The Black Bull is a lovely hotel with amazing food. We had a tomahawk steak between two that was hands down the best steak I’ve ever had in the UK (I love in the US where good steak is plentiful, but hard to find in UK restaurants). The service in the restaurant was very good.
The car park has a very tight entrance alley off a very narrow street (Main Street) and is a challenge to turn into for a large car (we had an SUV).
The hotel is dog friendly but not very disabled friendly. Lots of small flights of stairs with no railings, no lift/elevator, and no grab bars or anti slip surfaces in the walk in shower that was in my 84 year old, mobility challenged mother’s room.
Regarding comfort, the cleaning staff turn the heat down and open all the windows during the day while they clean, including in the rooms, and the heating turns back on at 5:30. We returned back to cold rooms both days we were there because the heating comes on at 5:30. When this was commented on to the head cleaner (i.e. my mother had to get under the covers fully clothed to get warm in her room) he was quite rude and argumentative about it, which is a black mark on the hotel for service in my opinion.
Note that the town of Sebergh is closed on Sundays except for the wonderful Fairfield Mill, a must visit for the history, artists goods for sale and the good food in the cafe (awesome cheese scones!). Nearby Dent is picturesque and the tiny Stone Close Cafe there is highly recommended!

Plushest hotel in the small village of Sedbergh. Rooms have been recently refurbed to the highest quality. Could do with Nespresso machines rather than a cafetière to make life easier. Entry to parking is a test to driving skills. Beware, especially if you drive a 4x4

Greatly located, fantastic food and breakfast. Very clean and tidy room

Entrance to hotel car park very restrictive and would be good to know about that before you arrive. Dog charge expensive compared to most (£25).
Dinner menu innovative but may not suite all
Breakfast selection bit disappointing.
All in all would stay again

Couldn't fault anything about the hotel, from the room to the food, everything top quality

Wonderful 2 night stay in the Black Bull. We stayed in Room 1, which was large, had the comfiest bed and bath plus a large shower. It is at the front of the building, but we didn't find noise a problem
What makes it special is the most delicious food cooked by Nina Matsunaga - worth going out of your way for. Nothing is rushed, service efficient, and friendly
It was a very special stay, in a lovely little town surrounded by glorious countryside. I wish this was on my doorstep!

Lovely hotel with great food options...outside bar and pizza oven and inside beautiful restaurant and bar. Good breakfast and room very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Would recommend.
Only downside was check in is posted as 3pm and its actually 4pm.

Rooms were nice, parking was a challenge - turn up narrow alley really tight, service at breakfast was poor, long wait for drinks, had children so asked for toast first before cooked food but brought it all out together after another long wait, had to ask for sugar they didn't offer, asked for water but didn't receive, no one asked if we would like any more drinks or even if we were OK with everything, poor service for the type of hotel they are hoping to become

Character Inn. Rooms excellent, staff very friendly and helpful. Food is excellent, wine list is very good with some unusual choices. The only negative were Staff were a little occupied by the IT system, whether it is new, or they are just getting up to speed having just reopened, impossible to say but, it did not spoil the stay.

This is a beautifully overhauled period inn. Rooms and bathrooms very well done. Dinner menu was interesting and varied and the cooking was excellent. Breakfast was good too.The staff were friendly and helpful. The surrounding area was very attractive.

We had to wait a short while for someone to check us in when we arrived, there only seemed one person who could do that. We ate in the hotel at night but the bar service was extremely slow. The food was nice but portion sizes for the venison and duck were too small. Breakfast was ok apart from the toast, it was a sliced granary cob, which was overdone and far to hard to cut and bite. Overall a comfortable stay if a little overpriced.

Second stay for us here and as with the first it was brilliant, the food is great, the room was perfect, and the staff friendly. 4.9/5 (see below)Only issue I have, is the same as the previous stay, the accomodation side of the business feels slightly second rate, in that when you want to check in/out there is always a reasonable length wait for someone to see you (both times weve had to go hunting for someone at the bar, for them to find someone else to see to us)

Great location and lovely bedroom suite. Shame the shower didn't work each time I used it! Great for food - not too many choices on the menu, makes it easier to pick a dish. Lovely selection of wines too. Staff are fabulous and would return because of them.

Staff were good. Had lots of problems with water not coming through sink/shower.

We stayed in The Calf room which was absolutely super. You must have a bath! Staff can't do enough to make your stay memorable. Great wine selection. Did not have lunch or dinner but large choice for breakfast. Main Street full of interesting shops. Artisans Market on a Saturday a bonus.

We liked the rooms and feeling of the place.
Service was slow esp. 40 min wait for breakfast and running out of some food items should simply never happen. Also more coat hangers in the room. Need to be more proactive not reactive....

We were in room 18 and there was a door down the stairs next to are bedroom door. Which the bed is next to that door. It is very noisy in the morning we were woken up quiet early and then the door was going none stop. Other than that we had an amazing stay the room was lovely and spotlessly clean. Food was fantastic. Staff all very attentive, but know how to let people relax and not to fussy and annoying when your trying to enjoy a meal. Overall a great place to stay.

This is a nice hotel which has been recently refitted. Unfortunately there was no-one on reception when we arrived but we weren't long before we could check in. Our room was upgraded and we also received a bottle of prosecco (we were there for a birthday). The room was nice but being on the first floor just above reception desk and close to the stairs it was a little a bit noisy. We ate at the hotel and the quality was very good - there were just a few little things that could improve the service ie the wine was poured with out us being asked whether we wanted to taste it, and there were things about the menu that the waiter should have known without having to ask the kitchen. The cooked breakfast was excellent. Overall a very enjoyable stay.
