Getaway from it all and enjoy the vacation you and your family have been thinking about throughout the long cold mid-western winter in this all private, beautiful log cabin that has two bedrooms on the main floor and a second story addition which includes a master suite that would envy that of almost any luxury hotel. The two bedrooms downstairs could sleep 5 comfortably as one has a queen bed and the other has bunk beds consisting of a double on the bottom and a twin on top and a full bath that separates the two rooms, it also includes stackable washer & dryer. We added a queen bed upstairs to help accommodate more guests both beds have a door between them and are private.
The master suite has a king-size bed, standing closet, 3/4 bath including a sunken spa tub with jet ports, sink & toilet. Enjoy an unbeatable view from the master suite through an entire wall of glass that overlooks Leader Lake. If you get a little chilly at night click the fieldstone fireplace remote to get as comfy as you want or to simply enjoy the ambiance of this beautiful room with your partner. Feel the deep padded carpet beneath your feet when you take in the surroundings of this beautiful lake property from the master suite. There is also a loft upstairs separated from the master by sliding glass doors this room now has a bed in it as well as room for an air mattress to sleep more people if needed.
The main family living room has a large fieldstone gas fireplace, ceiling fan, couch, card table, and chairs to rest, talk amongst yourselves, or watch your favorite movies on the 65 inch Samsung smart tv.
If your party needs more room for sleeping bags this living area would be a great place for up to as many as 3-4 sleeping bags.
The kitchen has also remodeled (2012) to include a chef's gas stove/oven, refrigerator with water/ice, large dining table, buddy bar type serving table, a lot of natural light, and beautiful resurfaced and polyurethaned log walls and woodwork. No need to bring any of your kitchen from home as this kitchen has everything you will need when you make some of your favorite dishes from home or when you prepare your freshly caught walleye, northern, small & largemouth bass, crappies, bluegills or sunfish.
Throughout the day & evening, everyone can sit and enjoy the sites & sounds of nature from the enormous screened in front porch which measures approximately 7' x 30'. The porch also has an extra refrigerator/freezer. Enjoy your morning coffee while listening to the lake's loons singing their song or at night on the porch you can sit by the light of the moon & the stars or turn on the porch lights. Just outside the porch is a charcoal grill for your use. You can also start a fire on the beach at night just a few feet from the large dock and surround it with your favorite campfire chairs for everyone's favorites... smores.
If you're not out on the five-person pontoon, on the water in the paddle boat, canoe or fishing from the aluminum dock then why not take a nice relaxing sauna from the log cabin sauna, located just steps beyond the main cabin. The outside was left original aside from a few new nails or screws but wanted to leave the exterior with its original charm that can not be duplicated. The inside is a different story. There is a separate shower room just before entering the sauna, with new cedar-lined walls and ceiling, benches, and stove. After the sauna run if you dare to the lake for an immediate cool down in the warm water of Leader Lake.
Enjoy the 290' of sandy beach frontage, explore the property while there and pick your own blueberries (if in season), fish, swim, take a leisurely hike over the 15 acres and if you brought your ATV's or utv's ride the sandy trails that are all around the area and most of all... Enjoy yourselves and each other in the deep woods of northern Wisconsin and make the most of your hard-earned, well-deserved vacation.
And if you read all of this thank you, please don't hesitate to contact us with questions. We truly love this area and have an additional cabin on the same lake as well as a campground with a bar and restaurant just down the road.

a very nice updated cabin on a clean lake with a nice beach and sauna.

We booked this rental for our adult and teen children to join us for a week. Everyone had a wonderful time. The beach and lake are beautiful and clean. Everyone loved having the canoe, paddle boat, pontoon and floating dock to use. The fishing was great, even right off the dock. The cabin was very clean and accommodating, we had everything we needed for the whole week. It was nice to bring our dogs and have the huge front porch for them. The owner checked in a couple times to see if we needed anything which was nice. The upstairs bedroom does have a wall-less bathroom which was interesting but a beautiful view from all sides. We would love to come stay again and miss the tranquility already.

We enjoyed this cabin and Leader lake so much. Clarity of the lake is incredible. Perfect for swimming. Nice private location. Owner was very responsive. Would definitely return!

