Loved this hotel. So convenient to bus and train station. Walking up the steep hill at the end of the day was admittedly slower than in the morning! Restaurant for breakfast and dinner was delicious! Grocery store within walking distance. Snacks in the room nice touch. I would definitely stay again. So quiet too. No elevator so be aware of that.

Lovely view of Mount St Michael, food very good at breakfast and dinner, staff very accomodating and welcoming

We liked the friendliness of the breakfast staff, and the location of the hotel. Our sea view was very good. However, there was mould on the sky vent in our bathroom (room 19) and the guttering outside our window was overgrown with grass. On the 2nd night of our visit we were kept awake for 2 hours by loud banging from plumbing next door to our room. We called the night porter twice using 0 and the mobile number suggested in an emergency and just got an answer phone message. My partner tried to run taps etc and mentioned to the night porter where he thought the problem was. No mention or apology was made about the noise at breakfast.

Excellent location. Lovely staff and good food

The room itself looked newly renovated and the facilities were excellent. Not only were there tea and coffee facilities, there was also a big jar full of treats including biscuits and crisps.
Breakfast was included and included a good range of choices, including fresh fruit. The view from the breakfast room was stunning and all of the staff were lovely.
Parking was limited and a bit tight but it actually seemed to pay to be the last one in and, to be fair, they were clear about that in their advert.

The Hotel Penzance is absolutely lovely in every respect. Our room had a view of the water and beautiful decor. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. We only wish we'd had more time and warmer weather so we could have taken advantage of the lovely pool. Fabulous stay and fantastic staff!

Hotel was lovely. Nice room with seaview. Slightly datet but beds very comfortable linen spotless. Few bits of dust but nothing major. Bathroom lovely, very noisy flush tho. Shampoo shower gel provided.SADLY no conditioner. Also no hairdryer. I rang reception 5 times with no luck. Breakfast was ok. But bacon wasnt edible. Staff all standing behind the bar was slightly off putting while eating breakfast. Even chef at times..Pool was excellent. Receptionist that afternoon was lovely. Overall a pleasant stay but not worth the 269 i paid for the one night. And then had to pay 8 pds to park there.

Light and airy bedroom with fabulous sea views. Small evening dinner menu but still had to wait a long time for the food. However, it was worth the wait.

My husband and I would only have a chance to tour the area around Penzance for three days. His family had left the tin mines of St. Just in the 1860's for America. We had a lot packed into a short time. The Penzance Hotel staff made us feel at home offering fabulous comfort, food and hospitality in the great tradition of Cornwall. Yeghes da (cheers)!

Charming small hotel in a great location. Breakfast was fantastic. Bar and dinner were a bit limited but staff was very accommodating. Upgraded our room and was actually smaller than our friends room but a lovely view.

I found the staff very helpful and friendly, and I don't know why other reviewers complain

The actions of the staff to overcome the impossibility of obtaining a taxi to convey us to the harbour in time for the sailing to the Scilly Isles.

Has the hotel had a change of ownership? Because loads differed from the older reviews (which were really great). Plus, many of the facilities promised simply don't exist - as if there's been a huge cost-cutting exercise. Both the hotel website AND EXPEDIA need to update the hotel's offerings as they are incorrect.
* No warm welcome with a glass of bubbly (just a deserted reception & then a man demanding to see my ID! (Reception was unmanned, no-one to ask about things)
* No blackout curtains in room (roller blinds)
* No premium Egyptian cotton bedding (just standard hotel satin-stripe)
*No espresso maker (just standard kettle, sachets, etc)
*No free bottle water (just tap water in a bottle)
*No designer toiletries (just pump action bottles locked into bathroom walls)
*No chocolates in room (just crisps, nuts & biscuits)
*Towel rail & room light not working
*Ashtrays outside breakfast room window with cig butts floating in rainwater
*Terrible breakfast (NOTHING LIKE THE WEBSITE PHOTO - no artisan-style rolls & breads, no continental meats, no cheese, no melon slices, no deli items) - inedible overcooked bacon & sausage, eggs with broken yolks, choice of sliced white or brown bread only
*CHEF, WHEN ASKED, SAID THEY NO LONGER DO THE LAVISH BREAKFAST ON THE WEBSITE
This hotel needs RE-GRADING - it's no longer 4-star - and Expedia & the hotel website need to update the hotel offerings & hotel needs to remove the lavish breakfast photo & welcome with glass of bubbly.

