About this cottage rental
Our aim is to make you feel comfortable and completely at home in our 1860's cottage, which has been extensively renovated throughout. The original slate front is one of only two which still exist in the village. Two separate good size living rooms and a generous size kitchen gives plenty of family living space whatever the weather. The location is just above the harbour, away from the crowds at peak times, offering privacy yet immediate access to the village, harbour and beaches, ideal for exploring the area on foot, by bus or car. Parking for yourselves and your guests is right outside. A Stable door opens onto the private, sheltered, granite/brick courtyard with elevated lawn area. Ideal to chill out at lunchtime or spend an hour whilst the rest of your party are having a stroll or on the beach. There is both sun and shade. Pop down in two minutes for lunch with them in the pub. Prior to booking please feel free to phone for an informal chat as we want you to be totally at ease about choosing to stay in Mona's cottage. If you stay here we can offer you free unlimited parking 100yds from St. Austell railway station for train days out. Alternatively, if you would like a car free holiday we can offer you complimentary transfers to and from the railway station at the beginning and end of your holiday. We can also arrange transfers to and from Newquay Airport at nominal cost.
If you are trying to find the property on Google Earth there is no Street View as the roads in and around the harbour are all private and have not been surveyed. On the satellite view the cottage can be found by going to the top end of the harbour, look to the right to see the Shipwreck Centre. There is a road which is at right angles to the harbour running up the right hand side of the Shipwreck Centre and at the end on the opposite side there is a row of cottages on the right and a pair of cottages on the left which on the satellite view looks like a large detached property but is actually a pair of semis. The cottage is the right hand one of these.

During last two weeks in July 2024 we had spent our family holidays at Mona‘s Cottage.
We‘re from Germany and did spend several holidays in UK already, also in Cornwall. But this place is rather special. The Cottage itself is spacious for a family of 4 (including two Teenagers), is well equipped, great comfortable beds and a remarkable powerfull shower.
For the Teenagers: yes, WiFi was also strong and stable… Smart TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video if you bring your own Logins, Bluray Player with loads of DVDs etc
There is a protected patio with morning sun, which was our preferred place to enjoy breakfeast, parking at site, kitchen well equipped, too.
While Charlestown can be busy at times, this Cottage sits just on the edge, so you will always have a great great retreat with all that you need for an evening drink or dinner just steps away.
The coastal path is just around the corner and we had Walks wit outstanding views e. g. from Looe to Gribbin Head - but also directly from Charlestown to Carlyon Beach (20-30 min).
Many things to do are just around the corner. We did trips to Eden Project, Mevagissey, Looe, St Ives, Truro, Lizard Point, Fowey…. All within +/- 1h drive and much more would have been reachable within same time.
While unfortunately St Austell itself isn‘t the nicest city in Cornwall, it offers almost all supermarkets like Tesco, a 24h ASDA, Lidl and Aldi, others…
We can only recommend this place. Will definetely not forget our holidays here.

Lovely, comfortable cottage with sea view in very quiet area of Charlestown.
Had everything that we may have needed and lovely care package of wine, yeast cakes, clotted cream and milk.
Carole and her husband met us at the cottage and went through everything with us.
Would definitely stay again if the chance arose.

Such a lovely place to stay and relax with the family. Didn't need nor want anything else to make this the perfect getaway.
Perfect and friendly host

Carole was wonderful and met us at the door to explain everything. House is lovely and everything is provided. We had a little welcome package too which was very much appreciated. Charlestown is close to lots of lovely places to visit including the Lost gardens of Heligan, the Eden project and St Austells brewery. There are also lots of coffee shops, bars and restaurants close by. Highly recommended.

My wife, infant daughter and mother in law stayed here for the majority of our vacation in the UK. It was the perfect place to take day trips by car throughout Cornwall. The hosts were amazing, very responsive and accommodating. They provided additional items such as a pack n play, baby gate and bathtub for our daughter. We were traveling from the states with a little one so the extra attention to making things easier with her was greatly appreciated. Charlestown was so beautiful that we spent several days just staying there, our stay was 8 nights but we easily could have stayed a month. Would absolutely rent again if we’re back in Cornwall, Charlestown was extremely easy to drive into by car and the parking is convenient and easy at the cottage, can’t recommend enough!

Friendly hosts. Very clean. Thoughtful goodies supplied. Close to restaurants and beautiful harbour. All within walking distance.

We had a wonderful stay in this amazing cottage. Lots of room for the whole family and the amenities were great. Charlestown can be notoriously busy, but since this cottage is behind the shipwreck center it was peaceful and quiet even on a busy weekend. Loved waking up to the view of the sea in the distance. We will absolutely consider staying again on a future trip!
If I had to come up with any suggestions, I might suggest getting some bedside lamps so that kids who are afraid of the dark can have some light on all night without having to keep the overhead light on. We moved a lamp from the lounge to my daughter's room while we were there so she could have some light.
Thanks again for the use of this amazing cottage!

Lovely cottage within the village of Charlestown. Comfortable and well equipped, with pleasant outdoor areas.
The beds were comfortable and the shower great.
We enjoyed the proximity to the coastal path, and Charlestown picturesque harbour with its pubs and restaurants.
Handy for getting to Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan which were both great. Also nearby to many villages and beaches. there is so much to see in Cornwall that we didn't manage this time, which all felt within reach with a car from the cottage.
We felt the village was missing a corner/grocery shop for essentials, but the supermarkets and bakeries in St Austell are close by and straightforward to get to.

We loved the stay at Mona`s Cottage in a perfect location.
The cottage was like described and offered everything you need for a nice holiday.
The most advantage was the lovely chimney and the short distance to harbour and beach.
The friendly welcome gave us a good feeling at the cottage.

