Location close to the centre of Tavira. Nice garden and a salt water pool with wooden loungers but plastic covers.
Some of the photos on booking.com are not reflective of the property now. There is no reception or communal area. You have to walk into town to buy drinks and food. We arrived after a long journey - not even a bottle of water and the fridge in the room wasn’t even plugged in. We were then given a long list of rules - including how to use a drinking glass! The owner lives downstairs and rents the 3 bedrooms above. We asked for an extra pillow because we had one very small one each but he didn’t have any. Told us to use a knitted cushion instead. The bed covers are woolly and don’t get washed in between stays - you get a view of the washing. Read the small print as there is no cleaning - fresh towels on a chair outside on day 4 and that is it. No kettle, just a glass each that is not changed so is grubby. Balcony would have a nice view of river but has canvas ‘sails’ over which flap in the wind all night. Main issue was electricity went off on 2 nights so no lights or air con and impossible to open windows due to flapping noise and a door that couldn’t be secured open. The lights were on all around but owner said it was a surge that had happened. The second night he admitted it was a trip switch within the building and decided to investigate by knocking on guest doors to accuse people of using hairdryers or travel adapters in the middle of the night! He knocked us up and then walked straight into our bedroom without asking when it was clear we had just been woken by him as we had been awake most of the night. Contacted customer services - nothing was resolved and this made the owner aggressive and I couldn’t relax after this. All he is interested in is his booking scores and pesters guests about this. People are frightened to leave a bad review due to the responses they will get.
We found alternative accommodation for the last night and finally relaxed.

A charming property with a very creative feel.
Brilliantly located, only a short walk into Tavira town.
It felt like a home from home, we were left to relax, which we did. Sebastiao gave us a warm welcome, he was very kind and he was able to suggest good places to visit.
The property has a beautiful pool which we had to ourselves one afternoon.
We walked to the ferry each day, probably 10 mins and then a 20 min boat ride to a lovely beach.
There is a train line close to the property, however, the train only passes once an hour and does not run between 1am and 7am. I can honestly say it didn’t bother us at all.
We hope to visit again one day which is something I don’t usually say!
We loved it all.

Lovely and quiet, Sebastiao was really helpful but gave us so much space so it felt very private. Lovely rooms with a good sized balcony and bathroom, with everything we needed. Sebastiao gave us some local recommendations and it’s just a really relaxing place to explore Tavira from.
We loved everything, thank you

I liked the place a lot. It is a vila decorated with the perfection by the owner, who is an amazing artist and a very good host. It has a beautiful garden , the swimingpool with salty water, it is in a peaceful area in the centre of Tavira. What else to wish for a nice and comfortable getaway? Yes, it is next to the railway bridge , but the train goes maybe every 1 hour during the day. Still ok. It only contributes to the charm of this place and gives the avangard touch to its incredible design.

Wonderful quirky little oasis with amazing artwork and gorgeous pool only 4 minutes walk along the river. Sebastiano the owner very helpful and kind giving us great suggestions for beaches and restaurants- very hard to leave this little place - be aware that he no longer does breakfast but there’s a lovely balcony fridge and kettle so can make own or great cafes nearby

A lovely colorful small Inn that is just bursting with character and artful touches. it was exceptionally clean and well maintained. Located just a few minutes by foot to the historic quarter and principal restaurant areas. Some reviews commented on the train noise. We did not find it to be bothersome. Since the windows are dual lane and our room was climate controlled, the occasional passing trains did not bother. a lovely balcony and view. abundant free parking immediately adjacent to the hotel and also very near the hotel about a block away.
Small’ish 135cm bed and no power outlets near the bed for use of bed stand appliances. No tea or coffee provided for the kettle and cups in the room. This would’ve been a nice touch given that there are no breakfast places within a few blocks and wasn’t available at the property during the dates of our visit.

Sebastao is a good host with high standards. The room we had was his best with a nice little balcony looking out to the river and a quiet road. Very clean. Excellent breakfast served with a smile. There is a train that passes on the bridge overhead every 1/2 hour to an hour which gives 3 seconds of noise. It stops after midnight until 7am. Not a problem for us. Easy and pleasant walk of only a few minutes to the centre of town. We recommend a stay here.
Don’t like shower curtains. Cling to you when showering in a small cubicle.

Nicely located within an easy walk to the centre, quiet except for the train once in a while but it didn't affect our sleep. The manager Sebastiano is quite a character and full of useful tips on what to do in the area. The property is a refreshing change from the usual hotels with it's artsy style.

