A true treasure in the hills of Kona. An old style inn tucked away in wooded neighborhoods. Old but well renovated interiors and a wonderful lanai to sit watch the birds at the feeder and drink wonderful coffee. Just a short drive into town and the beaches but in the quiet hills.

We absolutely loved our stay here. From breakfast on the lanai to nights in the hot tub, this place has everything needed for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

This property is not a hotel you have no privacy you don’t have your own restroom you share the living room, the kitchen, the dining room, the restrooms with other people this place it’s very high on mole I’m allergic to Mole they are not reasonable conscience for the people that stay and don’t stay there they don’t respect your health wise Had trouble breathing because of the more conditions that they have it’s a home it’s not a hotel

This property has absolutely stunning grounds. Full of gorgeous plants and colorful birds. The only complaint I could possibly have is that it’s a bit warm. We had the cheapest room and it did not come with an air conditioner. (So maybe the other rooms do have A/C) It does cool down a bit at night (you’ll have to keep the windows open and the ceiling fan running) but the humidity and the swampiness just can’t be fixed without an A/C. Again though, this property was a great stay, fresh baked goods and fresh fruit in the lobby in the morning. Dave and Miriam are very sweet people and most importantly, we felt very, very safe here.

Wonderful B&B with great hosts! The Japanese teahouse room was lovely, the grounds were beautiful, & there was delicious Kona coffee available every morning, teas, & homemade goodies. If I'm ever in Kona again, would definitely stay there again!

So much natural beauty. The lack of a/c is an adjustment, but it never gets too hot here. Very nice owners and free local tea and coffee in the morning.

This is an oasis of tranquility in a sea of chaos - the parable of a ship finding shelter from a storm comes to mind. Great morning coffee and a cozy place to drink it. The Inn is centrally located, only a short drive to many landmarks and other points of interest. The hosts could not be more welcoming.

The hosts, David and Miriam were great. We felt welcome and at home. Charming property, very homey and beautiful surroundings. We would be delighted to stay there again when we are in Kona. Aloha and mahalo

Felt more like a bnb. If you don't like noise, don't get a room in the main building. Super nice folks. Great hottub.
4.0 / 10.0
The room was nice, and the bed was very comfortable. The parking is tight if you are driving a truck. There are bibles on all of the dining tables and in the rooms, there are non-Gospel bible quotes on the walls in the common areas, and there is Christian music playing in the common room at all times. You are expected to clean and put up all of your dishes, and you will have to make your own coffee before 7:30 am. The elevation is about 1,200 feet if you are planning on scuba diving.

This is a very special place. It feels like you are a part of the island in a way no commercial hotel could make you feel. Dave and Miriam are the best! They take good care of their guests and run a very nice country inn. If you are looking to stay in Kona , this is the BEST place to stay!!

In hindsight God obviously sent me to this enchanting place. It is run by Christians and is a wonderful location to meet the newest members of your Oikos. God is truly present on this property.

Nice property, beautiful setting, friendly owners, but over-priced for what it offers.

The bed was so hard, it got harder and harder to get up each day. Otherwise Dave was very friendly and there were a lot of nice amenities to this place.

Loved our stay. Very quiet and peaceful. The frogs at night were an added bonus, like a sleep machine, but better. Coffee was great. The kitchen was amazing and very clean. It was a balm to the soul, and the Christian undertones was a welcome bonus.

It was a quiet area, the owners are personable and takes care of issues asap and helpful. Beautiful setting outside and clean.

Stunning location and facility - super friendly proprietors. Only complaint? Abundant bibles, scripture verses and christian Muzak throughout could be unpleasant for the majority of travelers that do not like being preached to while on holiday.

My wife and I liked the feel of being in nature. Loved the sounds at night with the chirping Couqui frogs. Hot tub was great. Hosts were very nice and were genuine. Mature trees and flowers along with the raised levels made it interesting. I would recommend to any of my friends. Clean and cozy made it feel like home.

Coolest spot to stay on the big island. Room was clean, views were beautiful..like staying in the jungle! There is even a hot tub. Close to everything so it’s easy to come back for a midday lunch break if you need. Would definitely stay here again if we are back to the island.

Beautiful Country Inn. It’s a great vacation place to be. Dave and Miriam are so friendly and hospitable and they gave a lot good tips on traveling around the Island.

Such a beautiful, cozy, small spot hidden in the foothills of the Kona side of the big island. The owners are an absolute treat, the property is paradise, and the location is unbeatable. Minutes from anything you could want or need on that side of the island and within 2 hours of the Hilo side of the island. Highly recommend trying this place out. The “Maile” room was perfect for me and my wife on our fiancée! Very homey and comfy for our needs.

Rustic-chic. Every detail showed deliberate excellence. Christian hospitality. Really good recommendations on places to go. Lovely setting.

