~Woodland Retreat~
Beech Mountain, NC, Eastern America’s Highest Town!
On the mountains, it's ALL ABOUT THE VIEW - and this home has one of the best unobstructed views year round!!!
This home is remarkably located close to everything Beech Mountain has to offer, but has the added bonus of being very private and secluded on your own mountain top at 4100+ feet on 1.5 acres! The home offers stunning panoramic mountain and valley views year round. This home is 1702 sq. ft. was built in the 70's and updated and expanded in the 90's, that doesn't take away from the comforts and amenities we've put into this older house to make your stay enjoyable! It has three (3) bedrooms (K (MBR has new King bed frame and Molecule mattress in 2020), Q, Q) all with black-out curtains and their own TVs/Blu-ray players, 2 full baths, and a pull-out couch with full mattress, sleeping 8+ people. It is a great all year round Mountain getaway to unwind and relax over the fabulous mountain and valley views. Other highlights of this home are large decks with outdoor furniture and a gas grill. There is an outdoor table with 6 chairs for outdoor dining or relaxing. The living room has a new game reclining couch (2020). This home is easily accessible with plenty of parking that easily fits 4+ cars. There are spots in front of the house and garage as well as an adjacent lot to the left of the home facing the mountain. This home has the exclusive Beech Mountain Club Membership. There is a game room setup in the garage with a Billiard table and Table Tennis. The Garage also contains a basic powered treadmill for your use.
Everything in the home has lots of upgrades! Our home has super fast Enhanced Fiber-Optic Broadband speed internet (WiFi), 4 SMART HDTV flat screens in every room (55” in living area, 40" in master bedroom and 32” in all other bedrooms) with extended Premier cable, and 4 Blu-ray/DVD players. Although there are 1 king, 2 queen beds and a full sized pull-out couch to accommodate 8 people sharing, we do allow you to bring your own air-beds or sleeping bags to accommodate a maximum of ten (10) people in the home. The home is one level for easy access to all living spaces, but with plenty of privacy.
We do allow a well behaved potty-trained dog. However, crating your dog is required if they are left alone in our home, whether in your own crate, or gated into the kitchen (non-carpeted) area. There is a dog park near-by as well.
There are three parking areas for plenty of space to accommodate vehicles. At least 2 can fit in front of the house, 2 in front of the garage, and 2-3 at the left side lot (NOTE: During the winter when there is snow accumulation on the ground, only the front of the house will be accessible for parking unless you notify me you need the driveway plowed prior to your stay and make necessary arrangements beforehand).
The property is NON-SMOKING.
The advantage of the Octagon shaped house makes you feel you are part of the outdoors.
The kitchen comes well equipped with refrigerator, stove/oven, dishwasher, microwave, garbage disposal, Keurig, coffee percolators (plug-in and stove top) and plenty of cooking pots, pans, dishes and glasses of all types. Each bath has a dual shower heads. The house has HE front loading washer and dryer and a sewing machine on site. There is ample deck-space outside with furniture and a gas grill. Even when it rains or snows, you can enjoy the main deck section as the ceiling of the deck is covered in addition to being nicely wooded and private.
The home comes with luxury high quality linens and towels, plenty of night lights and liquid soap at all sinks.
Our home is less than 2 miles from the Beech Mountain Ski Resort parking lot. The home also has membership at the Private Beech Mountain Club which allows our guests to obtain an unaccompanied guest pass for a minimal fee. We enjoyed the gorgeous view and outdoor patio. We loved the fresh air and cool weather!

Overall, cool, set up. Place is in a great location with a fantastic view.

We loved our stay here. Private and comfy. The views from the many windows and wonderful deck space were heavenly. Check-in/check-out was super easy. Thank you for a great weekend!

Spacious pet-friendly rental on Beech Mountain, amid beautiful woodsy surroundings and with a spectacular deck view of a valley and neighboring mountains. The host’s documentation answered most questions we had and otherwise she responded to texts. The whole family enjoyed hiking Emerald Overlook and other trails, and we enjoyed the pool table and table tennis in the garage. Would definitely rent again!

Stunning views! Cozy house! Great location to ski slopes. Exactly what we needed for our trip. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Good price & very near Beech Mountain ski resort (<5 min drive). The switchback roads into the neighborhood can be steep, but the view off the balcony is great. I chaperoned a small group (9) of teenage boys and there was sufficient room though 1 or 2 did need to sleep on the couch. Master bed was comfy (may have been memory foam). The kitchen is pretty standard for a rental, but there is a lot of equipment to use that isn't so common - lots of pans & baking sheets, a waffle iron, and even a good set of knives. The play room in the garage is a nice feature. My only complaint was we did have trouble regulating the temp - maybe we would have figured it out after a few days, but it was cold in the morning and hot at night.

The home was perfect for our family of 5. The kids loved having the pool table in the garage and spent a majority of their time there. The views from the balcony are incredible and the sunsets are stunning. I especially loved the gas fireplace, loved not having to mess with wood and it kept the home perfectly warm and cozy during our cold stay. Everything was wonderful and we highly recommend!

The house was exactly what we expected. Fireplace was easy to turn on and really made us feel cozy and content. Our teenage kids miss it already and loved it as well!! Huge deal these days!

