Great family location, we do not cater to a "spring break" crowd. Neighborhood consists of full time homeowners, apartments, hotels restaurants and convenience store and other vacation rentals. We provide beach gear, EV charger, AC, fire pit, outdoor shower. NO TV or WASHER/DRYER. SMALL DOGS OK.

Sitting in the garden with the chimes chiming was one of the highlights. Being able to walk to the beach for sunsets or day at the beach is wonderful.

I recently stayed at this lovely 1-bedroom beach property and had an amazing experience. The location is unbeatable—just blocks from the beach, and close to shops and restaurants. The cottage is charmingly decorated with a coastal theme, making it feel like a true getaway. The living area is comfortable, the kitchen is fully equipped, and the bedroom has a cozy bed for a great night's sleep. The outdoor patio is perfect for enjoying morning coffee with beach chairs and umbrellas provided for added convenience. The host was attentive and provided clear instructions, making my stay stress-free. Overall, this beach property is a perfect retreat for anyone looking to relax by the sea. Highly recommended!

Jim is a terrific host and the property is stocked very well with everything we needed in the kitchen and things for the beach. Love the private yard and so did our small dog. We enjoyed our stay and plan to go back next year.

In the few days we stayed at Jim’s place, we couldn’t stop talking about how much we loved it! It’s so close to the beach and a stones throw from the Main Street. The place itself is sooo quaint and beautifully decorated. We will definitely be staying here again upon our next visit to Carlsbad. We also got to meet Jim and chat for a bit which was great.

Location was perfect for walking to restaurants and the beach. The private patio was beautiful! Jim was very helpful. We were in town for a wedding and did not cook in but the kitchen had anything and everything you would need! I highly recommend!

This place is a hideaway paradise. Fully private and secure. Water features, fire pit and an outdoor shower with warm water!! I felt right at home here and was sad to leave. If I ever need a home away from home I would come back here.

We had a favorable experience at this property. It was very clean and cozy. The outside courtyard/patio was large with 2 fountains and a fire pit with lots of wood. Although we did not use the fire pit for our stay, we wood have if we were to stay longer. Just a very short walk to the Beach and good restaurants. We brought our electric bikes and found it very safe for riding. We would go back to this are and stay at this property again. It was a wonderful memorable stay.

Lovely little spot minutes from the beach and walking distance to everything in downtown Carlsbad. Space was very private, including a great private patio. Everything was clean and felt very secure, and James was a great host with very open communication. We've decided if we come back to the area we'd definitely seek this spot out again!

We were very pleased with this property! Jim was an awesome manager, friendly and responsive. The property itself was spacious, included everything we could ask for in a VRBO. Patio was big with 2 water features and firepit. Overall a delightful stay and only a block from the ocean!

Perfect no-frills rental, ideal for couple and pet. Clean with ample amenities, in a safe neighborhood just a short walk to the beach/town. Back patio is lovely with fire pit and working gas grill. Check in made easy.

Our stay at Jim’s cottage was wonderful, & we absolutely loved our stay! It’s outfitted with everything you need, and has the sweetest garden area that is private and all your own. We loved coming home to the sound of the water fountain in the garden, and the lights in the garden at night were so lovely. A full kitchen, plenty of towels, bed linens, and all the beach gear was so thoughtfully provided. The cottage has a nice peaceful vibe and is so pleasant to hang out in, very quiet at night, too. We slept so well! It’s perfectly located a short walking distance to the beach & everything in town. What makes this place so special is Jim, a kind, friendly & gracious host that truly wants his guests to enjoy their stay, and has put alot of love into creating a comfortable & unique place for you to have as your home base in Carlsbad. We can’t wait to return, thanks so much Jim!

My friends and I wanted to spend a relaxing weekend by the beach when we found this nice little spot. The property was really well maintained with the front yard being perfect spot for a nice little fire. The property owner Jim was super inviting and easy to talk to. When we first arrived we could figure out the lock so we messaged him and he was there in minutes to help us out then showed us around the property. Over it was a 10/10 I would definitely stay there again

My daughter (18 yo) & I spent a wonderful long weekend at the Surf Shack! The kitchen is very well stocked with cookware. The bathroom has towels, and soap/shampoo/conditioner. We didn’t get to use the surfboard, but there is one! Hopefully next time! Highly recommend this place!

Lovely location. Relaxing patio with fountains masks any street or train noise. Walkable to beach, coffee, restaurants. Place was very clean, bright and, while a studio- has curtains to provide some privacy too. Had one issue with hot water but still a 5 star stay (Jim addressed it). Dog and kid loved it too.

We loved our stay at Jims cottage, 5 stars is just not enough. The location was exactly what we wanted, we walked to the beach several times during our stay. The cottage and patio were very clean and extremely comfortable. Everything we could have possibly needed was available on site. We have family in the area and visit a couple of times a year. We plan to book with Jim at this location every time from here on. Thank you Jim for making our visit Absolutely Perfect!