This place was everything we wanted for our 2023 summer vacation - a nice sized lake home able to accommodate plenty of family on a terrific lake. You had to love the unique and amazing second floor featuring a combined master bedroom and bath with fantastic views of the lake. Property owner Thomas was the best communicator I've encountered in my over 10 years of renting on VRBO. The lake itself was crystal clear, it really does have a clean sandy beach, peaceful, and offered steady fishing to the dedicated fisherman. If you want to have a change of pace there are plenty of things to do in and around the area (Gordon Dam Park, Solon Springs, the Pogo Harbor Inn Bar on county T) but we were just happy to stare at the lake from the full span front porch and wile away the hours until the sun fully set. This place is in a highly wooded area on a lake, and like all properties in these settings, you should come equipped with a good supply of mosquito spray and be prepared to swat a few insect friends that manage to make their way indoors with you.

The place was great except for a few things. The owner had stated he would have a new modem, NOT, no internet or TV, and even no RCA cables that would connect to the DVD player, not that big of a problem for us but your word should be good. He also stated that the boat heat alarm would sound if you idled too long, it sounded if you idled at all. Made the boat unusable for trolling. General condition of boat was poor. The house was very nice and our dog enjoyed being off leash for the entire week. The lake was nice, very clear and fishing was fun mostly off the dock.

This rental looked really nice from the pictures, and it is in a beautiful location.
Our biggest problem is that there is a severe rodent problem.
We brought groceries and had them on the counter overnight when we first got to the cabin, and the next morning they had been eaten by mice, eaten through sealed bags.... We also had a plate with crumbs left on it in the kitchen overnight, and the next morning it had mouse droppings on it.
We threw away the ruined food and sealed the remainder in our suitcases, and didn't leave anything out (after reporting it to the owner, who said in the woods that you couldn't keep them out). Well the rest of the week every morning there were new mouse droppings on the kitchen counters, on the bathroom floor, and on the shelves next to one of the beds. When changing the garbage bag we even found a dead one in the bottom of one of the garbage cans, and even found mouse droppings upstairs (at first we thought they were only on the main floor).
I'm sure the mouse problem can hopefully be fixed. I am not a stranger to rural or forested areas, and have gone to many rural Wisconsin rentals and have never had a problem like this (particularly to this degree).
Something else just to be aware of is that there are no drapes on any of the windows except in one bedroom on the first floor, even in the bathrooms which don't have privacy windows. The weird upstairs "bathroom" toilet is literally right in front of the window at toilet level. There was at least a curtain rod on the bathroom with the shower, so I was able to put a towel on it to cover the window. It is a really pretty view, especially from upstairs, but there are definitely times you want to be able to have some privacy, like when changing or going to the bathroom at least.

Place was clean and well-stocked with everything that we needed (and forgot). Beds were unbelievable comfortable, great supply of all linens, two refrigerators (NICE!), airy large porch for meals and games, beautiful lake, great pontoon for our use. We could go on and on. We have stayed at many vacation rentals and this place was awesome. THANK YOU FOR A WONDERFUL WEEK!!

The cabin needs to be cleaned. It had lots of bugs and cobwebs. The dryer didn’t work until the last few days of our stay.

We spent a relaxing week with our family at the Paine cabin. We had seven adults and never felt crowded. We spent the most time on the screen porch and enjoyed the cool breeze. Having deer, eagles, and loons to watch added to the relaxed atmosphere. The sand beach, crystal clear water, and pontoon were much appreciated. The well-stocked kitchen and large charcoal grill made meal prep easy. We are looking at future dates for a return trip!

Loved the property and woods. So relaxing to watch the deer and black squirrels in the yard. Bass Lake was calm and we used the pontoon almost daily. We loved the location as it was close to drive to sight see in Duluth MN.

We had a great time. The location was great and the cabin had plenty of room. It was very private but still only 30 minutes from downtown Hayward

Fabulous! Great location on a quaint lake. Loved our stay. Only issue for us was the Jack and Jill bathroom that separated the main level bedrooms. We got locked out several times overnight😉Would go again!

The property was great, as expected, and we had a wonderful time. Thomas was outstanding to communicate with and helped with all our questions.

