About this cottage rental
Stanley House is in the heart of the famous Cornish fishing village of Port Isaac. It was once a corn chandlers & for many years after it was a bakery. It was recently used in the final series of Doc Martin as the nail bar! The harbour & beach are a few seconds’ walk down Fore Street. There are a number of family-friendly pubs & restaurants in Port Isaac & neighbouring Port Gaverne, all within walking distance. Port Isaac is on the north coast & only a short drive to Polzeath, Daymer Bay, Rock & Padstow.

The property was very clean and well furnished, with comfortable beds. The bathroom is well appointed, and comes with lovely, fluffy soft white towels. We received a welcome kit with tea, coffee, and biscuits, and found scones, jam, and clotted cream in the refrigerator.
The Stanley House met our needs and was as described (the only discrepancy we found was that there was no clothes dryer--I even read the manual for the washer online to see if it was a combo washer/dryer). But that is a minor issue.
We were right across the street from The Golden Lion Inn, where we were lucky enough to hear sea shanties on our first night. Also we were only 2 houses down from Nathan Outlaw's Fish Kitchen (fabulous) and The Mote (wonderful) and the Platt, the harbor. Right next door there are wonderful traditional Cornish pasties and yummy sandwiches at Nicky B's. We also had a lovely breakfast at the top of Fore Street at the Cornish Cove. Walking up and down the village each day did great things for our cardiovascular health!
I would caution Americans that the roads in Port Isaac are very narrow, and I would recommend just packing a small jump bag to carry down to (and back up from) the house rather than thinking that you can park in front and unload a lot of luggage.
I'd also warn people to be cautious using GPS to approach Port Isaac. Map to the New Road, or you'll find yourself on the very precarious (for the driver) but beautiful (for the passengers) road through Port Gaverne

We chose this property because of the description of facilities, which turned out to be incorrect. It listed two beds in each of the main bedrooms and one full and one half bath. Because we were travelling with a person with a disability, it was important that this person have access to his own toilet and own bed, with his wife in the next bed. Instead she had to sleep in another room on another floor, looking after him during the night was incredibly difficult and exhausting. The rooms were not particularly clean, bits of rubbish under beds etc. Very disappointing.

Clean and well presented accommodation right in the heart of Port Isaac - Deli pasty & coffee shops all within minutes walk together with restaurants bars & the seafood shop with freshly caught & prepared lobster & crab at a fraction of the cost of some of the establishments.

You could not be in a better location than Stanley House. It is convenient to everything Port Isaac! Our host was so accommodating and everything went perfectly smooth. I can’t wait to come back to our Cornish home away from home.
