I didn't have much of an issue with the property but I will say it is extremely small, not even boutique small. You literally have to stand behind the bathroom door to close it. The sink is outside in the room which doesn't leave a lot of privacy. Limited staff so housekeeping is a change of towels thats it. Water machine broken on floor. I would only do a night stay, that's it. It did have a small fridge and microwave.

We reserved 4 rooms for ourself and family due to the location. It was convenient to our sons wedding venue.
We received late check-in upon arrival because they were short staffed and our room was not ready.
The night before the wedding, our room key did not work. The front desk said they couldn’t get us into our room until the morning due to a battery issue with the key box. They have us another room for the night however, we had nothing but the cloths on our backs. We slept in contacts, no toiletries, no cloths for the wedding, no medication for the night due to everything being in our locked room. We were able to get into our room the next morning and hurried to get ready. We requested a one night refund for our room and inconvenience. We were told it would be handled since we spent over $1400 in rooms.
You can imagine our surprise when a check for $50 arrived in the mail as compensation. I was not surprised that the manager never returned my two phone calls to discuss.
I recommend everyone avoid this dump. The staff was rude and unhelpful. If I could give zero stars I would.

The rooms were clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. If we coming back to this area we will definitely stay here again.

We love the Carleton and have stayed here before. The lobby was lovely, decorated with seasonal displays and lights. It was quiet and peaceful. Our room was beautifully clean and very comfortable. The young woman who checked us in and also checked us out was very pleasant, professional, and helpful. We really like being able to leave our car in the Carleton lot, walk a short distance to the train station, and hop a train to explore downtown Chicago. We definitely plan to stay here again!

I checked with the hotel the night before arrival and found that for the second time in two months Hotels.Com had cancelled my booking in error. The staff member, Ronnie, rebooked my room and even offered a better rate than I had for the minor inconvenience.

The Carleton is a lovely old place in an excellent location. You are steps from all that downtown Oak Park has to offer as well as the Green Line for trips into Chicago. It's a bit run down and could have been a bit cleaner. I appreciated the larger room with the kitchenette.

Great room, it was clean, and had plenty of space. The hotel felt classy, but old classy, which is cool. Front desk was friendly. Bar down stairs had a great burger, and beer too.

The Carlton Hotel needs to be updated. While it was clean, it felt very stuffy in the room.
Most of the staff was very very nice. The area was cute.

Cleanliness was exceptional. Would have liked an arm chair in the room.

We really enjoyed our 3 night stay here. We were there to visit the Frank Loyd Wright and the Ernest Hemingway houses and they are about 15 minutes walk from the Hotel and the light rail into Chicago is just a 5 minute walk away. The only negatives are that there is very little counter space in the bathroom, and the description says each room has a kitchen, but it was really just a small counter space with a coffee machine and microwave and a few coffee cups with no plates, bowls, or flatware.

Great area -- walkable to all kinds of shops and restaurants. Hotel was lovely and room was larger than expected. Only complaint would be the really aged sofa in our living area -- no padding and when you sat on it, you sank in, since the springs were "done".

The staff were accomodating and helpful. It was a convenient location and walkable to many restaurants and attractions.

Hotel was practically empty and was not allowed to check in before 3pm. Rooms are dated and smell musty. Bathroom has been recently updated but that’s all. Great location.

I've stayed here so many times in the last 2 months they know who I am and they come chasing me knocking on my door three times between the hour of 11:00 and noon they know I'm on dialysis and I don't know what they think they're doing the hotel they're just chasing people out like that it's like just give me a break already the amount of money that I spent it's like go away give me some peace I'll leave by noon it's it's they're the worst they have the worst service there the worst, I tell them I'm getting out of the shower I'll be ready by noon and they're still knocking on my damn door three times in an hour it's like what it what is the rush

Very nicely maintained old hotel from the 1920's judging by the coved ceilings. Very clean. Good beds. Like a visit to the past. Steam heat. Air conditioners. Be aware, lobby is six steps below street level, and a portion of the hotel requires a fight of stairs up to the lowest elevator level. Il that is a problem for you, requst rooms in the portion served by lobby level elevators.

Nice older hotel, a bit worn but clean. The tv stations available are not up to date. Easy stay near public transit and walkable part of town.

Ideal location for just about everything! We enjoyed a play downtown Chicago afterwards only took us 15 minutes to get to the hotel! The hotel is within walking distance to many restaurants and extensive shopping!

We really enjoyed our stay.

I very much enjoyed the beauty and French feel of the hotel and rooms. The only problem that I had was with the hard walking, stomp walking if the guests above me. Perhaps, the front desk clerks can ask the guests at check in to be mindful to walk softly when guests are beneath them. the Rev. Dr. Horace Griffin

This was the second time I have stayed here. This will definitely be my go to hotel for all future trips to the Chicago area. Rooms are spacious and clean. Love having a mini fridge and microwave in the room. Parking is super easy. Neighborhood is quaint and the people are friendly. The only negative I can think of is the fact it is only one block from Harlem Ave and a somewhat sketchy area.

This is an older hotel that is well kept. Convenient to what we were there for in Oak Park. Parking was free no added charges. room was large by today's standards.

Property was a tad dated, but did its job. Pillows were pretty uncomfortable. There was a staff shortage noted upon checkin that I feel impacted the cleanliness of the room, but it was still fine. I would stay here again if I needed to be outside the city, but might not return otherwise.

Small and friendly hotel in the heart of a cool neighborhood, with old world charm and updated amenities.

We’re at the Carleton to celebrate with friends. It was important that we got a good night’s sleep and we did just that. So appreciated

First time I've stayed in a victorian hotel. I wish you would have had a continental breakfast. Other wise the room was clean but couldn't figure out the TV.
