The hotel is stunning as you would expect. The staff friendly but concierge services are a little haphazard. The rooms are in good order and well maintained. Exactly what I would have expected from a four seasons.

The property is very beautiful and there are many things to do and the display of Art is lovely evidently curated by Edmund Rothschild or heirs....The hiking from the hotel is great and it is easily accessible as is golfing.

Four Seasons service is always wonderful. The room was slightly smaller than we had expected.

After an excellent stay in March 2018 shortly after the hotel opened (see 10/10 review below), we returned this year. While the rooms and facilities naturally remain impressive only 10 months on, it was like a different hotel in terms of service. No longer the superlative standards the Four Seasons brand is known for, with all requests fulfilled graciously, but instead a series of problems starting before we even arrived, with various concierge and reservation team members emailing at different times with duplicated questions ignoring information and requests we had already communicated. Then during the stay, there was a general tendency for the staff not to take responsibility for sorting out your problem themselves, but to try to pass it onto someone else when they felt it was outside their narrowly defined job description (e.g. reception staff refusing to make reservations which they viewed as the concierge’s job, even when the concierge was busy). Only the ski room staff were properly helpful, and they were the only people I recognized from last year. Everyone else though pleasant, seemed young and somewhat clueless- big question as to whether they are employees of Four Seasons themselves and subject to their training, or whether they are seasons workers for the Rothschild Group, taken from the general pool that services the group’s other (cheaper) hotels and restaurants in Megeve – not really acceptable given the huge price premium here.

Mar 2018
Having stayed in other Four Seasons ski hotels (Whistler, Jackson Hole, Vail) I was excited to try their first European ski hotel. I wasnt disappointed- the great service has been imported from N. America (e.g. the ski concierge puts your ski boots on for you) into a brand new construction with state-of-the-art fit-out, but mixed in with real local character (no doubt under the influence of long-standing local landowners, the Rothschilds, who also own the hotel). For example, at breakfast, French touches included the locally sourced cheeses, carefully labelled with name and producer, and the multiple types of traditional French bread, all made in-house. The ski service was impeccable, with the added bonus of a horse-drawn cart option to ferry you to the lifts. On the downside, the price of ski-in, ski-out in Megeve is that the hotel is not in the village centre, so if you want to go out for dinner, you have to drive or have the hotel drive you. In-hotel dining is restricted to Michelin-starred fine dining or Japanese-French fusion (both at high prices) so you have to venture out for traditional Savoyard ski holiday food like fondue/ raclette at one of the many good local restaurants (food is a strength of Megeve). Finally special mention to the hotel dog, Nemo, a very handsome and adorable Bernese Mountain dog who tolerated constant molestation by the hotel guests (especially the younger ones) with remarkably good grace. Overall a wonderful experience.