We loved staying at Mona's Cottage. It was very comfortable with a great dining table for family card games, social living room, nice outdoor courtyard and absolutely great location for exploring Charlestown, taking coastal walks, and visiting nearby sites (Eden Project is a must see). I would definitely book again!

We had an amazing time here. The cottage itself was perfect, and so was Charlestown. I wish we could have stayed longer. The hosts were very kind and made themselves available if we needed anything. On our last day here my youngest stated that the cottage felt like home. Couldn’t recommend it more!

You can't fail to enjoy Charlestown and the surrounding area with this cottage as your base. Really nice place to stay - clean and tidy and plenty of space for the six of us!

What a lovely 1800’s built cottage in Charlestown, a hidden picturesque harbour town. The stay at Monas Cottage was fantastic so central for a nice stroll onto the harbour and beach. Fabulous pubs and restaurants. The host was so attentive throughout our break, just a text message away with advice on taxis, eatery’s and general information on the area. Will definitely be back :-)

Great base to explore Cornwall.
This is a cute, cozy cottage. It's perfectly located to explore Cornwall. The house is very well appointed. The bathrooms are modern as well as the kitchen. It was perfect for us. The three bedrooms were very good size and had great views of the garden or the ocean. It's a very quiet area of Charlestown. The pizza place down the street was a fun place to hang out and eat. Overall the place was perfect for us. A few things need some attention: new towels and pillows would would be great. The furnishings and carpet in the lounge could do with a refresh.
The house is so solidly built you won't hear a thing from the outside or next door and the Wifi is so fast and consistent I was amazed. All-in-all it was a great stay in a fun cottage. Can't wait to return. PS If you want a Sunday roast at the RashleighArms get there early, they sell out fast.

A well equipped cottage in the quaint Charlestown which is an excellent location to base yourself for exploring the local area. The cottage has two double beds and a room that can be made up for two singles which was cosy but fine for Young adults. The kitchen has all you need to be self sufficient and the dining area can easily seat 6. The cottage is set back on a side road so it is very quiet. Charlestown was great with a good selection of pubs and restaurants, the nearest supermarket was only 5 mins away. Carole was very helpful and left scones on arrival.

A lovely cottage in the perfect location
We really enjoyed staying in Mona's cottage. The cottage is a good size, very clean, well furnished and nicely decorated. It is in a great location for walking around Charlestown and as a base for exploring the nearby area. Carole was very nice and got back to us on any enquiries we had and kindly provided a high chair and pack and play for our youngest child - lovely hospitality

A comfortable, well equipped cottage ideally placed for visiting Cornwall's many attractions.
We loved staying in Mona's cottage. It is ideally located for walking to the harbour, local pubs and restaurants yet tucked away and quiet. It was an easy drive to The Eden Project, Heligan and Fowey as well as the St Austel brewery. The house was clean, warm, comfortable and welcoming. All essential elements for a winter break. It was also extremely well equipped with everything needed for self catering including those essential store cupboard items. So nice to be left milk, tea, coffee biscuits and wine. Carole was extremely helpful in answering our questions and sorting out our needs before our arrival and it was good to be met by her on our arrival. She ensured we were happy with everything before she left. I would certainly like to recommend this cottage and would love to return.

Mona's cottage is situated in a fantastic location within Charlestown. You can walk to the beach in 2 minutes, the cottage is very spacious with a great view. Carole our lovely host welcomed us with Scones and refreshments, this meant we could have a drink after a long drive. The courtyard and garden area got the sun most of the day and well into the night. Would we stay here again the answer would always be YES. Thank you Carole & Malcolm we will be back.

Beautiful we equipped house with a great sunny private courtyard, and a great location close to the harbour for swimming and all the local shops and restaurants. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Cosy quiet cottage with sea view
The cosy old-style cottage was well equipped. We had quiet nights and felt happy there. Carole and Malcom were very busy to help us (including transport to the station). A lot of pubs nearby served excellent food. A great location worth to be visited again.

Lovely cottage with many facilities to make your stay comfortable. Lovely to have a small selection of goodies waiting for us on our arrival. So close to the beach! The owner was most helpful in returning any questions that we had. Would definitely recommend staying here.

Fabulous, Glorious Cornwall
Perfect location in a lovely quiet cottage just a short distance from the delightful and picturesque harbour. The cottage was just perfect and had everything you could possibly need. Can highly recommend.

Beautifully appointed cottage in an idyllic setting.
We brought some Australian visitors to visit Cornwall and the location was an ideal base to visit the surrounding areas. The cottage itself has been sympathetically modernised (but still keeping traditional features) and well decorated and furnished with everything you could wish for, especially in the kitchen. The beds were very comfortable and pretty linens were provided as well as towels. Everything was spotlessly clean.
The owner met us on arrival and could not have been more welcoming and helpful.
The fishing village itself was very picturesque with several pubs providing excellent food and other local amenities are close by with St Austell only a few minutes away.

A well equiped and cosy cottage with a view of the sea
Carole was very helpful in answering our questions promptly prior to the holiday. She also put a lovely lit Christmas tree and left a few lovely surprises to make us feel welcome.
4.9
Great location smashing house!
The cottage looks even more charming and well-lit inside than the photos suggest. It has been restored beautifully with period-appropriate detail and decorated in a clean and minimalistic (but sufficiently warm) style. Some partial to good sea views from the front bedrooms and the upper part of the garden. The house is just up the hill from the historic harbor where there are plenty of good food options for such a small village. The village is centrally located along the coast, which is helpful as the best sandy beaches are further along the coast (but in areas that were too quiet for my taste). The kitchen has perfectly adequate but not generous equipment so we cooked in several nights. Very happy with our stay and would definite book again.

Gorgeous property in a lovely village

Perfect location for exploring
Thank you Carole for a lovely stay.
