About this house rental
Blue Crab
With its soft, turquoise color and beachy vibe, Blue Crab begins to welcome you to the Gulf Coast the moment you drive (or boat) up. This cheerful riverfront vacation home can sleep up to 10 guests and includes a separate studio apartment on the ground floor. This layout is perfect for two families or separate couples vacationing together in the paradise we call Perdido Key.
Outside Living
It’s all about the water here in Perdido Key, and Blue Crab takes advantage of its waterfront proximity to Old River. There are multiple decks and balconies located on both sides of this home, all outfitted with new outdoor seating (replaced in 2020) for access to the cool, river breeze from all levels of this three-story home. Bedroom decks offer views into the leafy green trees, gulf beach or the river in the back. The large, riverside deck and ground floor patio both have plenty of room for gathering the entire family together for eating, playing, or just watching the dolphins search for their next meal.
This cute waterfront home has access to a circular, wooden boardwalk that extends out into the river. It would be the perfect place to set a chair up and watch the boats, birds and the rest of the world float by. Leave your cell phone behind!
The shared, side-dock includes a boat lift for a boat with maximum dimensions of 26 feet long, 10 foot beam and 10,000 lbs. There’s also great fishing to be had right off of the private pier, just a few steps from your rental. The owner has been kind enough to provide a few kayaks for your use- so get out there on the water! There are waterways to be explored and fish to catch.
There’s a beach volleyball court set up in the side yard, ready for a few friendly, family competitions. Not into volleyball? Use that net for a paddle ball or badminton games. The soft, white sand is perfect for tossing a frisbee or football (no worries about hitting unsuspecting sunbathers), setting up a bocce ball court, corn hole game, yoga or sandcastle building.
You and your guests will end up spending most of your time out on the patio, decks and balconies watching the boats and the glorious sunsets. If you’ve been lucky enough to catch your limit, clean them up and grill out on the main deck’s big Weber gas grill. Besides comfortable seating, there’s a dining table and chairs ready for your next outdoor meal. The hot tub (replaced in 2019) is there to soak away the remaining stress and ease those sore muscles. A private saltwater pool was also added in 2022 and can be heated during the cooler months (additional fees apply).
**Saltwater Pool heating is a seasonal amenity. Not available from Memorial Day to Labor Day.**Additional Fees Apply)
Inside Amenities
Bright white walls, rich warm wood floors and beach accents will have the stress levels easing in no time. The entire wall in the living room is glass, letting in natural light and that glorious, riverfront view. There’s a wood-burning fireplace if things cool down and ceiling fans and AC when things heat up.
Comfortable seating (replaced in 2020) in the living room will welcome you and your tired guests after a long day of fishing, swimming and having fun. With 4 bedrooms and 3 baths, this unit can accommodate up to 10 guests- plenty of room for a large family getaway with room to spare! The dining area seats 6 at the table with 3 additional seats at the kitchen counter/bar. The open floor plan lets you enjoy the stunning river view from your fully equipped kitchen while preparing your catch-of-the-day or snacks for game night. The main bedroom and bath are on this level and share the river view. There are two more bedrooms on the upper floor with a shared bath and each of these bedrooms have their own balcony.
Blue Crab also has a studio apartment located on the ground floor with its own private entrance, perfect for a multi-generational family or several couples. The studio apartment features its own fully equipped kitchen, dining table, bathroom and separate washer and dryer. What could be more convenient? The studio apartment opens onto the partially covered patio and more of that lovely river view.

Perdido Key
Perdido Key is a beautiful, narrow strip of paradise on Florida’s Gulf Coast. It’s just minutes away from Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, but less crowded. Known for sugary, white sand and beautiful, emerald waters, you can enjoy all of your favorite watersports here- fishing, swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, parasailing and more! There are several historic forts like Fort McRee, Fort Barrancas and Fort Pickens to explore. If you enjoy hiking and biking, Big Lagoon State Park and Perdido Key State Park are great places to experience the beautiful outdoors.
If you don’t feel like cooking (who can blame you- you’re on vacation) Cobalt’s, Fisherman’s Corner, The Original Point Restaurant, The Gulf, Lillian’s Pizza are all worth a try! No visit to the Gulf Coast would be complete without a trip to the world-famous Flora-Bama Lounge or Flora-Bama Yacht Club (Yacht Club is kid-friendly) to enjoy their famous Bushwackers, oysters and live music! Hub Stacey’s also has live music. There is something for the whole family in Perdido Key!