An absolutely wonderful stay in a lovely location. Excellent breakfast with lovely background music on the terrace. Sebastiou has created a little haven for his guests. Surrounded by beautiful artwork, this little place takes you away from the monotony of everyday life and transports you into a wonderland of imagination. The attention to detail is second to none. The owner’s artistic and innovative talent is evident everywhere in this property. Svetlena and Sebastiou are wonderful hosts and so welcoming. Nothing is too much. The property is close by to all of Tavira’s attractions. The roof-top pool is a wonderful experience, in a beautiful setting. If you are looking for a unique experience, then this little gem is the place for you. Every detail in the property has significance and has been constructed with passion, creativity, and joy. I had a beautiful garden view from my balcony which was quiet and secluded. I cannot recommend this property enough. An overall enchanting experience. I will definitely be back. Thank you so much for such kindness and warm hospitality.

Wonderful room with a balcony in a lovely setting by the river right in the middles of the picturesque town of Tavira. Wonderful host and brilliant breakfast. Had a great time and sleep - the trains are not a problem!

Unique space centrally located in Tavira, walking distance to town with parking available.
The owner of the property made my mother and I very uncomfortable, did not respect physical boundaries and made sexual remarks.

Pool area brilliant. Big rooms, air con efficient, lovely breakfast and great location - quiet but 5 minutes walk to centre of town. Great to have a fridge for drinks too.

Lovely, comfortable and nicely decorated place. Everything is carefully thought-out and designed with taste. The hosts are gentle, warm and welcoming. More than recommended, Tavira Inn is quite above the other accomodations in Portugal.

Totally fell in love with this place! The love and attention in every detail is admiring: the creativity of interior design, the lighting and art objects, the quality of breakfast, the abundant garden and shiny pool… As a photographer I couldn’t resist making photos even though i’m on vacation and supposed having a break from shooting.
Thank you Sebastian and Svitlana :))

Lovely breakfast plentiful, beautiful tranquil pool with comfortable sunbeds I had the pool to myself most of the time which was bliss. Short walk to centre, lovely balcony by the river, owners always smiling helpful and friendly.
Mattress on beds a little firm for me.

We really enjoyed sitting by the pool and spent quit a few hours there.
The fresh orange juice for breakfast was delicious, the fresh fruit platter was so full we use to save some for later in the day sitting by the pool. The bakery products were always fresh nicely presented and very tasty.
Sebastian and Svetlana were always so cheerful as they served us our breakfast each morning.
I'm not a supporter of service staff wearing face masks.

Lovely hotel, pool excellent and good temperature. Breakfast could fill me for days. Location really good - very close to main town and short walk to pier for boats to nature reserve/beaches. Sebastiao and Svetlana attentive and welcoming hosts.

The pool, air con, wifi, location
We stayed in Tavira Inn around 2013. The place hasn’t changed since. It remains a lovely building, with an attractive garden surrounding the saltwater pool. 'Art' is subjective. The owner facilitated early check in and overnight bicycle storage.
This time we had three nights in a balcony room. We knew the owner was eccentric but he's disimproved since; constant questions, interruptions, are we enjoying ourselves, is the place beautiful. The questions continued at breakfast. A generous plate of fruit, fresh orange juice and coffee in a flask, a pale mini baguette with a slice of pale plastic cheese and a doughy mini croissant with a slice of ham inside. Both the baguette and the croissant looked like they’d come out of a LIDL vacuum pack. Finished with a chocolate chip biscuit from a packet. Given the quality of the local bread and cheese, this was disappointing. If I'd said anything I imagine we would've been kicked out the first day.
The problem for us began on the second day when we mentioned the thermostat on the mini fridge wasn’t working properly. Liquids remained cool but never cold and the water in the ice cube tray did not freeze. He wanted to go to the room immediately. We wanted to finish our breakfast. That annoyed him. When he did come, he checks the fridge, announces it is working. We reiterate that there is some chill but not enough to form ice cubes. He tells us it’s a fridge not a freezer, laughing. It's hard to get him out of the room. The next morning on our way to breakfast, he runs up to us spoiling for a fight - he hopes we're not going to complain about the aircon not working given that we'd left the outer balcony door open. We weren't. I return to close it. He follows uninvited and the same argument over the fridge starts again. Except this time he's angry and yelling. We're upset, we pack up and leave immediately. Check his response to other reviews that are less than perfect. 'Adults Only'?