When we first walked into the outside patio area from the driveway, it felt like our own little resort. Fire pit, outside shower, chairs & table, all surrounded by lush greenery. The inside was small but comfortable. No T. V., but we did not go there for T.V. The kitchen was very nice with coffee maker(no filters), coffee, tea, microwave, refrigerator, hot water pot, gas stove, and small raised dinette table. Our host, who lives adjacent to the property, was very friendly. He met us when we arrived, explained everything we needed to know, and basically left us alone. Easy walk to numerous restaurants and stores and two to three blocks to the beach. Wonderful time. Would recommend!

My husband and I stayed here for an anniversary weekend and it was absolutely adorable. The location is perfectly located within walking distance of downtown shops and restaurants as well as the beach, and the outdoor yard area is very serene. Would love to stay again next time we're in Carlsbad.

We had an absolutely wonderful time in Carlsbad. The cottage was very clean, beautifully decorated, and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The courtyard was a fantastic place to relax in the mornings and evenings. And the heated outdoor shower was a family favorite when returning from the beach. We will definitely be returning to stay again.

Everything was seamless and exceeded expectations (parking, serene outdoor space, mini-split cooling, spacious kitchen). This place was well equipped and perfect for our weekend plans. Loved that we could reach everything on foot and could easily snag an Uber when we had more distant plans. Absolutely would stay here again if I had the opportunity. Thank you!

This house is extremely clean with a super host. Location was perfect for our needs. Description is accurate that 3rd person is on a pull-out bed in the living room. Probably my fault that I thought the ad photo meant that the ocean was within sight. It is just an outside mural installed near the door. Description accurately says a 2 block walk to the beach. Rear yard artfully made private & decorative with fountains, table & chairs, etc. Host is very responsive to needs & questions. Gives great advice on area restaurants & anything else you'd need to know. Felt safe.

First, communication with the owner(Jim) was excellent well before we left for our trip. He answered all my questions and was flexible with the dates when I had to delay our trip for a couple of days. The property was comfortable and the yard is amazing. I loved the secure, gated driveway and large yard with outdoor dining area and fire pit that was already set up for a fire. The house is a very short walk to the beach and the town's many restaurants but was private and tranquil.

My son, my Mom and I needed a little beach time. This place was perfect. You are 2 blocks from the beach and the place has eveything you need- wagon, chairs, umbrella. You can also walk to State street and all the restuarants too. There is a super cute little patio with privacy, fountains and a fire pit. The host is really communicative, helpful and flexible.

This property is just as pictured. It was just a short walk to the beach and the village. It was quiet, clean and very comfortable. Jim was extremely attentive and kind. There was nothing we needed for the beach other than bathing suits and suntan lotion. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the courtyard in the early mornings and late evenings. We had the best weather and the best time. We already made a reservation for next year! Thanks Jim!

This clean, well-appointed, cozy space is perfect for a single or a couple. It would be manageable with an infant sleeping in a pack ‘n play but not suitable for a toddler. The bedroom is not separate from the living area, so the place is more like a studio than a one BR. Jim, the owner, was extremely cordial and helpful but not the least bit intrusive even though he was close by and available for assistance. He was a great communicator before and during my stay. As an older solo traveler, I felt very safe here. The cottage is within easy walking distance to one of the best beaches in Carlsbad and to the village. The AC was much appreciated. The best aspect is the relaxing outdoor space with its soothing fountains. In addition, as a medical cannabis patient, I appreciated the ability to medicate privately outside near the fire pit instead of roaming the streets looking for an appropriate place to not disturb others.

We book this stay as our second leg of our california holiday. Jim was in contact with us from the start and showed us around when arrived and even left us a lovely welcome gift. Very helpful and pointed out areas to go. The house just as described clean and enough space for the three of us. The pull out bed was wasy to us and handy for my 8 yeat old. Had a lovely quite outside area and close to the beach. We loved our stay.

The photos don’t show how cute this place is! The private patio was great for hosting friends and relaxing with a cup of coffee in the morning. The bed was comfortable and we loved that there was A/C for the afternoons and evening. The place was stocked with things we needed including extra towels, bedding, and many kitchen supplies. On site, gated parking was nice to have. We will be back!

This was the perfect spot for a mother/daughter beach getaway! Close to everything-- It's an easy walk to the beach and shops, just like the other reviewers said-- but the best part was the actual cottage itself! The photos don't really do it justice--the layout and design are so well done-- it's like the perfect little beach house / surf shack / tropical oasis-- truly a hidden gem! The fountains, fire pit, twinkle lights, outdoor shower, and murals at this property would make you feel like you're on vacation even if you weren't just 2 blocks from the beach! Jim is an amazing host-- excellent communication and thoughtful gestures throughout that show he really values his guests! Thank you so much! Hope to be back soon!