My wife and I vacationed here for 8 days. Beautiful views! Leaf watching was AWESOME from the deck! Very clean and roomy. Daughter and son in law came for last couple of days and fell in love with it also! Would definitely go back again and would recommend it for couples and families! Very easy to get to. Owner gave great directions! Love, love, loved it!!

We loved our stay and the stunning views from this house. We had coffee on the deck every morning enjoying the cool temperatures and soaking in the scenery. The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed. I hope we’ll get to stay there again next time we visit Beech Mountain.

My family stayed at Woodland Retreat for two weeks. It was a fair value for the price. The views from the deck were really nice. While the house was comfortable and had some updates (e.g., TVs, bedding), this property has serious STRUCTURAL issues and maintenance has been neglected. The house's entire structure is not level (uneven), so every floor--from the kitchen to the deck to the master bedroom--leans in multiple directions. The house has flaking popcorn ceilings, peeling wallpaper, old carpeting, clogged drains, scraped up and unusable cookware, and holes in the screen doors. If you are looking for a cheap place to stay with a nice view and you don't mind any of the above, then I would recommend Woodland Retreat.

My husband and I had a wonderful 5 1/2 week stay at the Woodland Retreat. Our children visited for parts of our stay and loved it! The house is great - all one level and very comfortable - lots of seating, very very comfortable beds, lots of starter supplies, and extremely well stocked with so many kitchen and other items. The highlight is the spectacular view on the huge covered deck, where we ate many meals and watched the gorgeous sunset. Kristen is a fantastic owner/hostess who communicated very quickly in response to all my questions throughout our stay. That was comforting and a real pleasure! There is fast and reliable wifi connection for working remotely and for son's remote classes for school. The TVs are excellent and provide a huge selection of channels. A transfer of membership through Kristen to the Beech Mountain Club is available and was very important to us - we paid the Club a reasonable monthly fee and had full access to everything to which a full time member has access. Kristen maintains her membership for her tenants which is great! The house is 6 -7 minutes from the Golf Club and from Beech Mountain Club tennis, pickleball, pool, gym, and classes. Unexpected perk - Our 2 small dogs became much closer and played together beautifully and they continued that relationship after we arrived home! In a binder by the front door, Kristen provides detailed information about her house and about so many things to do on Beech Mountain, in the surrounding areas and fun towns/cities to visit. We highly recommend the Woodland Retreat as a fantastic vacation spot for friends and family. We plan on returning many more times!

Overall great weekend trip. House looked as described on VRBO. If you love mountain experience, this is for you, the view from the house was spectacular! Only reason we rated 4 stars was the no access to garbage disposal, it was a bit time consuming to have to take our garbage to the dump/ recycle area, then get back to the house. Also, the middle bedroom had a very squeaky bed, and ceiling fan, other than that the house was fully stocked and the view from the deck was great. Fred's store is a must to visit as well. If you're going to visit off season for skiing, this is a nice relaxing spot.

We just loved the place and couldn’t have gone at a better time. Great location. Weather was cool and perfect for hiking. Views were spectacular from the wrap around deck. The whole family loved all the space we had to relax and enjoy our down time. Kristen was an excellent hostess who provided everything we needed and communicated so quickly. Great memories were made.

Really awesome views and sunsets

Clean, good location, best view for the money for sure, all the directions on booklet, will be coming back for sure

We enjoyed our stay at this mountain retreat home. It's an older property (1974), but I challenge you find a more spacious property with these amenities--that is also pet friendly--for this price point. We cooked several meals in the kitchen and used the grill a couple times. We also enjoyed playing ping pong in the garage. Lots of comfortable seating and nice views!

This was a great place for our family to gather in the midst of the pandemic. The house was spacious and had mostly everything we would need. (A little short on toilet paper and dishwasher pods) The beds were comfortable and the fireplace added real ambiance as well as warmth. The weather (not part of the location) was foggy, rainy and cold. Although we were not afforded the views we had hoped for, it didn't dampen our spirits. We still had the opportunity to ski, visit a farm, a winery and enjoy local cuisine as well as cooking most of our meals at the house. Very relaxing and enjoyable!

Due to Covid, our usual large family gathering could not happen this year. So, four of us had a small family gathering in this cabin and it worked well for us. We had a great time! The cabin is very nice and has incredible views off the deck. My husband is an avid photographer and got some great sunset photos. Kristen was very responsive throughout the entire process from booking to checkout which I really appreciate since we have done some other rentals in which this was not the case.

This is our second time staying at this property, but certainly won't be the last. Kristen is an excellent host and even allowed us to change our dates last minute. The home is perfect, comfortable, and has everything you could need. Our absolute favorite spot is the deck. You can't be the views. We ate all of our meals out there and enjoyed s'mores by the chimenea. The location is perfect. Easy drive to great hikes, restaurants, and other attractions. We enjoyed hikes at Rough Ridge, Linville Falls, Grandfather Mountain and Moses Cone. Our favorite hike was the one we discovered this year just by walking down the road the home is on. Even has a fun little waterfall to explore. We will certainly be back! Thank-you Kristen!

We enjoyed the house very much. The views are spectacular. House is as advertised, no issues at all. The king mattress is quite comfortable, slept well. You won't be disappointed and it is a good location for activities nearby. Would definitely rent it again.

Great view of the sunsets each night!
