This review is for the Holiday Inn Gainesville. We were given room 314, which was far from what we expected. The hotel is undergoing construction, which wasn’t disclosed at the time of booking. We had requested and paid for a King room but were instead given a double.
The 3rd floor hallways smelled musty and moldy, the bathroom light was broken, and the shower had almost no water pressure. The room itself was poorly maintained, with visible cracks on the walls and ceiling. When I asked to change rooms, I was told there were none available.
I ended up checking out and booking another hotel. Essentially, I paid for a weekend stay (Friday to Sunday) at a hotel where I didn’t stay. I booked through Hotels.com, I’ve been told I have to request a refund through them.
I use Hotels.com for all my bookings, but unless this issue is resolved, I will no longer use their service in the future. I have attempted to contact their customer service multiple times via phone and virtual chat, with no resolution. This experience has been incredibly frustrating, and their lack of support is unacceptable.

Room was pretty dirty and run down. The workers at the hotel were fine - I had no issue at all with service - but the property is very, very run down.

When we arrived, we were told our room was cancelled but there was never an email or phone call to us regarding the cancellation. Also, we got an email earlier in the day stating that our room was ready and if we had any preference. Luckily, they had extra rooms for us but the room that we got didn't have a refrigerator or wifi and was still in the middle of a renovation so there was no door frame and other things were missing as well. I expected some sort of discount for the inconvenience but nothing was provided. Finally, the front desk lady was not very nice and didn't really care about our frustrations or concerns.

The hotel is under renovation, but the room is from 1980 and should not be rented!

During hurricane, we are staying without power. Our flight was postponed that is early morning to afternoon. We were asking for late checkout because half of city was no power. The staff said we should check out 11 am.
Next time, I never use this hotel.

Jaqueline was excellent and patient

This property overbooked the rooms on a football game weekend where the rooms were inflated to $900/nt. They offered to accommodate 8 people into 4 king rooms rather than 2 double queen rooms but were requiring us to pay even more for the additional rooms needed due to their negligence. The staff was rude and ultimately cancelled the reservation all together when we argued that we should not be charged more to accommodate our group.

The hotel (floors 5 and 6) are currently under renovation. While I appreciate that, our room was that was not under renovation was dingey, the lamps and outlets did not work and the bathroom needs a massive do over.

Sometimes action speak louder than words, we reserved and paid in full for 2 night stay for a room with 2 queen beds in this Hotel because of location! Upon check in we were told that Hotel is going through renovations and were told that 2 beds are not available, so we settled for a king bed for 3 people They offered to bring a rollaway bed. At first they gave us keys for the wrong room, then I went downstairs and said they made a mistake and gave us the keys for the right room. As we entered the room, it was a corner room with windows all around covered by shades. The room had a musty smell and had a feel of a hospital room, not a hotel room. We called Expedia to see if we could cancel our reservation and book at a different hotel; Expedia reached out to the hotel management to see if they will waive the cancellation fee, which was higher than the total price that we already payed for the room. Hotel management refused. We realized that we would not stay there and booked a room in a different hotel, willing to take a loss rather than to stay in those conditions. We stayed at the Comfort Suites Inn and had a wonderful stay.

I wanted to love my star here. It was very close to campus, the ONLY plus. There were homeless people out front, and one chased my son and tried to take his chain off his neck. There were
Creepy construction people staring at me in the elevator. There was blood on the ceiling of one shower, mold in corners of the shower, grime on the da user and black grease marks on the bed skirt. They used a strong smelling disinfectant that smelled horrible. The staff was very nice and I felt bad for them. Not their fault, but this place was very dirty and had homeless people around day and night

Under heavy construction and limited parking. The check-in process took too long. The first room they gave me was never cleaned. Towels on the floor and the bed u made. I believe they will return to better standards after construction but right now I would not go back.

Disappointing. First I had no knowledge that there were renovando construction because it was not on the website. I felt uncomfortable with so many construction workers walking around. Second, the hotel had a weird smell. Third, the elevator was not clean and only one of two worked. Fourth, the breakfast at the indoor cafe was terrible. Fifth, the bathroom in my room looked dingy and dirty. The mirror was rusty. The showerhead was not working properly. The sheets were not clean so I got ringworm. The parking lot was pitted and dangerous for walking. There were no lights. It felt unsafe at night. The nearby Publix was convenient and refreshingly comforting as I could buy snacks there. I have stayed at other locations for Holiday Inn and my stay was much MUCH better.

For the price I paid for this hotel. I could’ve stayed at a much better hotel. This is a piece of crap, totally disappointed. I wish I can get my money back but worse I wish this hotel demolish and start all over.

I'd highly recommend this hotel if staying in Gainseville. The room was extremely clean, spacious & well-appointed. I appreciated having a microwave and substantial sized mini-fridge. The Italian restaurant right off the main lobby looked winderful smf smelled delicious, and Im sure I'd have loved it I hadnt already had dinner.

Great proximity with proximity to the College of Business!

Construction on-site, were not warned prior. Hot water was down without warning for ~24 hours, then down with warning for ~12. Staff however were friendly, professional, and apologetic for the inconveniences.

I had a procedure at UF Shands down the street very early. We came from Daytona Beach and stayed the night. Has a restaurants on site. Pool on 3rd floor can sit and relax. Very good just what we needed

Broken ac in room. I had to call 3x to get it addressed. They offered to switch my room after my third call for repairs. It was late, the sun had gone down, and the ac was finally catching up. It ran but I was not comfortable and that is all that should have mattered. To make matters worse, I had to take a cold shower in the morning because the hot water valve in the shower did not work.

The property had not been updated in many years Old rusty fixtures, dirty carpets, outdated and old.

Will probably be great once it’s updated. But the hairdryer didn’t work. The water that came out of the faucets was initially brown. The toilet didn’t flush well. Staff was very friendly.

Hotel is all about location and nothing special. They seem to be renovating so in the future it might be good. Rooms are old. Bathroom and water pressure are bad.

Do not waste money. My room was awful musky, dirty, bathroom door falling off. Had no hot water and a trickle of water pressure. Got a room change had better water but the room smelled like mildew and chemicals. Worst hotel experience. Prices comparable to surrounding hotels but not worth the price. Not habitable for people until renovations are complete don’t waste your money.

I went to check in and the hotel was overbooked and didn’t have a room for me. I had to call around to find another hotel, very disappointing
2.0
Went to shower after being at the race track for 20hrs no running hot water and sewage backing up into the shower. Had to find another place to stay since they had no other rooms to accommodate us. Also billed both credit card and debit card twice and had to get refunds.
4.0
We only stayed here because we needed to bring our dog. The $50 pet fee was acceptable. What wasn’t acceptable is how old and disgusting the room was. The bathroom looked like it belongs in some scuzzy highway pit stop motel. The glaze in the tub was peeling up and the edges were black. There was no hot water from the sink. Maybe it reached 80 degrees. The hot water in the shower lasted almost 5 minutes, and it wasn’t even hot. Maybe 110 degrees. There was decay all over the bathroom from water damage. The tv was at least 15 years old and was not a “smart tv”. The furniture was dated and all scraped up. The room we stayed in was maybe worth $59/night, not $199. It was a terrible representation of Holiday Inn. We were super disappointed and will never stay there again, not even after they finish remodeling.

Will be great after construction is completed.