The room was large and cozy. Breakfast was limited variety but great. The atmosphere of the restaurant was amazing. We enjoyed staying here.
However, we were disappointed about a few aspects. The faucet in the bathroom was moldy. There were someone’s used socks and underwear in the wardrobe. A housekeeper knocked on our door, and informed us about the check-out time 20 minutes before actual time. It seemed she did the same thing for all rooms (We heard the knocking sound many times.). It disturbed our relaxing time. They need to clean rooms carefully instead of reminding us of the check-out time.

I'd highly recommend booking this hotel for a Cornwall trip! It was in the perfect location especially for St Michael's Mount. The rooms are lovely and the service of the staff is outstanding. Ashama made us feel extremely welcome and she is so friendly. We also ate at the restaurant and the food was really good. If you're looking for a hotel in Cornwall then don't hesitate to book this one. I would recommend booking a parking space at the hotel at the time of booking as on street parking is very limited and not guaranteed. They also have electric charging points for electric vehicles if you've booked a parking bay. The hotel has great views of the sea and St Michael's Mount.

Great place but the highlight was the breakfast which was really good.

Let me start by saying all the staff were very pleasant and efficient. The dinner both nights was absolutely delicious. The breakfast was also fresh and tasty. However, our room was much in need of a makeover: one of the wall lights was flickering; the heated towel rail in the bathroom didn’t work so was freezing and towels didn’t dry; there was mould in the bath/shower; very dated shower fixture over bath. Needs tearing out and starting again. The room was also small with dated, dark wooden furniture. Disappointing.

The hotel has changed management and not for the better.
Breakfast was always a feast but is now cooked in the dining room and takes forever.
The front door does not close properly so the wind howls through the building rattling doors all night

People and service were friendly and caring. No hassles and any inconvenience quickly dealt with. The hill is a challenge if walking with luggage, but exercise after a train ride was welcomed.

I can not fault our stay at Hotel Penzance. We were warmly greeted at reception on check-in and personally taken to our room. Our room had superb sea views, and a very comfortable bed and bathroom. Breakfast was excellent, all fresh produce and excellent service. We will certainly be returning if we are in the area again.

I only stayed one night but it was obvious that the whole experience was set up on customer satisfaction. Very pleasant and would definitely stay there again .the only slight criticism was the water system was quite load but that could easily be rectified with a few simple tweaks.I would recommend it to friends.

How this hotel has been given a 4 star rating is outrageous.
I remember my stays over 40 years and have been really satisfied all round. Now under new ownership the standard is appalling. Room 2 with badly stained carpet entering the bathroom. Shower that floods up to the toilet. Marks on the bathroom wall from an adhesive fitting no longer there. No effort for room service other than to make up beds. Move furniture to plug in a kettle. I will not be staying there again.

Very convenient to downtown. Excellent breakfast and dinners as well. Charming mid-century decor in our room.

Positives Room was comfortable with a nice sea view. Negatives Car parking charges were an unnecessary add on, food was well overpriced for average quality and the breakfast was awful, Scrambled egg was like porridge.

I booked this hotel online, at Expedia. for a stay next 23rd of May 2024. I immediately received an e-Mail confirming my booking for the end of October 2023, the very next day. This was not convenient since I live 5000 miles away and did not want to be in Cornwall the next day.
I immediately contacted Expedia to ask them to correct the mistake. They contacted the hotel who said that I was a 'no show' and would not correct the mistake.
That's where it lies now. I am out by 150 pounds. If that is the way this hotel conducts its business, it does not deserve to prosper.

The hotel staff was very welcoming and made us feel home as soon as we arrived. It was our very first time in Penzance and we loved it every second we spend here. Reception, chef and housekeeping all the staff was very friendly and helpful. We are really pleased with their service. Thank you so much for having us.

