two turns and very inadequate railing, especially at the top. Would not have chosen to rent this room if I had known. Also lacks an emergency exit. One window was large enough to get through but high off the ground. In other words, potential deathtrap. Escape ladders for the windows should be provided immediately. The room had a large TV mounted where it was virtually impossible to view and did not function well either. Brochure in room was first revelation that only a small "breakfast snack" was provided. If I had known, I would have brought more food. There was really no hosting and information one might expect like maps of the area or bus route information was not provided. Very unwelcoming atmosphere in general. Although the room had a fridge and microwave, no plates at all were provided in the room. Because we did not have a car, to eat the Chinese food we had delivered, we had to borrow a couple of tiny plates from the breakfast setup in the main mansion.

Never saw 1 person from the staff. Had to make mutiple phone calls just to check in and recieve a codes for the doors. Pastry was from Sams club and was not fresh. However, room was nice.
4.7
Truly a unique experience that was worth the premium price. We stayed in the Lake Superior Suite, which was the main floor of the Carriage House, behind the main building. A wonderful perk of the suite is the massive private deck overlooking the property. It was close to main roads, which made for easy navigation around Duluth. The area itself is very serene and made for great after dinner walking and site-seeing.
4.7
The room was very nice. The bathroom fan didnt work so that was disappointing. Its also weird checking in with no one there. Lighting outside didnt work all the time and very dark getting to the front door especially with work being done to the steps. The bed was very comfortable and the tv room was nice to have. Very cool staying in a mansion. Appreciated the booklet with the history.

Wonderful getaway in Duluth

They use lock pads on the doors for access, the door to our room was difficult to get to lock (had to pull the door towards you to get it to lock properly). Then we were leaving to go to dinner and the batteries were dying on the keypad and it set off a low battery alarm that proceeded to go off for 45 min extremely loud and we weren’t able to lock our door for over an hour because there’s no staff on-site at all so we had to call the assistance line and they said they would call us back in a couple min and 40 min later I called back and they said the maintenance guy was on his way ….but he lived 30 min away. Our room was as expected but there was hair in the shower from the last person who stayed there, there was water left over in the ice bucket from the last person, and used plastic utensils under the bed from the last person as well. Overall the room was cute, the bed was super comfortable, it was nice they supplied Netflix and Hulu but when we tried to watch there were too many people on the account so it was useless for us, but I’d like to warn anyone that there are no staff onsite which made our stay aggravating at times, and I think the cleaning crew should pay a little more attention to detail, and the NOISE TRAVELS IN THIS MANSION you hear creaks and conversations from the rooms around you. Not to mention someone has a baby that cried for 2 hours during the night during our stay.

Well maintained property. Very pretty historic house that has proper updates to make it comfortable.
Curious about the all the pineapple decor throughout the shared space.
4.7
This is a beautiful property--we enjoyed our stay very much. However, we didn't get our check-in instructions prior to check-in. We called after check-in time and were provided the instructions at that time. Also, the room we stayed in leaked by the backdoor and the window by the tub.

Unique property - great history and comfy room!
4.7
I know that is a historical mansion but the stale and musty smell is overwhelming. It did have beautiful antiques. Overall it was relaxing. Thank you.
4.7
This is a dream property. You feel like you’re living in a historical mansion that has been beautifully restored. Fireplace in the bedroom was magic
4.7
It’s very close to the lake but not quite walkable if you don’t mind a short drive. It’s quiet and very relaxed. Anytime we come to Duluth from not on just the two of us this is where we will stay! The Lake Superior suit was absolutely beautiful and perfect for a getaway.
4.7
Nice upscale suite in a residential neighborhood at a shopping mall, 2 1/2 star suite rate.
Definitely coming back.