The star of this cabin is the lakeshore location; the lake is sandy with clear water and not super busy with boat traffic. The pontoon was a nice bonus, it looks small but is actually a great size for this lake. Definitely take the canoe to inlet to the other lake, you will go through a magical Disneyesque lagoon to another lake that somehow is even sandier. The owner has truly thought of everything you will need to enjoy your time here. Stop loading up your car, trust me this cabin has it all!! Forgot our blue tooth speaker, bam one in the drawer; wouldn't it be nice to wake up and do yoga on the the dock?, bam yoga mat by the beach chairs. Plenty of grills to choose from, husband was obsessed with the pellet grill. I noticed when I booked the cabin, the pictures are from 2015 so I was a little nervous that it would be run down, but no, it is very well maintained and everything was immaculately clean (for a cabin that allows dogs-we did not see one dog hair from a previous guest!). Having a large master suite when hosting friends was amazing-just a place to sit and have coffee and hide away for a minute. I saw other reviews that people complained about taking their trash, I consider this the norm with any cabin...anyway the transfer station in Gordan is free (well, they said they would charge if you were a jerk, so maybe that was the other reviewer's issue?), they were super friendly and it has a small thrift shop area. The WIFI was great, reached all the way to the beach and was able to stream TV and phones no issue (the TV had Disney+ whether that was left by another guest or paid by the owner). This is a great cabin find and would definitely come back!

The Good—
Rustic, beautiful log cabin with a big yard, nice beach, and pontoon. We especially enjoyed the screened porch and the beach area. This is an excellent location for a family vacation.
The Bad—
Cleaning was not very thorough prior to our arrival. Some trash was left from the previous renters as well as their food in the refrigerator. There was also a smell of dead animal in one of the bedrooms. One of the globes covering a lightbulb fell out of a hanging light. The property manager accused us of breaking it; however, it just fell out as it was only secured by two screws instead of the standard three or four. They did not charge us for it, however. Despite the additional guest charge, which I was told was for cleaning, you are responsible for hauling your own trash to the dump—bad news if you don’t have a truck.
The Ugly—
There is something wrong with their septic tank. When we ran water or when it rained, sewage was leaking out of the top of the tank into the yard. The smell was so bad on the first night that three members of our party slept in their cars. They needed open windows in the cabin for air (since there is no AC), and the smell overwhelmed them. Two of them went home the next day. I spoke with the property manager about this. He commented that the sewage smell meant the septic was working—anyone who has ever had a septic system will tell you that the opposite of that is true, and that it presents a safety hazard. He did agree to a partial refund in exchange for a five-star review. However, he never processed my refund, and every effort from me or VRBO has not prompted him to do so. Dealing with this situation has turned this experience into the most negative travel experience I’ve had using VRBO.

We enjoyed our time at beautiful Leader Lake. We found what we were looking for in a pet and kid friendly cabin on a mostly sand bottom lake with a nice dock with decent fishing, great swimming and the pontoon included in the rental. We loved being on the screened in porch over looking the lake. We were about 30 minutes from Hayward, so on the one rainy day, we were able to go do some shopping, go to restaurants, etc. It would have been 5 stars except for a few minor maintenance / house-keeping issues. It really needs to be included in description that all trash needs to be packed out and taken to next town over's dump and the dump is only open on certain days of the week.

My boyfriend and I and our two dogs stayed here for the week and it was beyond perfect! The lake was super clear and having the pontoon was awesome! We didn't have to bring our boat. House was super cozy and the master bedroom was amazing. Can't beat a view like that! Thomas was beyond amazing too!! Will definitely be staying here again!

Beautiful lake and location. Items that did not work: shower in the sauna, oven, burners on stove lite with a huge blast of flame, cloths washer, fireplace in master suite. A lot of ashes in all wood burning items. Dead mouse smell, was the worst in master suite. Dog loved swimming.

Thomas was so easy to work with and very responsive to all of our questions both before booking and after. The house is cool inside and having the pontoon was ideal! We didn’t find anything we needed that we didn’t have there and the lake was amazing! Sunsets on the pier and a real, old school Sauna on property was unreal! Thanks for a great week away with our pups! We would have extended through the weekend but the neighbors showed with their dog which didn’t work well with our gremlins! Everyone taking advantage of warmer temps and beautiful fall colors. I think a book outlining amenities / how to use would be Helpful but Thomas was so responsive it wasn’t needed