Well situated, staff was very friendly and accommodating.
We had a very good diner and breakfast was excellent.

Sadly for a 4 star hotel the hotel Penzance fell below par . We arrived 50 minutes early to be told ‘you’re a bit early for check in’ no offer to wait in a lounge etc. the list then begins, no access to food or drink outwith dining room hours which was 6:30-9:30 am & pm. No room service. The rubber bath mat was filthy, room keycards needed charged minimum daily. The breakfast chef wore jeans & a sweatshirt while cooking your eggs in the dining room. The pre printed menu was not what was available. You couldn’t put your meal or drinks on your room tab as it was a separate business from the hotel. The front desk was hardly ever staffed - a notice was there telling you a number to phone if you needed someone - problem is there was no phone provided and it was highly possible to have left your phone in your room & you were locked out because of the faulty room key cards. I don’t know how this hotel met a 4 star criteria

This place has a lot going for it. Views were great and the rooms were really nice and well presented.
It was let down by poor service in the restaurant - half the menu was unavailable. Also my parents had water leaking into the bathroom when it rained.
EV charger was extremely useful.

Everything was so good, clean, nice location, beautiful view
3.0 / 10.0
We were sad to see the exterior of what once was a lovely garden with pool. The hanging baskets have been dead for a long time, some of the furniture was rotten and the weeds around the pool were so extensive that one couldn't see the paving. There were fab pots that were empty and very unappealing to see from the terrace. The glasses and ashtray from one morning were still there early evening without wiped table... the breakfast offering was dire... old croissants, nearly off fruit, anything warm was extra to pay for and the boys serving need to learn to smile now and then. The girls were lovely but front of house was disappointing. The price for the night did not reflect the charm of the property one would expect from seeing the pictures nor some of the service.

This is a beautiful classic building with an elegant, yet homey feel. The staff were attentive, hospitable and accommodating.
The food was very good.
We had some unusual travel needs which the staff helped to resolve.

Not a 4 star. Black mold in bath. Sky light in bath nasty. Staff very hard to find for checking/out. No lift. Mediocre food. Lovely sea view a garden. But overall, disappointed and very surprised with 4 star rating

We stayed here in October 2020 and had a lovely relaxing time. Everything was great despite CoVid restrictions food, service, staff all worked really well and the restaurant was excellent. This is why we chose to return for a post Xmas and nee year break. Disappointing from arrival onwards. The receptionist Terry was pleasant enough but despite our phoning ahead to describe a five hour delay on the M5 and arriving exhausted, he didn’t have the sense to allow us to go to our rooms to freshen up, settle etc. we had to go through the whole checking and full payment for our holiday up front before even using the loo. The superior double room was not nearly as plush and nice as the room we’d had before with serious crack in bathroom floor tiles and furniture that didn’t close either drawers or doors properly. The view was good but restricted. The bed was clean and comfortable and maid service very good every day but the sheets were not changed at all during our five night stay which got a ‘four star’ hotel was unusual. There were Christmas lights outside our window that flashed manically across the bedroom ceiling but once requested the following morning were switched off at night so they did resolve that problem quickly. My husband had an ok but not great breakfast at £15.95 which he had to pay for immediately, before leaving the restaurant, rather than adding to our room. Again unusual. We didn’t eat in the restaurant after that as the recent reviews were all poor so we walked.

New inexperienced owners and it showed. The Hotel was & room was fine. Towels and view are very good. A few hairs that were not ours, showing cleaning could be improved.
The main issue was the restaurant, if you are a woman expect to be treated as invisible. The man & only the man is asked what they would like for breakfast, whether they want tea, milk etc etc. The menu is totally confusing that can only be deemed as taking as much money off the customer as possible. Breakfast is Not included in the price & everything is fried. It could be so good but inexperience & thinking they are blinding the customers for getting as much money out of them is too obvious. We found an excellent family run restaurant in the Penzance that concentrated on service, good ingredients & great value for money, who cared about the customer. Cared about repeat business, not fleecing everything they can out of the customer.