Lovely little oasis in Tavira. Svetlana was lovely and gave us beautiful breakfasts. Fantastic pool and small but comfy rooms.
No issues at all for us. Train runs from 7 in the morning till late at night but more of a novelty than a nuisance.

Everything! The best inn in Tavira and perhaps Portugal! Innkeepers Sebastiao and Svetlana run an impeccably welcoming and fascinating inn. We felt as though we were staying with good friends or close family.
The eclectic artwork was such a treat for the senses. Much of it was done by Sebastiao and his family. Other pieces were done by guests of the inn.
Breakfast was wonderful and included. House-made and artfully served, the variety of fresh fruits, the tastiest and coldest fresh orange juice, overflowing and delicious coffee, and ham and cheese croissants were a great way to start the day. Served personally by the innkeepers, along with a homemade (by the innkeepers) and delicious pastry topped it all off. Sebastiao and Svetlana were fun and informative. An added bonus was the beautifully curated breakfast area with indoor seating and a lovely covered patio with a river view. Sebastiao treated us further by sharing his extensive collection of some of the best jazz and classical music my husband and I have ever heard during this peace-filled breakfast time. Thank you, Sebastiao! We could have stayed on that patio all morning!
The rooms are cozy and the bed was comfortable. We had a lovely patio that faced the river and the wonderful town of Tavira.
The location of Tavira Inn is very walkable. We came in by bus, which is about a five minute walk to the inn. There are restaurants and shops close by, yet you feel as though you're staying in some secluded and magical secret artists' colony.
The salt water pool is so inviting and for me, very Zen-like. We found the pool patio quiet and relaxing. Comfortable seating surrounds the pool and the carefully and lovingly planted gardens are just beautiful.
Bottom line, if you like ordinary, don't stay here. If you expect and deserve an extraordinary experience and not just a sterile hotel experience, Tavira Inn is the place for you! Maybe we'll see you there!
We loved it all!
It was an experience, not just a hotel stay.

The location was easily accessible and close to the historical centre. There was free parking available on site. The quality of the fruit at breakfast was very good. The pool area was very inviting.
We felt the bathrooms could use a bit more love as they seemed a bit outdated.

We enjoyed the food & atmosphere at breakfast. Location was fantastic and we loved the pool area. Short walk into the city center. The train overhead was loud when we sat outside, but with a fan on in our room at night, we barely heard it. Parking was also very convenient.

unique little place very close to restaurants and beach ferry
Sebastiao , the host , was very helpful.
The breakfast, although good, was set and contained butter which we don’t like. Should have been asked on entry if we were intolerant to anything

Delicious breakfast, beautiful pool area surrounded by wonderful planting. It felt like a tranquil oasis. The trains passing only interrupted that for a few seconds and were not an issue for us. We had a room with a balcony and we loved the pretty river views. Only a short enjoyable riverside walk into Tavira. The place was immaculately clean and Svetlana and Sebastiao were wonderful hosts. It is a very unique property the interior is rustic in style and staying there was so much more enjoyable than if we had chosen a large contemporary but impersonal hotel. We loved being there so much we would love to go back. Staying in Casa do Rio was a wonderful memorable experience and Tavira itself is a very pretty town.
The bed was firmer than usual because it had a latex mattress but once we got used to that we slept really well.

Our stay was terrific! Property was beautiful and well-maintained, host was friendly and informative, breakfast was incredible. Loved the vibe of our room, pool area and breakfast spot. Parking was a big plus in this town.
The train running by on the hour from 6am wasn’t ideal, but not a deal-breaker.

We enjoyed the ambience of the Casa do Rio. There were thoughtful touches for the guests everywhere. The balcony of our room had a nice shade against the strong sun in the afternoon. We had a kettle to make tea. The room was comfortable and nicely decorated.
The swimming pool was lovely and it's salt water too, much better than chlorinated. We loved the breakfast. It was beautifully presented and tasty. The coffee was excellent. The hotel is a little oasis, just a very short walk from the lovely town of Tavira.
Sebastiao, the host and the lady who helps made us feel very welcome. Sebastiao is very knowledgeable about the area and possibly about many other things. We found him very likeable and a fun character.
We would definitely stay here again.
Everything was great, no complaints at all.

Everything is well designed to relax and rest. The breakfast is superb, the swimming pool is in optimal conditions, and the staff is really kind.
I cannot find something I didn't like. Maybe the location is not in the centre, but it's 7 minutes away by foot, which is acceptable.