The property was beautiful, and the room was comfortable. I liked the personal service we received. The only downside was the chickens who woke us up before sunrise, but the website did warn of that, so we were prepared.
4.0 / 10.0
Despite being in a convenient location, I wouldn't recommend this place. There are dogs that howl and bark at night and early morning nearby and roosters that will wake you up before sunrise. The windows do not close fully. There are ear plugs near the bedside, but these do little to help.
The hot water is also very inconsistent. The first night the water was lukewarm at best. We stayed 4 nights and had varying levels of hot water.
This property is more like an Airbnb. I was charged a 'cleaning fee' without any notification. I needed to reach out to the host to figure out what the new fee was. No receipt, notice, or invoice shared with me.

The property looks exactly - if not better - than in the photos. Usually, we are looking for oceanside apartments, but this was a much better option. Especially, on the Big Island. It is still close to the beaches and downtown Kona, but the place is magical - lush vegetation, wooden cabins, great view. Your spouse or family will thank you for picking this place. Mine did.

A really great place to stay away from the crowds. But it’s also away from the beaches. No longer a B and B, so the breakfasts are minimal. Hosts are attentive and welcoming.

Hale Maluhia is Hawaiian meaning House of Peace. The name is very appropriate. It is a quiet and peaceful place run by Miriam and Dave. They are wonderful people.
2.0 / 10.0
This is a very unusual property. Essentially a large house with a number of out buildings that was built as an inn, it feels more like a family compound that was cobbled together.
The big drawing card is its proximity to Kona-Kailua. You can get to the main part of town in than 10 minutes. It is located above town where it is a bit wetter, so it has a lush feel.
Unfortunately, after that the negatives pile up:
* It is on a small winding road that is fairly busy. It’s location right in the middle of sharp curve means road noise comes from both above and below the property. Family and guest noise was prominent. Ear plugs offered on the bedside table were a troubling sign.
* Because it is in the wetter region, our room had a musty smell that left us congested after each night.
* THIS IS NOT A COVID-SAFE PROPERTY. Neither the owners nor guests observed any COVID precautions.
* This is a property that wears its religious convictions on its sleeve, with many bible sayings displayed prominently. Normally this would be a comfort, but in combination with the attitudes towards masking and the large American flag at the entry to property, there was no mistaking the attitudes of the owners. This is the first place we have ever felt uncomfortable because of the divisions in the US.
Between being uncomfortable physically and socially, this was without question our least favorite stay on the Island. We can not recommend it.

The hosts are wonderful people and are very helpful. The inn is on the mountainside and is tranquil.

Such a great stay in the Banyan Cottage. Spacious with a comfy bed. Hearing the coqui frogs was a great way to be welcomed to Hawaii! The tub was nice (it would have been nice to know that the hot and cold water were the opposite directions as accustomed to).
The property is lush and beautiful! The hosts are so very kind and accommodating.
The listing needs to inform the traveler that there is access to a full kitchen and that some of the windows don't close all the way.
The location is very convenient to touristy restaurants and shopping.
Overall, a great place for a couple, or a throuple, to stay. Mahalo!

The owners were very nice and helpful, and responded quickly to resolvable issues. The bed and bathroom were pretty clean. However, the property really needs a total update - carpet was very old and visibly dirty, and the room felt dusty in general. Because of the location, the room was always somewhat damp, with no AC or dehumidifier available, so the towels and swimming suits never dry and tend to stink; blinds don’t work and our privacy was kept by very thin curtains. You can hear every noise: loud frogs and crickets, roosters before 5am, and cars driving around three sides of the property. Parking is difficult as the property is on a small lot on a hairpin turn in a mountain road. The smoke alarm in the room went off twice for no reason while we were there, the owner had to replace it with a different unit. We didn’t use the shared kitchen so no comment on that. Overall it provided a bed and a bathroom in a safe area, but wasn’t ideal due to the reasons above.

Dave was simply amazing...he helped me with everything I needed. Couldn't hope for anything better!
The location is great and very convenient, 10 mins drive out from the center and really a house of peace!!
Literally the best solution I could ever dream of for my trip in Hawaii! Mahalo Dave!

Staff was polite and it was easy check in. Bed was hard, along with pillows. It was a busy road, so you could hear traffic. No AC, fan and open windows only. Hard to get into town because it’s too far to walk and there are not a lot of Ubers.

Dave went out of his way to make our stay comfortable. The setting is serene and rustic...how living on the Big Island would be if we lived here. It is close to Kona airport and hegreets all guests no matter what time they arrive. The large-leafed plants and pond add peace to the cabins. Top ratings for setting and service!

The tea house is beautiful and unique with a great bath tub. There is NO breakfast offered or is offered for additional fee. Breakfast is not included. The hot tub was nice. DIY laundry is $10. It is mostly quiet, but there were occasional disturbances in the nearby neighborhood house up the hill. I felt safe and parking was great! The location is wonderful.
