The property was beautiful, the communication about how to get there was very clear, and the staff were fabulous. The meal that was included with the hotel reservation was wonderful. It was a wonderful place to stay and gave us a great starting point for the train to the top the next morning.

The hotel is located at an exclusive and perfect part of the Alps! The hotel, the service and the food are amazing! Just a thing: you maybe think about an agreement with the transportation company to give day pases to the train to Hotel Gests, so we don’t have to pay every day and for every section of the trip

We arrived at night and the staff were waiting for us at the train station to help us with the luggage. During the stay, everything was clean, calm, quite, and safe. The outdoor jaccuzi facing the matterhorn is something else, you site there and forget the timing. The staff were super friendly and one thing to notice is they work with each other as family. On top of that, Juliana was a big help to us and made our stay easier. This place is really recommended and I will come again every year for sure.

I absolutely love the secluded location and outstanding views of the Matterhorn. What really lifts this hotel above and beyond are the staff and how welcoming, warm, and hilarious they all are. They really do make this place a cherished memory indeed. Also the food is amazing! High quality and lots of choice. Breakfast is also delicious with bacon, scrambled eggs, sausage, porridge, unlimited hot drinks. All included in the price

Excellent view of the town from above and right in front of Matterhorn. Can’t get anything better than that. A good breakfast selection and wellness to relax
4 course dinner spread was also good

Beautiful location and facility. The staff are exceptional and hotel upgrades very well done. Paradise for a skier as it’s truly ski in and out! 25 minute train ride into town so plan accordingly. Thanks to the team at Riffelhaus for a great stay!

I have traveled to over 120 countries and been to Switzerland on many occasions and must say that experiencing the Matterhorn from the Riffelhaus was a most memorable experience....the only way to go.

Located up in the pistes, this is the ultimate ski in/ski out hôtel. Not for big party goes as access to town is more limited. Rooms are clean and simple. Food is good but could be better. Spa is excellent with an amazing view of the matterhorn

We had the most amazing time at Riffelhaus 1853. The room very clean and cosy, perfect for the mountain, we had beautiful views from our windows and pretty much everywhere you looked. The dining room has a 360 degree view of the mountains including the Matterhorn. The quality of food at the restaurant and level of service was exceptional. My partner has an allergy to dairy/ lactose and the chefs and service staff were so thoughtful, well planned and attentive. Each day we felt like we were living without an allergy at all, and we were able to enjoy delicious and beautifully prepared food. We dined in many high end restaurants in France and Switzerland and none were able to cater to this as wonderfully as Riffelhaus.
We also had a snow storm for a couple of the days and was snowed in. In this time we loved the family atmosphere in the hotel, we got to know the other people staying, the dogs, played games in the lounge, sat in front of the fire and enjoyed the spa, steam and sauna. When the weather cleared the views were spectacular and the we could ski from our doorstep. I would highly recommend Riffelhaus 1853, we absolutely loved it and would definitely stay again! Thank you so much for making us so welcome.

We didn't go for the skiing so looking back on the visit, I would have stayed in Zermatt and just visited the top of the mountain. The hotel was a skiing paradise but nothing luxurious. Rooms were nice, clean and spacious. Spa was excellent. Staff was helpful but not doing things that were reflective in the price we paid for the stay. I was opposed to having dogs sit in the dining area while eating a four course dinner.

The hotel is beautiful and located in the middle of the mountain/ski area. Everything was awesome except for the pain of dealing with their "reservations" team, and their confusions. If you ever need to change something do it via Hotels.com... I requested a bottle of champagne and an extra night to arrive one day before, to their reservations email, since we were on our honeymoon. They added the night for another date I never asked for, and when I told them it was wrong, they said I needed to change it via Expedia (I booked it with Hotels.com)... Anyways, I cancelled that request and told them I was arriving the day I confirmed with Hotels.com. when checking out, they held me for a while because they said I had a non refundable rate and had to pay for 2 nights even thou I would only sleep there for 1, because their reservations team messed up and wouldn't recognize they did so, saying it was "Expedia's fault". At the end we were able to agree on something, but I left with a bad taste in my mouth, but the hotel is awesome besides that.

The hotel location is isolated, but which means it is quite good when you walk down from Gornergrat and you can get rest at night without any disturbance from noise.
Moreover, please get a room with Matterhorn view if you can, it is fantastic to see Matterhorn when you wake up in the morning.

Stayed here between Christmas and New Year 2014, just after it reopened after refurbishment. Fabulous hotel with truly amazing views of the Matterhorn (definitely worth paying for a Matterhorn view room). It's about 100m walk (down the ski slope, so wear stout shoes in winter!) from the Riffleberg stop on the Gonergrat railway. Great for skiing as you can get a first run down before the lift open and have the mountain pretty much to yourself for half an hour, and I imagine it would be great for walking holiday too. Food in the restaurant is good, the spa is large and excellent and the staff are very friendly, oh rooms are good too, not huge but comfortable and well furnished. I'd really recommend it for a short break rather than a full week, as the location means that you have to eat at the hotel each night (as the last train up is 9ish in summer and 7.30 ish in winter). All round, very special experience.

The location and setting cannot be beaten for the hotel sits on the side of a mountain and overlooks an alpine amphitheatre of unparalleled beauty, dominated of course by the iconic and breathtaking Matterhorn.
The entire hotel has recently undergone a significant programme of renovation and upgrading of its facilities and this is reflected in the superbly appointed rooms, spa and public areas. For comfort and cleanliness this hotel can easily compete with its grander 5 star cousins down in the valley.
The food ranges from buffet style continental breakfasts in the morning to traditional and hearty alpine favourites such as wurst and rösti at lunch. In the evening dinner is a 4-course set piece affair with the cuisine and service of a quality that you would expect from a world-class resort like Zermatt.
From the moment you enter the Riffelhaus you are surrounded by people who are not only consummate professionals but who bring to their jobs a warmth, thoughtfulness and human kindness that makes the Riffelhaus experience unique among its peers in Zermatt.
For me, and I hope others too, the Riffelhaus is so much more than just another hotel and I shall remember it with fondness and affection as an intimate, private mountain club with friends, friends that I look forward to seeing again and again, for many years to come.
