About this apartment rental
A fully renovated 3 bedroom apartment in an old farmhouse in the ski resort of Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise, Chalet de l'Ours is spread over 2 floors and also benefits from a mezzanine area off the main living/dining area.
Rates are negotiable for stays of 4+ weeks, especially outside the peak weeks of Xmas, New Year and the school holidays. We can also offer a Friday check-in and Sunday check-out for the price of a standard week during these periods. Contact us for details as it is not always possible to reflect longer term offers.
At 115sqm Chalet de l'Ours is considerably larger than most 3 bedroom apartments. The spacious living and dining areas will comfortably accommodate 8 people and benefit from stunning mountain views whilst the mezzanine offers an extra space for relaxation or for the children to play.
The living area has 2 large, extremely comfortable Chesterfield sofas, a matching club chair, west-facing balcony, log fire and a large smart TV. There is also a mezzanine area with a Chesterfield sofa-bed and expansive views to the north. Large windows facing north also offer fantastic, uninterrupted mountain views. These windows and the balcony offer a huge amount of natural light.
The main bedroom offers en-suite facilities and also benefits from a west-facing balcony. There is ample room for a cot should that be necessary. The second and third bedrooms have uninterrupted mountain views to the north whilst all 3 bedrooms have extremely comfortable double beds and hand-crafted, made-to-measure storage built in. The 3rd bedroom can be offered as a twin rather than a double.
Both the en-suite and family bathrooms offer bath, shower and wc facilities and have large, well lit mirrors over the sink and there is a 3rd wc. The large boilers will support two people running a bath simultaneously.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a butler sink, 110cm range-style cooker featuring a double oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and a Nespresso coffee maker.
Outside the ski season:
Chalet de l’Ours offers great walking, hiking and mountain biking opportunities direct from the front door.
During the summer holidays the resort's Grand Plan lift opens for foot passengers and mountain bikers.
Sainte Foy is a great resort for children. The village is small and very safe and there is a lot of outdoor space for them to run around. The apartment has plenty of space for baby items such as push chairs and cots. However, if you have toddlers please be aware that we have 2 open staircases and none of the drawers or cupboards are currently child-proofed.
We also have a second property - Chalet Susie (VRBO p8153984) - directly below Chalet de l'Ours that can sleep 2 additional guests.
The area
The wider Haute Tarentaise and Savoie area has a rich and varied history having been ruled at various times by both Italy and France. The resort itself shares a 25km border Italy and several historic fortifications are within an easy drive. These include the Fort de la Platte, Fort du Truc and Fort de la Redoute Ruinee.
There are several nature reserves in the area with the Réserve Naturelle des Hauts de Villaroger being a 15 minute drive away. Please be aware that this area serves as a refuge of the Tetras-Lyre and can only be accessed with an approved guide.
The apartment contains several maps and books detailing local walks for all levels of fitness. The walk to the hamlet of Le Monal is easily achievable whilst the return hike to Lac Noir is likely to take most of the day but is well worth the effort. May and June are particularly colourful months as the meadow flowers are in full bloom.
The Winter season:
We operate a Sunday changeover for most of the Winter season. This offers clients the dual benefits of travelling to and from the resort when the roads are quiet (the main changeover day in the wider area is Saturday and traffic can be extremely heavy, especially during the peak weeks) and being able to enjoy a Saturday on the slopes as the final day of their holiday (as most people are either leaving or arriving on a Saturday the slopes are generally very quiet on a Saturday).

Beautifully renovated in a traditional style. Quiet location. Great views. Fantastic access to the slopes.

Four of us stayed in this beautifully charming property and we had a wonderful time.
It is conveniently located a three-minute walk from the slopes or a twenty-minute drive to Val d'Isere. The surroundings are as picturesque as the photos depict.
There were enough shops and ski hire equipment located nearby and the supermarket is a short drive away also.
The owner was incredibly helpful and there were detailed instructions sent beforehand so we knew what we should bring and what to expect.
This was, without a doubt, the best place I have ever stayed and I could not recommend nicer people to deal with. We would definitely book our stay again.

We had a fabulous stay. Booking was easy, communication was very good, and the arrival instructions were very clear. There is plenty of room, it is very well appointed, it has everything you need, from hairdryer, to glove dryers. We immediately felt at home. The residence enjoys lovely views down the valley and is close to the town where you will find a small selection of bars, restaurants, ski hire shops, and supermarket. Everything is within walking distance. The small bus service collects from the door, which takes you the short ride where you can access the lift station. We loved this place and will be coming back for sure, hence not wanting to shout out too much as we don't it to get too busy!