We had a great stay. We stayed with younger children so the sand on the bay side was great for them rather than walking to the beach. It is a little bit of a walk with kids but with wagons it wasn’t bad at all. Everything with the house was perfect and we had a great time.

Thank you so much for the beautiful stay at Blue Crab. We had a wonderful time!
The hot tub was great to jump into after a day of exploring ( just an fyi only half the jets work in the tub). If there was any complaints it would only be that I wish the bbq had propane supplied as filling a tank in order to bbq for one night seems a little unfair

Absolutely great location and beautiful views. Right on the water with easy access to fishing. Several canoes available for use, volleyball court in side yard, tennis and basketball court across road all within walking distance. Heated pool and awesome hot tub. Lots of room for family of 5. Nice apartment downstairs with separate entry. Easy access to beach across road but it’s quite a walk. Beach is beautiful here and untouched being in state park there aren’t many people around. It is IMPORTANT to bring essentials with you if you are staying more than a day. When we arrived there was only one trash bag, one roll of paper towels and tissue per bathroom.

To preface, I'll say that in general, I book through Vrbo because we want a unique, high quality experience with more flexibility, space, etc. than what a hotel would offer.
We've stayed in several in the past year, and have had many wonderful experiences (and a lot to compare to).
So, first the good:
- It's got a beautiful backyard view with a hot tub, pool, several decks, etc.
- It's a short walk across the street to Perdido Beach.
- The house has plenty of space for several people to stay.
- Pet friendly.
Then, the frustrating stuff:
- Many of the dishes were dirty, and had been put away either dirty, or ran once through the dishwasher without being checked.
- The couch in the living room had several stains on it.
- The foldout bed in that same couch had an old, yellowed mattress that looked long past its service life
- The lock on the downstairs suite was very loose/worn
- We found clumps of hair floating in the hot tub.
They contacted us on the second day to see if we needed anything. I didn't bring up the bad stuff, but just requested a few additional toilet paper rolls, and a few extra towels. (They didn't include a single extra roll of toilet paper in the house.)
At that point, they basically said "Sorry, those are your responsibility."
If they had simply said "Sure, no problem" in that moment, we were prepared to overlook the rest of the issues. But for the several thousand dollars we paid, the pushback on a simple request for supplies was too much. Not good.

Pictures and description of this property are accurate. We watched the sunrise from the beach and set from the balcony. This is a lovely property.

Great views and great location however listing stated queen size beds and instead it has full size beds. Listing needs to be updated for accuracy.

Everything was great. We had a fabulous family vacation. The house was exactly as stated in the description and very clean. The only thing I would suggest would be the bed in the lower level should be a king since there is room for it and it wasn’t very comfortable. Other than that, it was perfect!!

Our large family had such a wonderful and incredible vacation at this property. Not only was it close to the beach, but when the beach was closed down, there were still tons of stuff to do such as kayak/canoe and fishing or playing in the pool/hot tub. The view in the evenings is so lovely and spectacular. We even called the property to see if we could stay a couple extra night. I highly recommend this property! We will absolutely be going back.!

Each year we stay in this area for our family vacation. This year we brought our entire family and a few additional teens. The private pool is everything we didn't know we were missing. The bay is very peaceful and this property offers spectacular views. The neighboring properties are very nice and the owners next door were great as well. The walk to the beach was a little further than I expected but it wasn't bad at all with a wagon in tow. The house itself easily housed our group of 8. There were tons of additional items offered in the house that made our stay better from the kayaks, tennis rackets, beach items, etc.. An added bonus was the option to bring our Frenchie. It allowed us to fully enjoy our stay without having to board her. We will 100% book this property for our future vacations!

We had a wonderful time! It was very clean and spacious! The view is beautiful and there is a public beach right across the road we walked to. Thank you.

House was very nice, great location and plenty of room for 5 adults. Access to water was also very good and the hot tub was an added benefit for our old bones.

We had such a good time at this vacation home! We have never been down to Florida and had so much fun! Kids really enjoyed the pool and we enjoyed the hot tub! The set up of this vacation home was perfect for our family of 5. We didn't need the lower level but was still great! Very quiet neighborhood...perfect walking distance to the beach! Overall a great place to stay!

What a nice place. Plenty of room to stretch out and all the amenities we could have asked for. Great location on the water with fishing dock and sand on the back bay and a short walk to the beach. Will definately return! It did not hurt that the weather was outstanding as well.
