Charming place close to the location of the Berlin Wall memorial. Smooth after hours check-in and helpful staff.

Best Hotel in Berlin!

We arrived at the hotel at 8pm and it was locked up, reception area was gated. The sign had a number to call to contact the hotel with problems. We had no wifi so we went to the cafe across the street to ask to use their wifi. After trying multiple times to contact someone we gave up. We had a confirmed room and no way to get in. After a couple of hours I read a line at the bottom of my confirmation sheet which said I would get an email with an access code 48 hours prior to arrival. We had been traveling longer than that and I had no way of getting emails in another country. So them sending it was of no use. I had to text my husband in the states, have him get into my email and text me the access code. So after 2 hours of stress and looking for another hotel we were finally able to get into the hotel. The note with our key said our room was on the 2nd floor, it was on the 3rd, and no elevator. There was no one to help with info on parking, dining or the city. I was worried about the car all night. The next day' I was told that they weren't fully booked so they didn't staff the desk after 4. It was a very frustration experience. The room however was comfortable. Maxi the cat, however, was no where to be seen. I probably wouldn't stay there again, only because of the stress they put us through. But the room itself and the hotel was pleasant.

Lots of character excellent location.

What a treat! Wished it was Spring or early Fall or even Summer. The inside patio and gardens with a pond and koi is fabulous. Great breakfast. Very quiet. Has a lot of charm.

An interesting place to stay in the old “East Berlin”, the hotel reminiscent of that era. It had a beautiful garden, which we couldn’t enjoy due to wet cold weather. Note though, this hotel has no lift or laundry service, although on it’s site here it says it has both. We are an older couple and having a lift is important to us when travelling with luggage. Fortunately the staff assisted us. I however had a recent knee injury and found the stairs a bit of a challenge.

Nice garden, but there is no air conditioning in rooms.

The rooms are nice and so is the service, but if you have a room towards Invalidenstrasse you won't sleep without Xanax. Very noisy and it feels the tram runs through your bed....

This was definitely not at 4 star hotel. Coffee was TERRIBLE, along with breakfast that didn’t even have any food labels so you had no idea what you were eating, and it was a very low quality and unfairly priced. No refrigerator in room, room service or extra services for special occasions. Plus points were a good, central location, nice staff and cleanliness. Very quiet place but lacking atmosphere.

I really did not spend a lot of time at the hotel but when I was there, it was quick and clean. The location -- in Mitte -- is great.

Everything was wonderful. The location, The rooms and the breakfast was delicious. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Cute hotel. Staff provided me with an umbrella when it rained. But don't expect anything more than that. Cute clean and newly renovated room with old world feel.

Great location - easy walk from train and convenient to metro. Staff was super helpful and friendly. Breakfast was consistently excellent. I will book again!

Thought we had only booked a room but turned out to be a suite at the top of the building with living room, kitchen, double bedroom and bathroom - wonderful. Bedroom was at the back on the enclosed garden side so exceptionally quiet. Even at the front you couldn’t hear the road outside as there is double glazing. It was very quiet and we only saw one other guest briefly whilst there so thought it wasn’t busy - however on leaving the staff said it was fully booked! A testament to how quiet it was. We were on the fourth floor and there isn’t a lift due to the historic nature of the building, so could be an issue if you have any mobility difficulties. For cat lovers, Oscar the 18 year-old friendly cat was an added bonus and he came to visit us on the 4th floor the every evening whilst there! The U-Bahn is very close by and easy to get around from this location. The €7 day ticket is very worthwhile if jumping on and off transport. Also I highly recommend the Vietnamese restaurant Co Chu opposite but you may need to book as it’s usually full. Overall an excellent stay with great staff - will book again.

It was a bare minimum hotel. But it is in a nice area.

Stayed 3 nights on a business trip. Location is great, rooms are comfortable and service friendly and helpful. Only minor issue: at least in my room, WiFi was spotty

We came on Sept 3rd..but there was no AC. Our rooms were direct to the mainstreet where the noisy trams go through, and opening the window allowed all that noise.

Incredibly friendly staff! Lovely secluded garden where you could eat breakfast.

Wonderful garden courtyard for breakfast. Our room was large and very quiet, even though we were right in a busy section of Berlin. Bed was very comfortable and the room was spotless. Well positioned to many great shops, parks and restaurants and convenient to public transportation. Excellent breakfast. We would definitely return.
4.6
Staff very helpful and friendly. Older building so the rooms have more character. However, you don’t have some conveniences like lots of outlets, etc. Garden looks nice but weather was cold so we couldn’t take advantage of it. Good neighborhood with lots of cafés and restaurants. Right across from Nordbahnhof so lots of public transportation right there.

We stayed from 18th - 21st September 2017 and it was great!
The hotel is very well placed for transport - Nordbahnhof station is just over the road. From here very easy to get to all tourist sites.
Hotel staff are really great and friendly, their breakfast is the perfect way to start the day!
We had two great recommendations from the manager as to where best to eat, can't recommend the Alpenstueck highly enough.
The only reason I can't give this a 5/5 for everything is we stayed in a fantastic room (S5) but weren't told on booking that it was really top of the house, via a very steep set of stairs. Thats a very small point as the room was fantastic, more of an apartment really, I'd advise all to try and book it for their stay, but young children and the more mature traveller may find the last set of stairs a challenge. Finally hotel, staff and room was great, we will be back!

The 4-star items are probably 4.5s. We liked the hotel a lot. We spent two nights at the beginning of a Central European trip, and two nights at the end, at this hotel. It is very convenient to many of the attractions in Eastern Berlin, and an easy (1.2 km) walk from the Hauptbahnhof. The staff are pleasant and helpful, but there is nobody on duty from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m. There is no elevator, so this hotel would not be good for those who need wheelchair accessibility.
The rooms at front of building can be noisy, since it is right on Invalidenstrasse. The rooms are comfortable and well-appointed. There is a very friendly cat on the premises.

The stay was great overall. A minor hiccup at the checkin process (in my view) but nothing to stop someone from staying here.
The hotel is an oasis on what seems to be a commercial area/street...that is until you walk a few blocks East. The hotel itself and its garden is something to behold. Well thought out, really well decorated and Oscar the 15 year old cat ( some would say owner) is always there to ignore you and accept your petting.
Our room although on the city street side and not the garden side as requested, was very nice and the highest hotel ceilings I've ever seen. The room was always clean and well maintained. The only things that may bother people is that it is a "one liquid soap does all" situation so please bring your own shampoo/ conditioner or by them at the amazing DM store right beside the hotel. The other is that there is no phone in the room. If you are traveling with another couple please request to stay on the same floor at the very least as communicating woukd be a climb. Lucky for us, we were on the same floor.
We had their breakfast every morning and worth every penny.