Very quiet location right on the edge of the resort, but access to the slopes offers all the convenience of a genuine ski-out location - an important consideration for us parent types. We even skied to the front door a couple of times via a short bit of off-piste. For the more adventurous you can apparently ski to the front door from the base of the Marquise lift too. The living/dining area is much larger than the norm and the views are fantastic. Kitchen has everything you could need and more. Owner communication was fast and helpful. Would definitely recommend.

We have stayed in Chalet de L'Ours a few times - we keep returning as it has everything we need for a perfect ski break. Location wise its got fabulous views of the Alps and being at the quieter side of the resort its only a 10 seconds (yep seconds!) walk to a regular mini bus facility that takes a minute up to the ski lift / equipment shop area. On the way back there is handy red run which takes you back near enough to the front door (snow permitting of course!). The bus driver will recognise and stop even if you start walking which is fab.
The property itself is tastefully furnished and decorated to a high standard. Enough room for couples and families alike - everything you need for a self catering set is available. Its clean and warm. What's not to like here...the owners are friendly and respond to any requests quickly. Will be returning...

Stayed at Chalet de l'Ours for a week to walk the hills and enjoy the quiet and colours of autumn. The chalet is well laid out, full of rustic charm but with all modern comforts and conveniences. Excellent views from the chalet. Well-equipped, very clean and cosy, would happily come again.

Very nicely laid out and decorated - clean, comfortable and with great views. Just a couple of minutes walk from the main village - with a very regular shuttle bus to the slopes if you are carrying skis as the walk is uphill. Our friends were leaving at quarter to nine for a lesson that started at ten to nine every day and were never late. (They claim!)
Lovely 'roaring log fire' and rustic style make this chalet very atmospheric and pleasant in the evenings.
Highly recommended.

Lovely, spacious and homely chalet. Comfortable and well equipped with everything you would require. 2 mins on a regular shuttle bus from the door to the slopes. Resort is great with no queueing for lifts and well groomed runs.
Definitely would like to stay again.

All descriptions were 100% accurate and the Owner was really helpful re: directions, layout of Chalet, location, facilities of Chalet, skiing and activities for non-skiers. It was very clean and tidy and well maintained. We would definitely recommend this Chalet to friends and relatives. Ski bus was literally just outside the Chalet. The village, 5 minute walk, had a ski hire, grocer and several restaurants - all of which were very good and very friendly. As it is a Sunday changeover plan ahead as the supermarkets and many other shops were not open., but it did mean there were no hold-ups on the roads. We used our snow chains many times. We drove just 15 minutes to Tignes one day to try to get above the cloud. Having being skiing in the Alps for 30 years we do hope to come back here!

We stayed at chalet de l'Ours during the first week of the summer holidays. The accomodation is beautifully decorated with top notch furnishings, fully equipped for a large family to self cater in luxury, the large kitchen area provided glasses, large cooking pots, huge electric range cooker and nespresso coffee machine. The beds are the most comfortable i have experienced on any holiday and all bedrooms had plenty of storage and extra pillows. Extra sleeping room with games, books and local tourist information upstairs on a mezzanine. Bathroom and toilet facilities spotless with plenty of hot water. As well as providing amazing scenic views with local amenities close by the holiday resort we found plenty of lovely places to visit only short drives away. We would definately recommend this accommodation to anyone wanting a luxury get away in the mountains. Would love to see the mountains in winter too so might have to check out a ski season.

Our second visit to CDL this season.....great chalet, very well appointed.
Very smooth booking and check in process.
The shuttle bus that takes you to the slopes really is very few minutes, we never waited.
Black Diamond Lodge for Apres Beers is good, esp Mon, Weds, Fri with live music.

The perfect summer get away from the desert heat. A young family out of the UAE, we were able to stay at Chalet de l'Ours with the granparents driving across from the UK to meet us for the week. The chalet is very well equiped and ideal for the six of us enabling a relaxing week with plenty of family outdoors time. Clean with all essential modern conveniences we could choose between time inside, walks in the surrounding forrest and ski runs or a short trip to the local sights in and around the valley. The arrival and departure were very easy and very informative, allowing us to make the most of the stay as well as the trip back to Geneva. There was a supermarket and enough facilities close by to be self sufficient. Nothing negative to report. We'll certainly come back for another summer break.

To say we had a fantastic time here would be an understatement!. The property is beautifully decorated with everything you'd ever need for your stay. A lovely quiet spot too for lovely sleeps. The views are amazing, what a way to wake up!. If you enjoy the great outdoors, what's lovely is, you can go for the most beautiful walk straight from the door, no car required!. All sign-posted, collecting supplies from the local shop en route. There's plenty to do in the surrounding areas, we tried white water rafting, down hill mountain biking, swimming in Aime amongst other things!. Who says all you can do is ski in this region, there's stacks to do in the summer too. We'd love to return one day!
