Beautiful building around the old walls. Terrific museum on site which is well worth a visit. Breakfast was very average and staff not very friendly. Ordered a vodka and tonic from the bar to be told they had none. Receptionist was extremely nice which made up somewhat for the rest of the staff.

Wonderful friendly staff! Excellent facility. Great find.

This is a special historic building that has been revived from ruins very sympathetically. Amazing location with panoramic views. The rooms were well appointed. Pool was not ready for the season but loved the uniqueness of the stay, 45 minutes from Lisbon city centre
2.5
Amazing stay, we had called ahead to confirm they had a functioning pool and A/C that actually worked, and when we arrived, they had gone to our room ahead of time to turn the A/C on to have it cool when we arrived. The employees were all so friendly, the pool area was fantastic and well kept, the room and views were unreal.

Super fun place to stay - the renovation on this place to make it a hotel is amazing. Nice restaurant, great service and nice rooms.

The castle was enchanting with lots to explore. Breakfast was good with a large variety to choose from. We ate in the dining room the first night, and it was not very good at all with poor choices.
2.5
Great location and ambiance. Even a beautiful wood fire in the fireplace on a cold rainy evening. Very quiet and restful. Interesting museum below filled with relics. Best breakfast of our 3 weeks in Portugal.
2.5
3rd visit to this lovely location, with the Hotel perched on the top of a hill overlooking spectacular views of rice fields. This is a very old building with a lovely history which is so evident everywhere on its grounds, in and outside of the building.
The rooms are of a good size and the beds are very comfortable. Cleanliness is a priority as is staff friendliness.
Overall, the experience is so positive and is a great get away or a stop on your journey through Portugal, at a very fair price.

Very helpful staff.
Beautiful place with a nice mix of history and modern accents
Not much to do in the town itself, but we were not there during the full season. Nice stop overnight from Algave on the way to Lisbon

Beautiful hotel in a historic building with stunning views. Many beautifully appointed seating areas and a lovely pool. Friendly and helpful staff. Room was clean. Bed was very high. Bathroom had very basic amenities but if you need anything else, you can ask and they will provide. Ample free parking.

Beautiful hotel within a castle. Architecturally interesting-juxtaposing the old with the new. Excellent breakfast & comfortable beds. Glad we stayed there. (The adjoining museum is worth the visit, too)

We had just come from Tavira where we stayed at another Pestana property, which was GORGEOUS and the food was extraordinary, so when we needed a place to stay over on our way back to Lisbon, we were delighted to know there was the Castelo de Alcácer do Sal.
The employees were all exemplary in giving information and being helpful. And, our waiter that evening at the hotel for dinner was lovely. But, the food was truly not good. I ordered a 'shrimp pesto pasta' that had literally no pesto on it. It was dry pasta with shrimp on it. I had to use the oil and garlic from our olive dish and salt from the table to create an edible meal. My husband had the rice and bacalhau fritters. The rice was tasteless and the fritters were quite greasy.
Otherwise, the actual building was beautiful with lovely stairways and beautiful details, but they really should work on their menu and food at the hotel. Especially during the winter months when they know that all the restaurants in the town are closed for vacation.

This was our first stay in Alcacer do Sal but our fifth stay in a Pousada hotel.
Great location, welcoming and friendly staff particularly when checking in and ordering room service later. The room was smart and clean. Dinner ordered from room service was delicious. The included breakfast buffet was great (one of my favourite points of all Pousadas). If I was to find one negative is that the room doesn't have an electric kettle with tea/coffee making facilities. Thank you nevertheless.

Cute rooms inside a castle. Delicious breakfast buffet. Cold assorted meats, breads, fruits, mimosa and other juices. Pastries. Hot eggs bacon and tomatoe.

It is like living within a museum. Excellent construction over an old monastery and fort. The archeological museum is steps ways. Nice views of the city and the river below. Ample parking.

As is the case with many Pousadas, the Pousada Castelo de Alcacer do Sal is a destination in itself. It’s situated on a commanding hill site which has been inhabited since Paleolithic times. It was a Phoenician trading post before becoming the center of a flourishing Roman fortress city at the beginning of the Christian Era (which became a Moorish fortress after the Islamic conquest of present day Portugal and a Christian fortress during the “reconquest” of Portugal. A must-visit national archaeological museum, featuring both Roman and Islamic eras, is situated beneath the Pousada. The interior of the Pousada tastefully integrates its history and beautiful views of the distant countryside with modern and comfortable rooms. The
